Best to check out this building before we depart Narshe.

But before we enter, let's check Locke out!

Somewhat shabby. Oh well, seems that business hasn't been booming for treasure hunters lately.

In case someone is interested about stats, since they actually do matter (somewhat):

1) Vigor means strength. Combined with Battle Power, they measure how much melee damage a character does, versus monsters Defense value.

2) Speed means how quickly the gauge fills up. This is pretty much a dumpstat since its quite impossible to make a character so quick that they would actually get 2 attacks instead of just 1 in a "round".

3) Stamina calculates how many hit points a character gains on level up.

4) Mag.Pwr calculates the effectiveness of spells.

5) Bat.Pwr measures the effect of gear on melee damage.

6) Defense lowers the damage that enemies do against a character.

7) Evade allows character to completely avoid damage.

8) Mag.Def is same as 6 but for magic (duh) and,

9) MBlock is same as evade.

Except that there is a bug in the game which swamps Evade and MBlock around, so their values actually affect the wrong thing. Also, it is possible to equip character (in late game) to be pretty much invulnerable, thanks to insanely high evade&mblock. Curiously, some of these mechanics can be found in WoW - namely the logic behind Evade which is same as D&D's AC, coupled with Defense which only lowers incoming damage.

Onwards:

What a useless bunch of windbags!

And I could not even read any of those books!

Funfact: You never know before hand which items you can "use" and which not, since there's nothing to differentiate them. So one pot might give an item and the next does nothing. One desk allows you to read a diary or a journal while most of them do not. Some bookcases do something, others don't. Frustrating and means that players are forced to walk around, prodding various items in the vain hope of finding hidden loot or activating something.

Figaro! There we'll be safe from the Empire, Terra.

Funfact! Random monsters change according to the terrain you are traveling over, plains being easiest, then forests and deserts having the toughest ones on overland map. Caves and waterways also have their own monsters, though they are often just recolored versions with better stats. And naturally sandy desert monsters are resilient to fire magic whereas combustible forest critters are not. And naturally, there are exceptions to this rule - the toughest overland monster can be found in a forest, though second toughest rules deserts.

Me, too.

I always wanted to finish it, as I liked everything in it. But, somehow... my interest faded at some point.

So, this LP is very much welcome :)

Nice LP ! I hope you'll manage to finish it !

FF6 and Chrono Trigger are the only jRPGs I've enjoyed enough to complete.

Is this going to be a largely hands off LP when it comes to comments? Or is there going to be a lulzy narrative like Locue's earlier commentary in his FF7 LP? Or are you going to deconstruct and comment on JRPGs, its tropes and FF6s gameplay? Or something else entirely?

No lulzy narrative since I don't think I could pull it off. More hands-off style, along with me explaining game mechanics and some more obscure plot points which players who only played the game once might have missed.

Actually, the bug is that magic block works for BOTH. Evade is useless and if you max magic block you are invincible.

You might want to listen to this while you read this update. I'll let you know when the music changes.

You can say that again Terra!

We'll explore the castle in-order to further the plot, yes FF6 has the insufferable system where the plot only continues if you do certain things in a place. Except you don't usually know what those things are. Generally, talking to people will do the trick but sometimes you have to talk to a certain person several times or my favourite - the trick where you have to talk to person A first, then to person B and then return to person A! And none of their dialogs reflect this! I dunno whether to hate Japs or the translators.

KEFKA! KEFKA!!! You really want to listen to that, it's pretty awesome track of 16-bit music.

So, just to recap - Gestahl is the Emperor of the Empire and Kefka is his right-hand man. He is also the most awesome villain in any FF-game ever and probably in the whole jrpg-genre, just because he's only a little bit retard - not a complete retard. Also, batshit crazy like Joker. :fap: :fap: :fap:

Got the music playing?

QUESTION! Do people prefer these bigger screencaps? Or are they too big? Were the previous ones better? Or something between?

I'm using Imageshack and my university's firewall blocks FTP connections anyhow :( Unfortunately I deleted the pics already but next update will return to the smaller caps.

What? Are you serious?

Yeah, they used to block everything except WWW. I managed to convince them that IRC should be allowed. Worst part? They somehow monitor the traffic so when I used a tunneling program so I could keep torrenting, they found it out in four hours or so and blocked me from using the university intranet. So I had to choose between uni resources or torrenting at a meager speed. Wasn't really a hard choice.

Oh well, at least they don't block any websites, like some ISP's do.

As Locue/Andyman started out with the noble goal of 100% completion of FF7, I aim for same. Not sure about Paladin Shield and Colosseum but at the very least I'll get all the dragons, doom weapon, all characters and all the sidequests in World of Ruin.
