Yes, obviously turn based combat is a bad idea.

This a good example of why the Fallout fanbase sucks.

Oh no, no compromise. No fucking compromise. None. It has to be 2d, turn based, isometric, and run on DOS, or it isn't Fallout. Hell, if it doesn't use the same old engine, it isn't Fallout either.

Seriously, what's so bad about first person real time mode for adventuring? I did a little digging up and apparently even Leon Boyarsky said it would be a good idea, though I certainly did not get the idea from him. Oh yeah, that's right - only developers can come up with ideas. I must have stolen it because it's such a tough idea to come up with, especially from me, since I've got an IQ of 50.

Go play Paradise Cracked and tell me turn-based all the fucking time is any fun. Go play it, I dare you. Fallout wasn't turn-based in adventure mode, so why should Fallout 3 be, anyway? I don't get it. Then again, I never get it, do I?

I wonder if anyone's tried to sell a 16bit 640x480 resolution DOS game lately, in retail. If you want Fallout, take my suggestion and go play it. But that's a dumb suggestion, isn't it. It's got to come out of the mouth of a developer to mean anything.

All hail the developers.

No one's saying that it's a bad idea. What I'm saying is that it be incredably distasteful for them to use Troika's idea after they stole the license out from under them. Obviously you don't agree.
Where you got the idea that I think it's a bad idea I don't know, care to support you claim? While you're doing that you might as well try an show that I'd prefer an RT-survival-horror. Where you got these notions from I don't know, but I'm starting to believe Volourn's assessment of you just pulling thoughts and conclusions out of nowhere.

I did a little digging up and apparently even Leon Boyarsky said it would be a good idea, though I certainly did not get the idea from him. The freakin idea was front page news here, you even posted in the thread, almost every one remembers it, but apparently you "had to dig it up" just to refresh your memory?!?!?! BTW, he didn't say it would be a good idea, he said that it was part of design and implementation of their dream project. Apparently, this must have slipped your mind. YEAH RIGHT!

Hahahah. hahahah. Hahahaha. Hahahahah. Hahahah. Hhahaha. Hhahaha. hahaha,

Seriously, first person view - despite what its fanboys say - is the most unimmerisve way to play a game. Period.

Only lameos prefer that style of view. Period.

There, I answered your question. I doubt you are happy with my answer; but meh.

Your answer is bullshit. Try elaborating on why it's supposedly 'Hahahah. hahahah. Hahahaha. Hahahahah. Hahahah. Hhahaha. Hhahaha. hahaha, lameos prefer that style of view. Period' instead of just saying 'it's lameos who like that style of view. Period'.

Seriously, I implore you. What is so fundamentally bad about it? You sound like one of those fanatical deathmetal/punk/indie/grunge retards who gets all high and fucking righteous whenever any style of music other than the horrible crap they listen to is mentioned. Oh no, they made a music video! SELLOUT!

I have this suggestion that the game should perhaps be in first person and real time until combat, then the camera pans out to an isometric/turn based mode.

*YOU* have a suggestion, wasn't this Leonard's idea?!?!?!

EDIT: it's bad enough that they stole the license from under Troika, but now you're saying that they should steal their ideas too?

Like the Krondor series? It could be worse, by this time i would settle for that.

Obviously, Westwood Studios travelled into the future to steal Troika's holy ideas.

All hail the mighty, infallable Troika.

I wonder why Arcanum totally sucked in many ways. Crappy combat, horrible bloated character system, everyone giving your Orc the same freaking dialogue.

Oh yeah dumbass, that's what I said. I remeber writing it, just the other second - or... eh, no? I played freaking FoT and enjoyed it too some degree - wasn't THAT annoyed with the RT combat, more than the abundant amount of weapons and silly BOS depiction. I also had no problem with what Sawyer was doing to the game, even if that would be getting me shot by several of our forum members. Go shoot off some more random things about the immature and conservative fallout community, while brown-nosing developers.

