There are way too many flashes and special effects. Like for example when he wants to kill the guard with a broadhead arrow:
1. First he activates focus - ugly filter fills the screen
2. Then he opens the inventor - and i must say that is one UGLY ass inventory - which flashes over the screen
3. And finally after making the shot the focus turning off creates another "i didn't see anything" effect
Same thing when he used focus to pickpocket the guard, the whole process is visually so messy you don't even understand what's going on. Also why did he have to use super special powers to pickpocket the guard who had 2 pouches? In Thief you would simply ... wait for it ... press the button twice!

When i noticed the tiles with carpets on them in the mansion my Thief reflexes woke up and i thought "he better use moss arrows or walk VERY slowly" but no he dashed on the tiles like they weren't there.:decline:
Voice actor tries so hard to be Stephen Russell it's sad. He also talks too much.
Seeing hands every time you try to pick something up or open doors will get old very fast.

And who keeps breathing so loudily through the whole video?:x

Aural feedback to the player. It sounds weird but yeah.

Sure, but unless he wore high-heels there's no reason for tile to make that much noise. Metal without anything under it, sure, but not tile. I would assume modern ninja Garrett is wearing soft shoes.

Although Garret was pulled into various plots throughout the City, it was always for mostly selfish (i.e. monetary) reasons rather than because he genuinely wanted to see bad people meet their end. Even in missions where he went out of his way to rescue his "friends" it was usually because they were a means to an end rather than because Garret actually cared about them that much. He did, however, at times seem to be more comfortable thieving from some over others, and although never directly stated, it is implied sometimes he has feelings for other people, he just doesn't make them obvious.

One thing I found interesting when I replayed through the series just recently: the only time Garrett ever really showed emotion or used the word "friend" in a genuine, unsarcastic manner was in the mission Precious Cargo when you find Lotus in the cold storage shed. It's subtle, but listen to his tone when he says "Karras will be stopped" and "Yes, my friend. What can I do?" For me, it drove home that he was no longer driven solely by the self-interest that had brought him this far, and it was made a more powerful moment by the contrast with his usual smug aloofness.

Well this Eurogamer Expo video didn't really eased my rage against Thiaf. A few quick notes.
There are some good stuff:
- The quality of the graphics and animations are looking good.
- Frame searching is a cool mechanic, just as peeping through holes
- There is rope arrow. Yeeey!
- ... and that 's it. Fuck!

Bad stuff:
- Although the graphics are fine, it hasn't got the Thief atmosphere at all. But I can get over this, if the gameplay will be good.
- Voiceacting is decent, but it is generic as hell. The Thief series always had unique voice acting, but Thiaf sound like any other game.
- Swooping or whatsit called is stupid and makes no sense. Why doesn't GArret makes sound on solid surfaces when he swoops?
- Focus. The biggest bullshit in the package. This alone could ruin the whole game. No redeeming factor about it at ALL. I very much hope that on extreme difficulty you can't do this shit. And I hope that the game is designed in a way that you can play it without focus.
- That shadow effect is retarded, and fucking useless, since you have a light meter anyway on the bottom left. It looks silly and thanks to that you see less of the world.

Overall, if Focus can be disabled, and expert mode is just like in previous games, I will give it a go, and might get some enjoyment out of it. But it is nowhere near Thief.

Looks like a steel pole. Hard rope.

There's smoke everywhere, even indoors. horrible. And seems you'll won't get over this...

One thing I found interesting when I replayed through the series just recently: the only time Garrett ever really showed emotion or used the word "friend" in a genuine, unsarcastic manner was in the mission Precious Cargo when you find Lotus in the cold storage shed. Very good point. The only question is why he calls the Pagans "friends" at this point.

Consider the following: In the Dark Project, he clearly shows that he follows the creed of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" as he assisted the Hammerites in beating the Trickster's forces. He does not like them, but he had no choice at the time. In The Metal Age, it is possible that the same circumstances apply, only reversed. His former enemy of the enemy is now just the enemy, while the former enemy is now the enemy of the enemy, and therefore a friend. One noticeable difference is that the Pagans are not as ruthless and bloodthirsty as the Hammerites or Mechanists, especially the latter. By the time Garrett reaches Markham's Isle, he knows that the Mechanists conduct vile, unholy and atrocious acts, not just because of the transcript between Karras and Truart, but also how the Mechanists get their Servants and how they almost gleefully slaughter a Pagan village. But while the Pagans are mostly a group of disorganized nature-minded people, the Hammerites/Mechanists are organized, almost trained soldiers. The average Pagan is not, and are ill-equipped to deal with soldiers entering their villages and killing everything in sight.

