Name a top notch game with a fixed female main character... I'll wait
Tomb Raider, Control , Resident Evil 3, Mirrors Edge and Alien Isolation.
Control is pretentious slop, Resident Evil is a retarded normie console pap (oooh aaah is so spoopy  ) and Mirrors Edge is hipster boredom simulator. Haven't played Alien Isolation.

I'm old, I was there when Tomb Raider came out, it blew everybody's mind, it was a true gaming pioneer and an genuine masterpiece. One of the Hall of Famers, no debate.
what a load of POPPYCOCK! Control was really fun.

Here's a blurb from Red Country, which I believe is book four of First Law:
Yea the standalone First Law books aren't very good but the original trilogy is great. You're missing out.
I'm sure that's true. I trust you. My post is a commentary on the environment that would entice a publisher to advertise a book with a blurb like that. A female protagonist is one thing--not to my taste, but at least hypothetically it's workable. But presenting a woman as some sort of grizzled Charles Bronson archetype, even if only in the marketing materials, is the height of cringe.

It seems the entire industry is geared around appealing to Twitter activists and tranny-adjacent reddit nerds. From what I've heard over the last few years, genre fiction is even worse in that respect than AAA gaming. Not that this comes as a surprise to any of us here, I'm just cataloguing yet another example.

The Witcher 4 devs address backlash following Ciri’s reveal as main character

“I think there’s many very valid worries and responses, because I think a lot of them come out of passion, and I think a lot of those questions are also questions that we asked ourselves,” began Weber.

The narrative director then asserted that the dev team are “beholden to the lore” and the “canon of the books” created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Adding that they “really want to respect that.”

He further noted how they are not “suddenly making up stuff just because we want to. We really want to take these things seriously.”

He wrapped up the conversation by adding, “I think the best answer for us, for those people that really are worried right now, is basically to show them, when we are ready, that we really do this well and with care. And I hope we can then convince them with the game itself. Actions speak louder than words.”

in red country she's not. she killed someone before but that's all. old man is real monster. literally first encounter with people who burned farm. he just says "stay out of my way". wommyn is like "sure, whatever" thinking he will just distract them and she's stronk indypindy girlboss who will do all the work. and then he starts killing and enjoying it and she just watch with open mouth.

It is probably marketing babble, but we shall see. At least there's no "oh noes, the CHUDS are attacking! Circle the wagons!"

I'm very into cock and ball torture
Normally I'm fine with female leads, for instance I loved BloodRayne, just look at this chick:

^she's bad ass, sexy, cool, and just awesome with her one liners in the games.

Rayne is a very fun character, she has all the good traits that defines an action hero. It also doesn't hurt that she's cute:

However, in this political climate where chicks are made ugly, weird, bisexual or whatever, and or other woke crap, in order to push some stupid message that repulses my sensibilities; yeah, no thanks bro, I'm good.

Also, one of my Vermintide friends lost his mind over this whole Ciri business and got perma banned from the steam forums for this game - I really can't blame him, it's all so tiring with the current political climate. I find it crazy how games are getting more and more woke, yet, people like me aren't allowed to discuss or even talk about the political elements which are being pushed to the masses, without getting removed from the discussion in the process. I really do hate some of the game devs out there. I really do. They act with the smugness and pretentious of a primadonna while lacking all the charisma of one. They shove their stupid politics into video games then arrogantly tell us to fuck off if we attempt to express dissatisfaction - it doesn't make sense to me how the video game industry is the only one where business can do this to their paying customers. They censor you if you exercise the only power you have: shitposting and discussing. They think they're so smart and morally superior because it's so progressive to be woke.

I just think it's the worst. I really do.

I hope this game fails on the principle of it going woke and the developers censoring self expression.

I love the faux drama that constantly shows up in modern video game space, where developers feel the need to set the record straight after some guy named Piss_Drinker69 complains on twitter
