Can someone sum up the main reasons why this game is shit? Actual reasons, and not "nuGarrett is noob and wooden roof texture is three pixels wider than in Thief 2 RAEG BUTTHUR RAGEQUIT TERRORIST BOMBING OF EIDOS HEADQUARTERS".

For instance, I've read that you can't jump in Thief 2014. Is this true?

I see a few people who occasionally come into this thread and complain about its extravagant length, thinking it's just people trying to find every bad detail in a single game. But IRL it's so long because nobody's willing to read 193 pages to learn all the bad things about it, so there's always someone parroting old news. The fact that you can't jump has to have been established since like the fifth page or something!!!

This picture truly sums up a lot of things about the arguments used by far too many gamer retards.

What I'm about to say may sound condescending and arrogant, but I'm only saying it because it's true. I'm not saying "I told you so" or "LOL dumbfucks!" at anyone. I'm saying the following because it's fact.

When a person has been doing the same thing for close to 30 years, be it a profession or a hobby, they tend to get quite good at it. So good that they can, at a glance, determine whether an item that falls within their decade-long area of expertise is of good quality or bad. Ask any quality craftsman, any gourmet chef, any enthusiastic collector, etc. There's a reason why people with experience are consulted and looked up to... at least, that's the way it used to be for centuries, nowadays it seems kinda different, as I'll explain later.

I'm one of several people on this forum that possesses such experience with video games, across a wide variety of platforms. I've played games in every conceivable genre, including a few genres that are extinct today. I've played thousands of games. In addition I'm well familiar with the Thief series. I'll admit that 15 years ago I didn't recognize Thief TDP for what it was, but by 2002 I was fully aware of the cult classic Eidos had on their hands and I've been a devout fan ever since. I was also very disappointed by the fate of Looking Glass Studios and I'm relieved that we at least got Thief 3, although it's clearly inferior to its prequels. Although I'm not as devout as the ones that have spent countless hours over DromED to create new content for the fans of these old games, I've still spread the good word of Thief where applicable.

And I'm going to make the statement here, I don't need to play a game before I can judge it for what it's worth, especially not a game that's claiming to be based on a game I'm well familiar with in the first place. I know what to look for, I know what to expect, I know what's supposed to be there, and what not. If the things I expect are missing, it clearly won't ever be the same. If it isn't based on the same foundation, it's not the same thing. And the moment I began to see what nuThief was like, I immediately realized that it would, at best, be a terrible Thief game, a subpar stealth game and a disappointment for everyone. Experience has taught me to notice and recognize these things, it's a trait of man that tends to be VERY HARD to disprove, especially by people who clearly don't have as much or similar experience.

And yet, gamers believe that they can dismiss such experience outright, without reason. Look at gaming journalism, they speak of games made 15 years ago either as if they were ancient relics recently uncovered from dusty tombs or sealed caverns, and as irrelevant junk that holds no significance today. Or both. They claim that clinging on to a piece of code made in the 90s is a crime or a sin, when newer, more modern versions are readily available, even though they lack content and quality. And the gamers eat it up, totally clueless about what came before, only focusing on the Next Big Thing, as told to them by Gaming Media.

Truly the worst case scenario of the self-entitlement gamers are plagued by. It makes us look arrogant, stupid and a disgrace to Mankind.

If Eidos, and the Thief developers are reading this as some posters here claim, then my message to them is this: You fucked up. You know it, we know it, admit it. We (people in general) can be forgiving when others are honest and forthcoming. I'll admit that the odds of you being honest and forthcoming at this point are next to none, but I rather wanted to have those words out there for you than to be silent. I don't like what you've done, but I'm not gonna rage and send you death threats either, though I hope you'll understand if I wish that your careers in the gaming industry will be short. That's another upside to having decades of experience under your belt: You know what works, and what doesn't.

Quite frankly the "You can't judge it till you've tried it!" line is a fallacy stemming from the days of gaming where your pre-release exposure was limited to some magazine coverage and a demo if you were lucky. The days before the internet was even a huge thing for gamers. Today, we're inundated with so much fucking pre-release coverage that it's absurd. You know every skill or tactic months before launch, you can argue about mechanical balance for weeks before it hits "beta", it's fucking retarded.

