Played through TR1 recently and just finished TR2.... Is TR3 more like TR1 or TR2? Is the rest of the franchise shit?
TR1 & 2 only. Play 3 if really desperate though I sadly wouldn't recommend it despite it having a lot of charm and some improvements at first glance, then move on to other games.
The entire rest of the franchise ranges from mostly utter garbage decline, to OK but just play better games, to pretty damn good but only in co-op (Temple of Osiris).

Liked TR1 much better than TR2 as the latter didn't have enough tomb raiding and seemed to focus way more on combat and human enemies.

Embrace the hitscan. TR2 is the combat at its best, for in TR1 a lot of the time you can just get to higher ground and spam infinite ammo pistol while the enemy can do nothing, and doing so is strongly encouraged by the design. In TR2 resource management is more meaningful and you don't need to hog the pistols quite as much. Of course, this (adding a hitscan army) isn't truly the answer for better combat, but as it stands it has the most meaning in TR2, then 1, and 3 in last place.

If I were looking to waste a few months of my time I would remove all their shit "remaster" changes, then get to work on making the game actually better and more engaging. No point though, the people don't give a shit for real game design, especially in mod form. Give them achievements and AI-upscaled textures, you win.

I agree that the combat was more engaging in TR2. However, the negatives outweighted the positives imo.

What did they fuck up with the remasters gameplay wise?

Gameplay not much, aside from increased draw distance nerfing the navigational challenge and making distant enemies easy to see, which is a big deal. But otherwise it's all the other shit.

Tomb Raider 3 Remaster Seems to Quietly Edit Out Lara Croft Pinup Posters in Recent Patch

Can you imagine how insufferable one must be around other people that something like this bothers them so much that they had to do this, knowing the reaction it would get?

For some insight into their method of madness:

It's not about what's shown, but all about the context, angles, facial expressions - you name it. And as the video points out, about bending the knee to the alphabet mod. If you pander to them as well, you can include heteronormative imagery such as those posters. If you don't, your work needs to be abolished along with all works that support the old, patriarchal heteronormative system. This is the video's TLDR-essence. Everything that is known about Crystal Dynamics *spits* tells us that they're fully on board with this ideology, and willing to go even further if given leave.

I guess the next patch that Aspyr's devs are already working on will determine whether this was an accident, or intentional censorship. If they fix it, it's the former.

Haven't decided if I'll watch the video. I just don't understand how, as a business, they can be so ideological that they would reject/forgo massively lucrative sex appeal (where it fits). Their job is to make money. Goes for all of them, not just Crystal/Aspyr.

There's more sources of income than just the sales. Doesn't Blackrock finance these companies in some way, among others? Things like that would certainly explain why companies of this sort seem unafraid of the potential losses caused by agenda infection. Not that they have any other choice but to march forward towards the execution pit, if they want the extra woke funding and if their equally clueless masters tell them to.

Marketing specialists have told them this will get them more money in the long run, they aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts or true belief in the cause.

No doubt they're told that they're on the winning side, that the new world order will soon be here, after which they will be treated as the forerunners of culture. It too is just a guess, a prediction. Things could very well (and I damn well hope so) go the other way.

If they think they'll be forerunners, that ship has already sailed, the forerunners were in the 70s and 80s, not 2024.

Basically every franchise has 2 good games. The original and the sequel. Everything after that is "I want more of that please" with declining results. Unless it's a hard reboot of the concept entirely and then it can be a different series with the same name doing the same thing.

You need money to make money. All of the money lenders demand you insert this and consult with these people to get their backing. If you don't then you never get to make a game at all.

This is also part of the problem. They're being told nigras and women are the best consumers so we should all chase these low IQ people in an attempt to maximize profits.

Crystal Dynamics have always been utter trash and a stain upon the industry. Their best game was what, Soul Reaver? Which was never a particularly good game. Just OK.
Not always. One of the co-founders of Crystal Dynamics is David Morse, who was also a co-founder of the Amiga Corporation back in the early 1980s before Commodore scooped them up. They started off fine, but like anything in California, turned to shit.

I'm pretty sure that once you get indoctrinated by the modern left, you forget how money and business work. You see it all the time in any kind of media where the left gets control of something, and they inevitability start massively virtue signalling and telling people not to buy or watch or listen to what they've been making if you don't align with them politically. It's always them running their mouths, driving off customers, wrecking the business, and then doubling down on whatever platform they can that the only reason they lost their jobs is because of bigots.

Everything going on with Tomb Raider right now makes absolutely no sense at all from a business perspective. They just recently licensed out the tabletop rights to Tomb Raider to some far left company that intends to make a game where Lara Croft is now a consultant that goes around lecturing on the evils of colonialism. Not only is that just an absolutely shit idea for a tabletop game, it's hard to argue that's not brand wrecking.

I agree with you in theory but the reality is very different. The way to make money in 2024 is not to sell a product to general consumers. It's to convince 'venture capitalists' to give you huge amounts of money based on an idea or a concept. Why work to please 10 million people when you can convince 1 sucker you have the killer app/ultimate coffee machine/you're a crypto master and make even more money? Investing has utterly destroyed the traditional capitalist model and now every big company is pandering to investment companies not customers.

I'll agree that there's people out there with a lot of money who are also willing to just throw away that money for an agenda. They're honestly in the same boat as the people who own the companies that allow the properties they own get trashed because they don't agree with it. Typically a "venture capitalist" is looking for a return, it's a business venture. However, those who have an agenda are looking to push that agenda and write off the losses on their taxes. The same thing goes with a lot of fund managers. They can prop up woke companies by moving those companies in to a fund. Someone buys the fund, they get a share of that company and that company gets some operating capital. As long as there aren't a huge amount of those woke companies all collapsing at once, or it's not a gigantic woke company like Disney losing billions of dollars in a single year, that money is fairly secure.

A lot of them aren't even looking to make money on every investment. They're all looking for 1 in 10 to be the next Google basically. It's like everything is Star Citizen.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered | Patch 2 - Posters

Aspyr Daniel
7 hours ago Updated

Thank you to the Tomb Raider community for your continued feedback and support for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft.
In the recently released Patch 2, we made several texture and graphical updates to the HD version. As part of these updates, the posters in Sleeping With The Fishes (The Lost Artifact) were inadvertently removed in the HD version of the game.
This has been resolved and these textures will be restored in Patch 3.

A minor positive development, we will have to see what actually happens...