I didn't mind first person, or third person in Morrowind (I had other issues with it), I probably won't mind it in Bloodlines. I just don't see Fallout as the kind of game to be experienced in that fashion - just as I couldn't see an american as James Bond or bands with one original member still keeping the old name.

And as for people taking the drugs-n-hookers thing as something referred to by mr Howard, it's notable to say that the game including Special and being on consoles as well isn't a strict quote. People believe in print magazine a lot more than internet sites usually, as most magazines have editors that are supposed to read and check up on facts - as well as having the interviewee OK the article.

"Try elaborating on why it's supposedly"

I have multiple times. Foolish firts person fanboys like yourself just go on your merry way. The bottom line is that 1st person is *not* immerisve. In fact, it's so full of crap that it make sme want to vomit. It adds nothing to the game's atmopshere. Nothing. On top of that, it makes vieiwng the area you happen to be in much harder and "less fun".

In conclusion, first person fails.

I have a lot of problems with what Sawyer was doing with the game. Does anyone here besides me and Saint remember his plan to unify all weapon abilities into a single one? For streamlining purposes, he said. Oh yeah, it's really confusing to have 5 different skills for combat.

What about the wretched storyline? I have that thing lying somewhere and it certainly isn't the holy grail of well written plots. Did I mentioned it has chapters?

Nobody's brown-nosing any developers here except the crazy Troikites who get mad whenever anyone suggests that something was ever wrong with Arcanum. TOEE was a much better game.

Also, there's no reason why you can't switch between first and 3rd person modes in the adventure mode a la Morrowind (and presumeably TES4). That would be terrific.

Well I didn't say it had to be strictly first person in adventure/noncombat mode but knowing Bethesda they would definitely have to accomodate their TES fans somehow. There's nothing strictly wrong with that, is there?

If it's only going to be out of combat, there's no reason why you can't switch between first and 3rd person modes.

"TOEE was a much better game."

Haha. No, it wasn't. Whehn i think of better games I don't think of them as being buggier with a crappier story, awful npcs, easier combat, and the list gones on.

TOEE loses.

As for Sawyer's version of FO3; it may have had its faults; but it surely woulda been 100x better than any trahs that Bethesda will try to pass off as 'good'.

Hahaha.,

"accomodate their TES fans somehow."

That's the problem for me, and its why my hopes for FO3 is non existent.

Is that like Walter Cronkite, but instead of being "the most trusted man in America", they're "the most fervent fans of Troika"?

HA, what's that flame bait or something. Your ideas are just deluded and nonsensical, why don't you give it a rest for today and come back when you're coherant.

I wouldn't call it terrific, but I would call it a compromise I'd be willing to accept, if isometric/rotating/zooming/paning camera was out.

What a bunch of idiots. ANALYZE the news bit before you cunts go rabid like DAC or NMA people (fucking idiots).

What a looser you are, NMA still hasn`t talked about it yet, and Teatime at DAC is keeping the channels open for Beth to reply and will change his stance if he`s proven wrong. Fanboy bitches like you are the worse trash on gaming fora. Got raped by an uncle when you were young and need the attention right? Looser.

I'm the 'looser' who spells loser right. NMA is full of biased cunts, and just because their stupidity is more mild than DAC doesn't make it ok. And there's nothing for Beth to change it's stance on. They haven't said shit. "Fanboy bitches' like me huh? Take a look in the mirror twat, you're the one of the biggest fanboys of the group. Actually, I don't get what the fuck any of this has to do with being a fanboy, is it because I think you and your idiot internet buds are mororns? Is it because I'm a 'looser'? Fuck, not a 'looser'. I'm not the bitch, I'm making fun of you for bitching, quite a big difference. Nice and original uncle insult though, really, top class.

Weren't you the same little shit who was telling people to be optimistic about a TB isometric game from Beth?

