Depends how much time you spend reading!

Also, who knows, with how much preproduction time and Wasteland 2 profits they have, Torment might just end up super huge after all.

Their problem is timeline. I can't see a large game being made in one year. PE is supposedly slightly less content than BG and its tentatively delayed until the Winter.

I wish Brian would just delay Torment until after PE, and ask Obsidian to handle production on it. Delay would suck but them Obsidian guys know how to make a pretty CRPG.

What timeline and what one year? Torment is going to have like a full year of pre-production at this point waiting for W2.

The current estimated release date is Q 2015. Assuming they start production on it in March, since Wasteland 2 needs at least a couple of months of patching, that gives them one year of production.

Or am I missing something here?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Yes, release dates get delayed.

BTW, it's worth noting that the original PS:T also had an extensive preproduction period, during which Avellone had the opportunity to flesh out much of the world long before it was actually implemented. Hopefully inXile will do the same so we can have a more polished/"complete"-feeling beta with less butthurt.

Oh, and I mustn't forget, PS:T also had a relatively short production period - possibly even a year. I'll try to find a source.

GAWN: Oh it was?!

SW: [laughs] Baldur's Gate was being developed concurrently at the same time Planescape was. So as they would release updates to the Baldur's Gate engine, we'd incorporate them and, shortly thereafter we started making some large changes to their engine as they were developing it. But, I think Planescape originally went into production in late 97, early 98, as it is now, and then got put on hold for 10 months while Fallout 2 was wrapped up. There were around 3 programmers on the team working on modifications for the Planescape engine during that time, but the real development started happening in late 98. We busted through the content of the game in 11 months.

There was an article about TToN in some magazine, it was said that one walkthrough won't be very long, but there is no way you can see all the content in one walkthrough, it's all about story branches.

Great job Inxile. 'nuff said. I hope Monte gets a fat cheque from us.

EDIT:

Actually screw this. I put $400 bucks because of the last two stretch goals. Seriously, no. Long fucking story. You hired every "writer" if we'll call those guys that, you could.

Long fucking story people.

Here's the article in question:

Anybody expecting this game to be Baldur's Gate-style 80-100 hours is pretty dumb.

But again, freaking out about game length at this stage is stupid. Nobody knows how long the game will actually be, including the developers.

Excessive length can actually hurt a narrative too. :smug:

They shouldn't put theme-irrelevant areas/activities in just to make it longer for example.

Adam Heine said:
Gotcha. Then yes, dialogue will absolutely be used for a lot of environment interaction. There will be systematic actions that will be more context sensitive (lockpicking or bashing a door, for example, or disarming a trap), but there will definitely be items, machines, incomprehensible alien minds, and other Numenera weirdness that is not systematic at all, and which you will interact with through dialogue.

By the way, wasn't Collin McComb supposed to make a walkthrough of PST with comments on its making of?
Has it begun, is it still in the plans, was it cancelled?

Working on it. As you can imagine Colin's schedule has been pretty full.

Maybe Torment Numenera will become the most pre-planned and pre-production iterated game of all time.

Pretty much. It will look pretty on paper just like WL2 did when they got all those big names to do a "first pass" on it haha.

Ok thanks for letting me know! :)

Definitely not high priority, but I'm very excited to get insights on the making of PST!