Logically, you'd think the fallacy would have died off as a result. I mean, clearly we're able to tell if a game is shit or not by looking at this massive amount of pre-release coverage right? Sadly, this is not the case. I'm not sure if it's because most gamers are insecure fucking retards who can't accept that a game of any sort might possibly be bad before they've choked on it, or if it's because marketing departments have astroshilled that line so hard on the internet that it's become a psychological meme.

Either way, hopefully more and more highly hyped pieces of utter trash hit the market so that this fallacy can finally die.

There is certanly nothing wrong in forming personal opinion on a game by watching a video, we played this shit for ages, we know how it goes, it's not hard to predict how one studio will do after a few games.

But if you are forming an opinion for OTHERS, like writing a review, I believe even a shitty game deserves a honest approach and at least a playthrough. Otherwise we might as well start writing reviews and present them to everyone just by glancing on screenshots, which is really not far from what doritomen do. Whatever side you're on it's still an arrogant way to do things.

What's ironic is that all the hype, trailers, ads and so forth is made exacactly because the punters are supposed to form an opinion - an opinion that this game is so good that that I must have it.
But as Unkillable Cat (why doesn't he have a

?) pointed out, experienced gamers will see thru all the hype and see that the game is crap.
But apparantly we are only "allowed" forming one possible opinion from all the information.

To me, the new trend in gaming is to have the player experience the feel of playing, without the designers needing to go through the hassle of designing gameplay and true immersion.
Instead of having shadows, they make the levels seem shadowy.

Instead of the game having dark areas, they give the game a dark vibe.
Instead of sneaking, it gives you the experience of swooping like a real master thief would.
Instead of being mysterious, they put a filter overtop to give the colors an enigmatic tone.
And instead of real tension where the player wonders how they're going to escape, they tell you that this is a tense moment and that in the next cinematic Garrett might not get away.

In Thief 4 you experience the core essence of Thief, but you never get to interact with the core essence of it.

Guys, let's be honest, journalists are in general responsible for much killing and wars today and it's no wonder gaming journalists are directly causing the decline in the industry. All they have to do is follow the rules of ethics and everything would be fine. But we have a problem of barely literate people who choose to be gatekeepers, and the corrupt being allowed to study journalism. It's the same for any journalism field.

Secondly, you can traverse the entire game without stealing a single loot item. That's nice, but at least the game gives you the choice. Too many times we have games that don't give you the choice of doing extra things, or chosing not to do them in the first place. I like the way the game is setting itself up to be. If you HAD to steal the loot items, you'd have people complaining about crap like that. The game gives you a choice of whether or not to do these things. The people that will call it a linear cod experience, are linear cod players. The ones that will rush right through cutscene to cutscene and ♥♥♥♥♥ about how boring it is. Those of us that want the game THIEF will play it like a thief, the game also, with it's scoring system and friend leaderboards, will drive those that want to play the game as a perfectionist, to play it accordingly.

why would it be the same as it's predecessors? its a ♥♥♥♥ing REEBOOT! it won't be the same, they are remaking the game so that newer generations, and people who played the game before can either get to know that theif was a stealth game from 11 years ago and get them into the series, or if people miss the theif games and you say you watched it being played, how are you supposed to get the atmosphere of a stealth game, if you aren't sitting in the darkness listening to guards footsteps, plotting patrols and what not, your "review" is the biggest pile of rubbish I have heard in my life


I don't know why I even bothered.

Here in Norway journalist stupidity is caused by too tight Palestina scarfs (part of uniform at the College of Journalism) reducing flow of oxygen to the brain.
I wonder what excuse gaming journalists have?

First they claimed it was blogspam, then they claimed that someone linking to it on other forums (forums which aren't google indexed) was vote manipulation, now they're claiming I used an army of alts to upvote it (despite the votes ticking down immediately if someone upvotes the /r/gaming post, indicating that someone is straight up botting that thread) and literally saying "You'll just have to trust us". Smell the desperation in the coverup?

Deimorz got strongarmed / paid off by Square Enix. It's not the first time he's done this.
