I am the shadows, the dark and deadly, the velvet night.

Deadly my ass, way to focus on what put the thief into Thief Eidos.

Time to reinstall Thief Gold and purge myself of this heresy by immersing myself in true thievan in the night. :obviously:

Ahahahahahaha

Garrett has THE CLAW

Guess we're looking on a bit more down to earth Batman Arkham City in making.

One positive sentence I noticed: that Garrett "is not a fighter" and going against lots of guards would be suicidal. Although they used four guards as an example, does that mean I can still kill three? :?

It seems to me it would be much better to introduce a new master thief, with a different background. Maybe set it some time after the original Thief games and the new master thief is some cocky upstart who think Garret was overrated.
Popamole players need to feel the most empowered possible... next WH40K game will probably let you play as your favorite Primarch, and have a God-Emperor DLC...
That already happened with Space Marine, with Titus the edgy ultramarysue that doesn't follow the codex and stops an ork waaagh and chaos invasion all by himself.

Haha I didn't actually report you. I just have no idea how anyone can read a developer saying that in the original Thiefs "if a guard saw you, you might as well press the reset button" and still be optimistic.

Well direct combat in Thief did kind of suck. I wouldn't say it the way he did, but... yeah kinda. I dunno.

All I know is in a world of derp Human Revolution was a bright spot, and even if this ain't perfect I will still hopefully enjoy it.

I always though the clunky combat in Thief was a design choice. You're not a fighter, you're in fact supposed to be very vulnerable when anyone knows that you're there. If the game had great, fluid combat mechanics it seems to me like there would be much less of a reason to stay hidden, which of course is the entire point of the game. That's not to say that you don't have options when you're spotted. You can throw a flash bang, shoot a rope arrow and climb up, or just run like hell and hope you find a dark place to hide or a big pool or something. It's really only after you've exhausted all of these options that you should think about going toe to toe with a guard. Most of the time you won't need to, as one of the other options will work. Direct combat was, and should be, an absolute last resort. Now they are saying "fighting 4 guards at a time is suicide" which to me implies that fighting fewer guards is not. Garrett should not be able to take on 3 guards at once, that misses the point of the game.

All I know is in a world of derp Human Revolution was a bright spot, and even if this ain't perfect I will still hopefully enjoy it.

I enjoyed Human Revolution quite a bit too. And honestly I remember being quite down on it before release from what I heard of the design decisions, so maybe you're right that it will be enjoyable. Of course, at it's heart Deus Ex was a shooter with mediocre shooter mechanics that was made better by all the possibilities the game allowed for. Thief, on the other hand, was a sneaker down to the very core, and it's sneaking mechanics were excellently done. Because of that I think it's much easier to fuck up Thief than it is to fuck up Deus Ex, and from everything in that article, it sounds like they are doing their best to fuck it up.

To make this complete they just need to announce they won't release a mission builder.

Well I'm not going to convert the Codex to optimism and usually I'm right there with you. I just trust this studio to make a game that respects the old while also being new. We'll see how it turns out.

That one was already in thief II

*shudders*
Generally, i'm not too impressed with thief II and bits of thief 1 story wise. It's just that sweet sweet gameplay and large levels.

There can be no optimism here, this will be at best a PS4 Dishonored clone. The simple fact that they're using cinematics is proof that they're turning Garrett into a ninja.
I swear, Fallout 3 all over again :(

it was the guards and commoners' dialogue that really did it for me. Even though they now look like they're made of cardboard, they've still got personality

It looks good to me as far as level of details go, but I don't like yellow/green lightning obviously. Also Garret design is overcomplicated and popamolish-EVUL (Assassin-Creedish). I'm also concerned about his hands "interacting" with enviroment - are those cutscenes?

AFTER my little tweaks in Photoshop:

I know it sucks, but at least it's properly dark out there.

Noob question: Wouldn't that be achievable by just adjusting the monitor settings? (you know contrast, brightness etc.)?

I am on the fence a bit. I mean, screens look very similar to Dishonored. But that is not necessary a bad thing as art direction in Dishonored was good in my opinion. It was the things like magic abilities for example that I didn't like. Here it looks like the setting is preserved in some details (no guns, no rifles, normal carts instead of petrol-propelled tanks/cars, no walking spiders ala HL2 etc.).

I just really hope there are no "special abilities" similar to Dishonored (you know: entering the body of fucking rat, blink-cheat and so on).

DURR SKYWAY YOU NO NOTHING IT WON'T BE DUMBED DOWN

But you retards rage now and yet it will be GOTY 2014 (or whenever) of Codex just like Skyrim and DXHR were

The ONLY way you are ever going to get a non dumbed down shitty console Thief series is with a Kickstarter (and under a different name).

It is truly sad no one has. :(

Bro Kickstarter is a guarantee you will get an even dumber Thief. Like they will totally bother developing a proper engine with all the gameplay complexity of Thief, some proper AI, great sound and massive levels for 2 mil

Well, that article certainly was illuminating. Toning down the supernatural parts, parcours, general navigation beacons, keepers as thieves, focus, minigames, a new Garrett (and canon)

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

WAT!!

general navigation beacons

WAT!! (Though, I hope you can switch it of in the settings).

keepers as thieves

Wouldn't mind if they go a bit underground because of some shit happening in the City. But only IF, they remain formidable faction and not some fucking outcasts and partisans...

Can't wait to see half of the people who posted negatively about Thi4f here flip-flopping due to post day-one purchase guilt.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
Anyway, read the article, took note of the highlights. This new Thief game has 4 points that look promising and interesting: Modern-day graphics, an interesting-looking lockpicking mini-game, smoke arrows and close combat that's a little more than spamming the attack button while circle-strafing.

Meanwhile the new Thief game kills off pretty much everything else good about Thief. I wouldn't give a single fuck if this was a new IP like Dishonored, but trying to pass this off as anything related to Thief is an insult. The Focus system sounds like crap, and while buying new and improved equipment doesn't sound that bad, upgrading skills sure doesn't. We don't want QTEs, we don't want "awesome features" that were already available in the original Thief games, we don't want parkour-style timed sequences to emphasise how stealthy Garrett is. The only thing special about Garrett was that he could melt into the shadows, otherwise he was just a clever man in decent physical shape with a nice assortment of tools. He's not fucking Batman, no matter how much this game tries to make him so.

Asking Eidos to change the game into a non-related IP is futile, as they've clearly spent a shitload of cash into making this game, including having fashun gais create his suit in real life, and also crafting a compound bow.
