I don't have the pop-in issues... set all distances to "high". Still, creature models do not appear as far as I would like them to.

No xml, cfg or ini file where you can tweak those numbers?

Witcher 2 is better than anything PB have ever made.

I wouldn't compare them. I like PB games for their freedom, and TW2 for the story.

I respect that... my reaction was mainly a kneejerk one to the Witcher 2 hate before. CDProjekt are the good guys. I used to say the same about PB before this DLC shit.

Fuck yeah, muskets are awesome :love:Well, actually melee fight is kinda mediocre, just like swordfighting (because it's, well, pretty much the same, except a bit more slower), but I totally love shooting tards with swords or spears  Actually better tactic is to sneak, shoot, run&reload (it doesn't take long, just a few seconds), come back and shoot again. With a good skills the enemy will die soon enough. It all takes a lot less time than swordplay and you can get unhurt from fights. However if you will be forced to fight melee then it's more difficult than swords, with human enemies wielding swords you are pretty much fucked if you won't shoot them.

Animals are laughable easy to kill in any case, I agree with that criticism. You can pretty much take jaguars and other, even more dangerous animals, without any skill if you mash buttons properly.

Not to derail this thread, but I have some dumb question about G2 that's just not worth a new thread.

Some weeks ago I got the PB Gothic trilogy on Steam, that daily offer thing. Having played G1 before I thought it would be a good opportunity to give the sequels a go and all that. I've been really excited to play NotR, since every-fucking-one use to say it's great (the Codex included, as seen here). So the question is:
Is it a separated expansion, as in, say, Throne of Bhaal
part of the main game but an isolated place, like Shivering Isles
or have it been completely mixed with vanilla G2 content and a newcomer like me won't be able to tell what's what?

I don't even know if I'm already seeing NotR stuff or not (started just a moment ago).

This one:
"have it been completely mixed with vanilla G2 content and a newcomer like me won't be able to tell what's what?"

It has both totally new world to explore and adds a lot to the original one.

NOTR is Gothic 2 overlapped both with different set, more difficult Gothic 2 content and additional content on top of that. Hope that makes sense (probably doesn't :smug:).

I've played past the first two islands(ie the tutorialish, linear part) and now the world map has properly opened up.

Would recommend the game to anyone who liked Risen.

To give a more detailed answer, NotR changes the following things that I can remember off the top of my head:

It changes a couple of locations in the vanilla G2 game, though nothing all that major aside from the one that provides you access to the new area. A few monster and item locations were tweaked, and some of the early game combat, as well as late game bosses were made more difficult.

It makes it require more skillpoints to level things up, but you get more experience due to the rather expansive add-on.

The expanded area and quests are integrated into the main game. Certain NPCs will have additional dialogue, be part of a new "Faction" (sort of separate from the others, but you'll see). The new area is separate from the main island, but you get there during the course of the main game, and can continue any time. It's generally good to play it after you've explored around a bit, have decent equipment and some levels. It's certainly fairly obvious when you're playing NotR content, but some of the changes to the main game might not be immediately apparent.

So Konjad, what the fuck was up with Webster wanting a permit to sell Muskets, and Sebastiano not having a dialog choice for that?
Did you figure that shit out? Because I ran into the same problem. Though I'm only trained in Blades I'd like to try a Musket because mashing attack is really starting to bore me.

Seems like signs point to an ultimate CHOICE between inquisition and voodoo ppl, as a CONSEQUENCE you either get to wield muskets or voodoo.

it's a good game, a good RPG and a PB game through and through, but not up to Risen 1 in certain aspects (a bit less exploration, seemingly dodge-less combat that makes monster fights a bit more tedious).

I agree with this.

Well, you may get the musket only if you swear to Sebastiano that you will cut your relationships with the natives, siding with the inquisition. You may need to do some quests before that though. As made said - inquisition - muskets, natives - voodoo.

By the way the captain's dead (died in a dramatic scene with a naked octupus-woman*). Now I've got the fucking ship and can sail to wherethefuckever I want and do whatever I want :yeah:Unfortunately all the sailing is automatic, you just teleport between islands. Too bad, I had hoped for some naval combat. Well, I guess no naval combat is better than terrible naval combat though.

And I disagree. It has a lot more exploration and territory than Risen. Melee fight was better in Risen indeed, but muskets in Risen 2 are quite fun and I enjoy shooting things a lot.

I went for voodoo since I'm a sucker for magic. It's a bit of a lackluster, but it gets the job done... I just wish they'd put a bit more effort into voodoo, like a direct damage spell involving a doll and a needle. Would that be too hard?

That's not putting more effort in it, that's going with the most bland possibility imaginable.

What the fuck is up with character clothes design in RPGs nowadays? Seriously. Where's the fucking costume party at?

Also lol @ first town nobody give a shit about it burning.

Bonus lol @ warping vegetation.

Uninstall is the best course of action.

Not necessarily. Fireballs are bland but they can be one hell of a satisfying spell when designed correctly.

Thanks Konjad and Aeschylus. These PB games are addictive as fuck, I don't even know how but I already have 9 hours in G2.

As for Risen 2, perhaps after some time PB may release an updated version of sorts, similar to what we've seen with Div2 in TDKS. Judging from the comments here, it seems like a great game buried under a pile of mess. In such cases, there is always hope.
Risen 2: Night of the Parrot?
