So I imagine we can expect a lot of cutscenes with Garrett's face in the view to capture all those expensive motion captures.

And since he wears a mask hes the best actor ever, because he has to act emotionally eyes only. just like bane.

The only thing I'm afraid of right now is that this game turns out to be decent enough on its own.
Not as a Thief game. That hope has died when they started their PR campaign.

But let's say it's potentially a fun game, which just never should had be called Thief.
The legacy will be tainted because all the kids only know the new game and the press will praise the successful reboot of a dormant series.
And I might in principle be interested in playing it, but that would mean supporting the fuck-up they did with the setting - which I do care for.

It's already happening. I'm seeing a lot of comparisons with Dishonored. Of course, this could just be speaking of the aesthetic, but some of the comments I've seen seem to indicate that people think Dishonored was the first FP sneaker, and that Thief is copying it.

It's kinda like how Bethesda are the creators of the Fallout franchise.

Now that they have finally raped the best game ever made until date completely, we should ask what empowered them to do so. The only answer is cheers for DEHR. We allowed them to survive for making shit games and shittier games did they made.

DE:HR was mostly a good game. It avoided recasting pitfalls by having a new protagonist, while still throwing fans a bone with Bob Page. Yeah, boss fights were ass and the AKSHUN TAKEDOWNS!!! was pandering to the console kiddies, but overall, the game was worthy of being called a Deus Ex game. Stealth wasn't the only way to play it, and that's how it had been since the first one.

Thief, on the other hand, has always been about careful, calculated stealthy maneuvering, and any sort of focus on VISSERAL AKSHUN!!! is a slap in the face to anyone who calls themselves a fan of the series. Replacing Stephen Russell was just the diarrhea icing on the shit cake they're making.

I'll wait for the RELOADED release.

Indeed. DXHR was rather good, with a few exceptions. Also Missing Link had improved considerably on the level building.
I think that DXHR has been developed by a different team, however?

It might be though, that DX is simply a franchise that can be "modernized" much more graciously, as the gameplay has more potential to cater towards today's unwashed masses.

Thief? Not so much.

The end of every place
1. We have a franchise with 3 games that are outdated, clunky, and too dark to see anything in
2. We will use the prestige of those game to sell a game to a new, modern audience - specifically, the many who bought Dishonored and AC
3. We will ignore the old fans, and streamline and modernize the game in order to appeal to as broad as swath of the public as possible
Fixed it fer ya.

They probably did think that it would go like any other reworking of an old classic, with only a few dusty old-timers caring enough to complain, all of whom could safely be ignored. But trying to alter some classics is like touching the third rail.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
ttgl is way too easy going. The only way to fight decline to bitch constantly until 15 years later someone finally listens and launches a kickstarter.
This is what I keep thinking. What are the old Looking Glass people up to today? Right now if they came on KS with a "spiritual successor" to Thief by the guys who brought you the originals.... My goodness, I think they would shatter KS fundraising records!!! Then have a $5m stretch goal to get Stephen Russell!

I'd pay 1000 bucks for that, fucking honestly.

  • Levine: Making the most pretentious popamole you've ever seen, heard, or headbutted someone about to try and get them to realize it is shit.
  • Spector: Bemoaning the fact that his shitty Disney-branded Wii games were really shitty.
  • Brosius's: Dancing Games & Dishonored
  • Randy Smith: Mobile Games
  • Harvey Smith: Arkane (Dishonored)
  • Pagliarulo: Bethesda, fucking around with Skyrim and making sure Russell has a paycheque from SOMEBODY.
  • Stellmach: Licensed Garbage @ Activision
  • Doug Church: Who the fuck knows? Not even Valve!
So no, no, I do not think lightening is going to strike twice here. LGS is long finished, and some of the key talent has in fact spearheaded :declining:

I think I'm willing to give those guys a chance if they come together for a Thief-like Kickstarter, except for Pagliarulo because of Fallout 3.

The piratebay, you heard of it?

Pirate Bay would send the wrong signal, imho.
I don't want them to think that they created something desirable by raping Thief.

What the fuck? I wonder if there was some other reason they didn't hire him, because that's too retarded to be real.

Has to be, either that or they have some bizzarre idea on why a VA must be able to do the stunts an animated character can.

Is it just me, or does it seem like they're retconning a lot of bullshit (darker City more akin to Deadly Shadows than to Dishonored, different Garrett face) that pissed off so many fans?

When is that gameplay footage due?

EDIT: Anyway, people are raging about Stephen Russell voice.

Okay.

But how come nobody mentioned lack of ERIC FUCKING BROSIUS? Even here, out of all places in the sea of popamole? The most crucial aspect about Thief's audio?

I'm very disappointed :rpgcodex:

No, not specifically regarding the trailer. But then again the TDS mix version of this trailer isn't really representative of Brosius' haunting ambience.

Not like we'll have it anyway. Not accessible enough.

holding onto Steven as the voice of Garrett just for the sake of our nostalgia would be like wanting to cast Sean Connery again in the new 007 movies... It’s a nice thought, but honestly, it wouldn’t make sense for anything else other than nostalgia.

This is one of the most retarded things I've ever read.
I'm just amazed that the retards don't see the only logical conclusion to this - holding on to Garret himself doesn't make fucking sense.

I think there should be no actors in movies, only stunt doubles. After all, they're supposed to able to do their own stunts! This way movie makers could deliver much more convincing experience!