This may be what triggers at least some sympathy from Garrett. The Pagans are being hunted, and most of them wrongfully so. He may even feel some guilt in the matter because it was him that unleashed the Trickster and destroyed him, which triggered the events leading to a backlash against the Pagans from the Hammerites/Mechanists. But I think one reason is very clear: Garrett probably figures already that Lotus is about to die when he finds him. He's not about to let the last moments of a dying man who's been kept isolated in a freezer be spent in the company with an uncaring, sneering condescending prick. So Garrett, at least for that moment, puts on a mask of sympathy and kindness. It's not like Lotus is gonna go and blab to everyone that Garrett has gone soft, is he?

This moment shows that Garrett is human. Just compare this to yourselves, put yourself in the situation. If you come across a person you don't know at all who are in their last moments of life, and you're the only one around, wouldn't you at least stop and stay with them 'till the end? For many I know, it's not necessarily the fear of dying that scares people, but the fear of dying alone.

...

There, I just spent 10 minutes analyzing a 30-second long conversation between Garrett and a dying man, a moment that shows more depth of character than everything I've read about the nu-Garrett in Thiaf.

It does... something like "WOOOOSH".
I think they were really trying to copy the Blink sound from Dishonored.
Somehow i have the impression that these fucks keeps holding the game from release until some other game from the same genre make some good cash, like Dishonored. Now that stealth games are kewl, they will release the game, only with ripoff features.

Yes I also noticed that, it was kinda wierd.

Well this hardly makes a difference. Graphically it doesn't look like a rope, but you use them the same way. In previous Thieves it also looked like a steel pole.

Although the graphics are fine, it hasn't got the Thief atmosphere at all. But I can get over this, if the gameplay will be good.

I didn't notice that smoke to be honest, probably it wasn't a problem for me.

Don't know 'bout you guys, but the hands sticking out when sneaking makes it look like Doom with fists in use. I was hoping the guard was gonna get ripped and torn.

haha, with these assholes even pseudo-intellectual terms like "ludonarrative dissonance" become relevant. How can you make up some shitty story about a guy who sees killing as a last resort (LIKE BATMAN OR MCGYVER YOU GET IT THIS IS AWESOME) and then have him headshooting unsuspecting guards for XP?

Also, what's the deal with that stupid frenchy presenter at the Eurogamer conference and his passive aggressiveness barely hidden beneath a cloak of nervous and pretentious overfriendliness? What a fucking laughing stock

Game journo "uhh.hi..I wants to ask a question:) "
Retarded Eidos guy "NAME....NAME...GIMME YOUR NAME...WHAT'S YOUR NAME:mad:"
Journo: "Uh...my name is John:eek:"
Eidos guy: "HI JOHN. Nice to meet you :D Love your T-Shirt:D"

Is that what passes as manners in frogland and/or french canada?

I don't know if it's their stupid accents or their disability to express themselves in proper English, but ever since the first videos appeared the entire team has been coming off as extremely arrogant, condescending, stupid and unpleasant. I'm tired of watching these assholes to be honest.

Edit: Oh and him not knowing what "ghosting" means wasn't a joke, most definitely. How someone could even believe that is beyond me. When he's saying "oh you mean like going trough walls and stuff? Cause that'd be weird" there's a genuine perplexion on his face. It's only 2 or 3 seconds later he figures out the guy was talking about a no-kill walktrough.

That's just how the French are. They are a genuinly unpleasant people who you'd do well to avoid as much as possible. I can't speak for French-Canadians, but the best place in Paris is the flight terminal for departing international flights.

In defense of the tile thing, I always wondered why Garrett wore tap-dancing shoes.

Tap shoes or jazz hands, which is worse and why? DISCUSS!

To be fair, they weren't journolists, just random gamers on the expo. And actually I was annoyed by nobody telling his/her name in the first place. I think that's basic manner. But yeah... the PR guy was obnoxious, with its forced apllause.
