Not only it looks awful but this assault rifle is cursed.

It's quite literally one of German Korobov's designs. But I do agree the art style, while competent, is rather unappealing.

4 DLCs already announced, each w/ 4 cases... will be 6 dollars a piece or 18 for the season pass and sountrack. also there will be a bundle on steam for those that already own the first game to get everything cheaper

Feels a bit scummy to do it like that. Although I guess you can get away with it when you don't have a lot of competition.

How is saying dlc expansions are on the way scummy? Do you just want them to release them suddenly with no warning nor marketting? Did you hate the dlc expansions for the previous game and are just objecting to them making more?

it's announcing that they're going to milk this game (or flog a dead horse rather, since the gameplay is exactly the same) instead of working on something new
their fucko DLCs are priced the same as base game
honestly disgusting

Milk it for all it's worth by making two more dlc expansions for it than their previously horribly milked first installment?

did maxie get filtered by the first game or something? the DLCs are the same price as they were for the first game, except this time they let you get a pass which is cheaper than buying each dlc separately and he's seething.

announcing a DLC plan on day one is a crude, boorish affair that does even not warrant criticism. you avoid such games, especially as it's a rehash of the same in a different time period. smarten the fuck up.

The previous DLCs are awesome and while they still relate to the main game's story, they dont feel like they were cut from the main game, instead just an excellent addition that add context to the base game

I bought it and am going through it now. So far it seems like more Golden Idol goodness, which is great, but I really don't like the changes they made to the UI. Sure, it makes the screen less cluttered, but actually playing the game feels clunkier than before - and that's despite the fact that they streamlined the way the players acquire words (which I also dislike, by the way - the fact that we had to pay attention to things and click on the words made the process of interacting with clues more immersive).

Also, I preferred the rougher aesthetic of the original - the art feels a bit smoother and cleaner now, even though it is still instantly recognizable. I wish they'd stuck to the art style from The Spider of Lanka, which was the most interesting Golden Idol has ever looked, as far as I am concerned.

But all of that is unlikely to matter if the mysteries are still good. Here's hoping.

I agree with the 'collecting all words' by clicking thing, I wish there was an option for the old style. The UI is weird at first but I've gotten to like it a little more after getting familiar with using it and it has its advantages over the old system. I am indifferent to the differing art style, I chalk it up to it being set in contemporary times while the previous game was centuries old, I prefer some aspects of the original art style but the new one doesn't bother me... What I am enjoying is how the game is set up as a Chapter that contains different investigations that are their own little thing but also connected to the others, and then having an overarching story for the entire chapter that requires bits and pieces from each investigation to solve.

For some reason this was recommended to me by Steam... any good? Do I need to play the original first?
It's very good. You don't need to play the original first but there's no reason not to. The first game and its DLCs take place in the 18th Century while the new game is modern day, and the stories are related with references and so forth. I think playing in order of release is best.

I finished it yesterday. It's competent. The hard puzzles are less aggravating than in the first one, but some of the charm is lost in the way. The story is mid, the characters have no charisma and it's much more grounded than the original.

Now to wait for the DLCs to drop. 6 quid for 1-2 hours of quality entertainment seems fair.

Started playing this. Was happy to see there was a way to skip chapter 1 (since it was in the demo that I already played).

I like the overarching puzzles that bridge each scenario, but I feel this increased complexity has probably come at a cost to the quality of each scenario.

Still good though.

Yes. No, but you probably want to.
