I'm confused. One guy says no shadows, one guy says clear shadows, and another guy says OP shadows. Which is it?

Of course you aren't. A clever guy would take a look at the stuff that was released to the public instead of asking the public opinion.

That's an issue of effort however not of cleverness. From the videos, I'd have to say shadows tend to be OP, so the "no shadows" comment makes no sense.

Not really in the mood for reading 171.5 pages of mostly shitposts. Can anyone summarize why Thiaf is massive decline? I thought the game was out already hence the verdict but apparently it's anyone's guess at this point.
Here, have a taste of a part of the decline.

This game looks horribly boring and has less colour than the first game, which BTW didn't have colour lighting.

I personally prefer toned down or lack of colors.
If they are done right, that is.

Real life doesn't have any color, so I prefer games that are brown/monochromatic.

So, they finally realized that the purchase is not gonna happen, so they release playthroughs?

Probably. This video is actually quite interesting. And it has no voiceover, hurray!

Stuff isn't accesible after you leave and linear hallways are common in console games because of memory issues.

The first area appears expectedly shoeboxy.

The lack of any differing floor-based footstep sounds really kills it for me too. Clear signs we continue only regress into simpler and simpler games.

For a while Paul Weir was the audio director on the game, however he was fired/ragequit like 3 years ago so who knows how much of his work made it into this build (which according to leaks is less than 18 months in development).

I hate that obnoxious music when the guard noticed the torch went out ...but how else will retards know when patrols are suspicious?

I fondly remember doing a Cragscleft Prison run on Expert too carelessly and thinking I was doing great just to turn around and find a hammerite bringing down his hammer and one shotting me ..which nearly made me shit myself.

Eidos Montreal cant into Subtlety.

I think it's back to looking okay now, but that chase sequence with guard dogs on the balcony still really did a number on me.

The video looks pretty good.

I don't get the wining and the elitists. This isn't Thief 4, it's Thief, a reboot. You want a game like Thief and Thief 2? Go play them, they haven't disappeared.

Games like Thief and Thief two have disappeared. We should be happy to have ever played the originals, but we will never get games quite as good, not in the genre of stealth.

If your standards are so low at this point you can accept the weak attempts at shoring up this cud of a game... then you can join the throngs of others who gleefully enjoy missed-potential, subpar games. Have fun paying $60 for a game you will maybe beat once and then forget about, while the first two thief games continue to offer countless hours of replayability and mastery... in just your first playthrough.

Why should we demand perfection from creators? I mean, we can settle for less. Aren't we being selfish, by being so critical of this game? Why would we want a better game? Especially if a better game wouldn't appeal to general console-owning audiences. I suppose you're right, now that I stop thinking about it... surely we're all screwed up in the head for wanting to derive more fun, or more sublime enjoyment from what we like. Surely, baser, simpler pleasures are sufficient, that's why we're all enjoying the latest facebook and iOS games and the latest iteration of run and gun: the hallway.

You can't argue against this,

yet...

I don't get the wining and the elitists.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I remember guards in Thief 3 reacting to nicked stuff, but that was just-Ohai, where'd that go?- and then back to normal.

Watched the new vid, and my god that whole thing is so badly on rails. Maybe it "opens up" later on, and the "ghost", "opportunist" and "predator" things at the end of the mission would actually mean something, but that was so on rails that if you had a gun you'd be basically chained to a slowly moving platform killing platoons of dumbfuck AI. But of course since there's no gun and instead you have "sneaking action" and omg lockpicking, it shouldn't garner quite as much rage as it would if it were a generic cinematic shooter.

I mean, was there a different path to take during all of this? If so, I didn't see it. Yeah, maybe use a water arrow one time less or more, maybe knock out one more guard for personal convenience, but that's about it. One guard walking predictable loop over and over, cinematic scripted blabber, wow, sure does look good. Also liked how in the starting sequence, after extinguishing the fire, "Garrett" uses the pick on the wall, makes quite a thud, and the "enraged" smith or what have you just goes "Ah, must've been nothing" and turns off alert mode. Yeah, sounds, what's that for.

This game is trying to let people think that it's much more than it really is. All these "cool" gadgets, "neat" UI elements and "smooth" cat-like animations cannot conceal a fundamentally boring and dumbed down game at it's core. Lot's of style, little substance - Montreal.

I hate the UI elements... looks like something out of a tablet game.
