It's like they are grasping at straws to make up an excuse.

Haha, wow, this is turning into a PR nightmare for Eidos. Both the official forums and their facebook are livid.

Clearly they were banking on this being a sleepy little IP that was largely forgotten by the fanbase, and it has not turned out the way they were expecting.

Over there.
Almost as entertaining as Sim City.

Almost.

Only this time, I'm more disappointed. I loved the Thief series waaaaaay more than Sim City and was looking forward to this.

This is what I keep thinking. What are the old Looking Glass people up to today? Right now if they came on KS with a "spiritual successor" to Thief by the guys who brought you the originals.... My goodness, I think they would shatter KS fundraising records!!! Then have a $5m stretch goal to get Stephen Russell!

Well the codex hates most of the main people now, Ken Levine, Warren Spector. Doug Church is probably very happy at Valve.

  • Levine: Making the most pretentious popamole you've ever seen, heard, or headbutted someone about to try and get them to realize it is shit.
  • Spector: Bemoaning the fact that his shitty Disney-branded Wii games were really shitty.
  • Brosius's: Dancing Games & Dishonored
  • Randy Smith: Mobile Games
  • Harvey Smith: Arkane (Dishonored)
  • Pagliarulo: Bethesda, fucking around with Skyrim and making sure Russell has a paycheque from SOMEBODY.
  • Stellmach: Licensed Garbage @ Activision
  • Doug Church: Who the fuck knows? Not even Valve!
So no, no, I do not think lightening is going to strike twice here. LGS is long finished, and some of the key talent has in fact spearheaded :declining:

Making games you love does not pay as much as working for AAA Publishers.
You sure? Brian Fargo seems to be doing ok for himself...

Fargo was not a part of Looking Glass.
I KNOW that! What do you think I joined in 2013 Jaesun?!! :x

:hug:It's all good my friend. ;)

What I'm saying is that Fargo seems to be doing quite well making non-AAA games and I imagine those working with him like it better than the sweat-shops at EA, etc.

Fargo went back to making the games he likes to make (and Produced) and enjoys. And it is working out so far.

No one from Looking Glass seems to want to do that. Even Warren Spector....

The AAA Publishers and Developers do offers some good money...... Think bout that for a minute.

I'm actually curious about that. How much do those top dogs (developers) make? Second tier guys along the lines of a Avellone, Mitsoda, McComb, etc. (and, yes, I know those aren't AAA developer guys)? Then the grunts....?

I mean, most of them aren't in too bad of a place. Except for fucking Stellmach, jesus. 10 years churning out licensed shovelware is a fate worse than death in the industry. It's just sad considering the resume he had on him coming out of LGS.

As much as people will scoff at the thought, there isn't as much of a variance between old and modern when it comes to Thief/Deus Ex/System Shock style games compared to Infinity Engine RPGs. Yes we can tear Dishonored/Human Revolution/Bioshock apart and list all the ways their predecessors are better, and I agree with them all probably, but at the end of the day Dishonored is a lot more like Thief 2 than Skyrim is like Planescape Torment.

The desire isn't as palpable, I would think.

Also 3D first-person would cost more money, I suspect.

Sorry, I don't think I understand what you're getting at there. Seems like you skipped up the mental ladder a couple of times.
Or I'm just dumber than I realise.

Who expected Skyrim to be anything like Planescape?

If you wanted to say Morrowind or Daggerfall, then the changes between those and Skyrim are similar to the changes between SS2 and Infinite, Deus Ex and Human Revolution, etc; that is, spending time and resources making the game look as photo-realistic as possible through animation, voice acting, mocap, and so on, rather than spending those resources on actual meaningful gameplay content, and making the games less challenging in general for fear that player might not see that MAJESTIC CINEMATIC MOMENT near the end of the game that they blew a million dollars on.

Great, I am dumber than I realise. Realised.

There must be a point when games can't get any dumber? I hope we're getting to it, maybe it all reverses from there.

I guess what I am basically saying is that kickstarter is fueled by desire for things not being made otherwise. No matter how decline Dishonored, Human Revolution and Bioshock are they scratch that itch for most people well enough that they're not as desperate.

Like Dishonored with stealth.

:what:

Holy hell, they really are retarded. I find this funny that they still "want" to appeal to the old fans and then casually splatter crap on our faces.
I don't understand their logic/train of thought:

1. We have a franchise with 3 games in it and fans who love them
2. We will make another game in it to make money off those fans
3. We will make design decisions that piss them off and streamline it for modern audiences
How does this line of thinking work?:retarded: Do game devs chugging mountain dews have different brain patterns or so?