BTW, the preview was done with a Beth dev, so where would the writer get the idea that it will retain it's
gritty drug-and-prostitute-speckled irreverence is still at the core
He's refering to FO3 here, where else would he get such an idea except from the person whom he conducted the interview with. No one's jumping to conclusions, it's a logical assumption.

I'm the same 'little shit' who's taking the logical step of taking a neutral stance until some concrete info comes up instead of being a little crybaby bitch. A view that anything can happen, good or bad, but only gets pissed or whatever (if he even does) if it turns out bad. Or just thinks "hey nifty, turnbased and iso" if it ends up positive. I'd say that's better then living in pessimism and busting the balls of the developers who read the forums and are making the game, and who put up with enough "fanboy bitches" shit as it is.

And ovbiously you don't know how an interview works if you think Todd was responsible for the "gritty-drug-and-prostitute-speckled" bit. I'm sure one of the questions was "what's the fallout setting like Todd?", of cource it was the writers own input on it you fucking twat!

It's almost as if the fanbase WANTS everything to go wrong. Feargus is right, FO (rabid) fans suck the hairy cock.

That's the problem with you and a large number of the FO fanbase, isn't it Volourn? There's just no compromise. If it features EAX4/AdvancedHD surround sound as Morrowind did, you'll probably get mad about it because it isn't holding true with the legacy of Fallout's 2d Miles Sound System. Maybe not, but I'll be willing to stake my money that there's people out there who would insist that Fallout be developed on the same old engine.

Nothing was wrong with Arcanum.
Wrong.

1) turn-based/real time hybrid/halfassed combat/click-fest/screensaver
2) sprite-based avatars that looked like poor pasted on cutouts.
3) the color brown
4) mechanical abilities suck
5) useless spells - just use Harm, for good measure.
6) imbalanced character system known as STEAM (alternatively referred to as SHIT)
7) imbalanced skills
8) q: guns, how useful are they? a: not at all
9) weapon and armor durability - might as well carry 20 cheap swords since everything break so easily.
10) did I mention brown, yet?
11) plenty of lame uninteresting dialogue with predictable reactions. Oh yeah, this definitely blows Planescape Torment away! Or maybe it just blows.
12) the color brown, again
13) training your abilities. What? You mean I have to go all the way back there? Shit!
14) I don't think I need to mention the combat again, but I feel compelled to. So here goes: the combat.

Oh yeah i`m sorry, i`ll change it this time:

What a loser, if you weren`t such a dickhead you would know there are four Bethesda devs at NMA speaking with us, and the interaction in DAC has been great too. So could you move your sorry excuse of a fanboy ass to a grave and dig a bit deeper? Thank you in advance.

As for the newsbit, it seems that VD DID NOT READ PROPERLY.
WTF are you talking about? Wasn't the console shit, view, and combat enough? There is no direct quote about the drugs and hookers, but I doubt it came from the mag. It's too specific . Strangely enough, Rex, you believe the first part of the unquoted sentence (that SPECIAL is in) but not the second.

Wrong. My issue isn't with the legacy of Fallout; it's with the legacy of Bethesda. They make crappy games. Period. I serisouly doubt them slapping the FO logo onto their games is gonna make me like their crappy games more. That's the problem. Almost anyone else making FO3 would get the benefit of the doubt. Bethesda lost that privlege. Their own damn fault for makingc rappy game after crappy game.

"There's just no compromise."

Wrong. i can compromise when I'll get soemthing out of it. But, I won't get nothing out of Bethesda's FO3 so I ain't compromise. I won't settle for anything less than them *not* developing it.

As for your silly Arcanum list... *yawn* Arcanum is awesome. Period.

Again, how am I a fanboy? And the developers once again, aren't saying shit even at NMA because there is -shock- nothing to fucking say yet. What have they said there? I know pete or someone said that the reason they haven't said anything yet was because there was no team yet, and therefore, nothing to be said yet. What else has he said oh brilliant one? Where's this juicy new information?
