The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread - AUTUMN SALE 2024

Defense Grid, Tropico, and Torchlight are all pretty great. Unfortunately I already own 'em, but they're good deals and games.

Think I'll drop out of the running for getting every ticket, today. Just not interested at all in Men of War for $9. Bought a previous game in the series for less in another sale and it didn't really float my boat, and $9 is getting out of my immediate impulse buy range.

As for deals I'll snag today, I guess I'll get Polynomial and Flight Control, and I'm considering Dragon Age 1 complete. Probably shouldn't, but considering it anyway.

Hey, Assault Squad is up today! Nice, grabbing that one.

Any codexers playing that? Would love to try some co-op with you bros.

Bought got that too, but won't likely be playing any of it any time soon, got a huge back-log as it is.

Vaguely tempted by ArmA 2 like I am every sale. Probably still won't buy it.
I've been postponing buying ArmA II because I kept thinking they'd release an all-inclusive version, and I might as well get that. So, a few days ago, they released ArmA X - which includes Arma II, Arrowhead, both DLC's, AND ArmA I Gold AND Operation Flashpoint with the new 1.99 patch ("Cold War Assault" I think). I'll just wait for this one's price to go down.

Meh, so far the sale hasn't been very interesting. Kinda considering DA1 but I'm rather certain it'll be on sale again for Christmas, and maybe with a higher discount. I got other games to play anyway.

Is Two Worlds 2 really that bad? I know it got panned here but is it even a half way decent ARPG? Also considering the DA Ultimate edition for $10.

It's a lot better than the first from what I understand, which means it's basically a solid post-Oblivion sandbox RPG. Nothing special but nothing horrendously offensive either, I guess. For the price you could do worse.

I wouldn't bother with Two Worlds 2. It's a very average ARPG and doesnt' deserve to be compared with Gothic/Risen or Divinity 2.

The positive side is the superb graphics engine.

The negatives are:
- It turns out not to be an open world game.
- Production values slide drastically after the intro.
- The whole thing seems thrown together and the quest/plot is uncompelling.

Overall it has the feel of a rushed and incomplete product.

Actually the first was better, and actually had an open world with interesting locations and atmosphere. Criticism was more the bugginess, shitty writing and VA :)lol:).

Yeah I would have grabbed TW1 for like $5 instantly, think I'll just wait out TW2... especially since I've heard they're going to push out TW3 next year. I'm sure the price will go down.

Are the eschalon games good?

They have some shortcomings and are only about ~10 hours long each but are solid attempts at older school stat based isometric dungeon crawlers. Worth the sale price, imo.

Just noticed something. Transformers War for Cybertron is selling better than Dragon Age 2 today. :M

They are decent. You should buy them during this sale, although I would hesitate if I had to pay the full price.
Thanks. :D

That's because everyone has already bought their copy of DA2 :M

And of course Transformers 3 launching in cinema like this week does contribute.

How is the game, anyway?

Also, actually bought Two Worlds Two. Impressions so far are that it's very generic. The VA sounds like Geralt though, which kinda makes me crack a grin every so often, and the music is actually pretty good so far.

I'm enjoying HoMM V much more than I remember. Got sucked and got through most of a campaign already... kinda rare for me these days.

~ and re: TWorlds2.. there's nothing wrong with and it's prefectly enjoyable as long as you keep your expectations low (better with a gamepad too imo).

It's okay, but kinda boring. Somewhat traditional shooter without cover or anything popamole like that (Gamespot reviewer criticized the game for not having cover lool). But while nothing was that bad, nothing was that great either.

That's just single player, though. Multiplayer is just terrible with no voice chat, no cheat protection, stupidly small maps, with Call of Dooty kill-streaks. Transforming was actually useful, though, which makes it sad that the rest of the design of the (multiplayer) game is shit.

Indeed, grabbed the FNV DLC. I'm tempted to finally pick up a M&B game but why is Warband more expensive then With Fire and Sword? Does Warband have more content? Any suggestions on which (or all?) of the M&Bs for a newb to start with?

Yeah I'm tempted by M&B too. Which do I go for? Which has the best modding potential?

Well Warband is just like the original but with added features and multiplayer so pretty much there is no reason for the original except for mods. With fire and the Sword I'm not sure as I haven't played.

Hmm, Serious Sam double pack for £7, with both HD remakes. Wondering if it'll hit the daily sales soon; can't see it having much more off (currently 66%) but might be worth holding out.

Holy fuck I would be raging so hard if I'd bought that.

Good deals today, might get SS and Frozen Synapse.

Differences in Mount and Blades:
Mount and Blade: The old shit, don't buy it.
Warband: Mount and Blade only with more bloom, eyecandy, new gameplay features, and is the new shit so most likely all new mods will be made for it. This is best M&B.
Fire and Sword: No longer in fantasy medieval world, now you're in potato world and there are guns. To be honest Warband is still better, and there are mods that add guns and shit to Warband, but if you want an official alternate setting it's not too bad at the cheap price.

TLDR summary, buy Warband.

Not sure I'll buy anything today. I'd kinda like Fortix 2, but at $5? Eh.. There are definitely some good deals today, mostly on games I've already got unfortunately.
