The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread

Hadn't heard of desperados. Thanks. Commandos was a ton of fun.

I tried Robin Hood some time ago (from Steam) and it had an abysmally low framerate, many people were having that problem as well and nobody had a clear solution. Apparently this problem is present in Desperados as well, so you might want to grab a "free trial" version before buying it.

Can get both Desperados and Robin Hood from GoG. They are worth for the visuals/ambience alone. Good stuff.

Much better? No. Bit better than Commandos 1, but Commandos 2 is untouchable.

What it is about Commandos 2 that some like over Commandos 1? I've played it a bit and it seemed inferior to 1 in pretty much every respect. You sure you're not confusing 2 with Beyond Call of Duty (the expansion for 1) or is there really something about 2 that I need to see for myself?

I think it's a problem with Win8 that hasn't been fixed yet for Desperados and Robin Hood; as I said, the Commandos series was already updated for Win10 so it can run without problems.

Able to enter interiors, in full 3D.
Rotating map, opens up the strategy.
Better detection system.
Better looking.
Inventory system.
Less a puzzle game, more tactics and more flexibility within missions.
Actually has music, and its good.
Less but larger levels, and they feel more distinguished.
Characters are more versatile, which also makes the game less of a puzzle and more tactics.
More tactics + bigger levels + less levels = more replayable

Overall its an improved Commandos and a great sequel, like all sequels should be. Part of the reason which many disliked Commandos 3, which is like a Commandos 2 beta.

But I did play Commandos 1 a few months ago, and its still a superb game.

There was a fix recently on the steam forums for Robin Hood but I haven't tried it.

Most (if not all) fixes made by users don't work for everyone, though. I ended up giving up on that game, sadly. Still finished it like 8 times when I was a kid, it's super fun albeit very easy when compared to Commandos.

Hmmm, the "Collector's CD-ROM Editions" of X-Wing and TIE Fighter were added to the Steam versions of those games yesterday. That puts them on par with GOG.

CD-ROM Collector's Editions Now Available (and Win10 fixes too!)
3 MAY - DISNEYBIGPICTURE
Hi Star Wars fans!

In honor of Star Wars Day tomorrow, we're happy to announce that the CD-ROM Collector's Editions of X-Wing and TIE Fighter are now available! So if you own either game already, you now own the respective Collector's Edition too. (You may need to restart Steam and/or download the latest update for the title for it all to work properly). We also pushed out patches that should address issues some users have been having running X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, and Galactic Battlegrounds on Win10.

We love all these games as much as you do. We're committed to making our great catalog of Star Wars, Lucas adventure, and Disney/Pixar titles available and running smoothly everywhere our fans are.

May the Fourth Be With You!

I never played any of the Star Wars space sim games. Which one is best? xwing v tie fighter?

Tie Fighter is hands down the best of the bunch. X-Wing is good, and the nostalgia hit is great(Who doesn't want to fly an X-Wing??), but a lesser game.

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was mostly about the multiplayer, and had some campaigns tacked on in an expansion. It does introduce some new stuff, like the B-Wing, which is a blast to fly. Only pick up if you like the first two, though, and want more of the same(except the campaigns won't be as good).

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Yeah, this is becoming a shitty apstore. Checking the new games category is... painful. I'm seeing a steam crash in the near future. Shitty indie games will basically kill themselves off, since nobody would want to buy this shit, except when it is being shilled by someone like Pewdiepie.

I never cried when Steam had some form of self-imposed quality control. The way I found out about Torchlight was seeing it in the 'coming soon' section. Today that section is flooded with shit that cycles every day. So much so I haven't paid attention to it for years. I'm sure there are some decent indie games out there but they're getting drowned out by animu and RPG maker shit.

I don't get what you people expect.

Either you do curation and shove off ton of good games for price of few that will get some light on
or you take all but PR should be done not in store but elsewhere.

Good games sale regardless of steam position. Yes light on storefront help sales but if your whole idea of making agame and selling it holds onto only storefront then you may as well just shut off company and go to mac doing burgers.

Steam and other shops should be virtual spaces where people can download games. PR and visibility is something companies should themselves figure it out.

Especially now where news about good game spreads like wildfire.

I have never ever bought a game because Steam told me so, and since most of the coming soon shit is filled with RPGMaker crap and shovelware, like Metro said, I just ignore it. I have like 200+ games on my wishlist because I search for games I do care about and add them as a way to know how often they are discounted.
The top selling list is a joke most of the times.

I don't remember anyone crying about that. In fact I've always been against all the shovelware. Indie stuff shouldn't be on Steam, full stop. "Early Access" shouldn't be a thing either. It's just Kickstarter but worse because you don't get any goodies.

Oh, people cried to the high heavens whenever Steam curated out a game that they believed should be on Steam. Maybe not on here, since it's not like rpgs were in the running anyway, but around the web they certainly did. What's more, there's definitely some threads around here about GOG doing it. But, whatever.

What do you all think Steam is, anyway? After the AAA industry went into retreat, losing a lot of companies and those that remain reducing the number of games they release by upwards of 95%, there was a void. A void in Valve's bank account. No more constant AAA releases to fill the mighty Lord Gaben's larder. So, what do they do with profits hitting such a precipice? Why, look for alternative forms of revenue to keep the mighty kaching machine working overtime.

GOG has a clear editorial line, but its principles are rather dubious. This became a bit apparent with Hatred, but I think they didn't accepted it because it was competition. Anyway, there has been other games rejected by weird reasons other than just being from Poland. They claim they were never going to accept multiplayer only games, gaes with microtransactions (iirc) and early access games. They already accept Early Access games, though.
The thing is you end up being flooded with shit you don't really want to buy. Indies use Steam as a way to get bundle purchases, it seems. Steam is only relevant for AAA people in my opinion.

Gaben has enough lard already thank you very much.

It should be yes. The first step in the decline was when they turned Steam into a Collectible Card Game. I should have seen the warning signs then. But now, when I see such awesome classics as "Shower with Your Dad Simulator" in the line-up, it's obvious that we have hit Peak Shit.
