I’m very happy for those of you that have enjoyed playing Torment, we did put our all into it. And I truly apologize for the missed stretch goals. Making games is full of surprises in development and we made a mistake in coming up short on the companions and other items. We learned a lot since 2013 and we were very careful in the promises we made in Bard’s Tale 4 and Wasteland 3. It pains me to see how upset you are because indeed you are the ones that backed us and gave us your faith. We know that your trust and support is paramount and we are working hard to restore that.

Bard’s Tale 4 is looking spectacular and Wasteland 3 is making great progress. There is no way on earth we will miss any of the features we called out. We are still quite a small company and we know that our communication could be improved. To resolve that, we are bringing on a full time community manager to better communicate with you during production.. Truce :)

We love making these kinds of RPGs and we appreciate you supporting us."

I disagree. You can identify what goals it was trying to achieve, and how well it achieved those goals (not very well for the most part from what I understand).

Duh, if there's nothing else to compare it to, then it either achieved its goals (10/10) or it didn't (0/10). You won't know how well it achieved its goals because judging art is always abstract and it needs comparisons. That's why we can identify masterpieces. Aesthetic judgement is always tied to an intersubjective consensus.

I love that wayward quotation mark on the end, suggesting that he just copy-pasted a section from somewhere after googling "how to damage control angry backers failed launch restore trust how".

I like how he plans to fix things by hiring a new... PR guy!
Seriously, he should run for office in Italy, success is granted I promise, he has what it takes.

IMO, Rhin and Callistege were vaguely better than the banality that were the other companions. Both managed to vaguely pique my interest, but that was it.

Why did people like Rhin out of curiosity? I have mixed feelings about her. She was the best companion, but almost entirely by default. She's the only character (maybe excepting Aligern but Aligern's shit) that has any kind of emotional bond to the MC, which is amazing when you consider that in PST there wasn't a single companion that didn't have or develop some sort of craving dependency on the Nameless One. But even then, Rhin's connection amounts to being a cute, slightly precocious girl in need of protection.
And later an older, Mary Sue-ish badass version of same
It's not necessarily Rhin's fault, it's the problem of the main character being a complete cipher incapable of fulfilling any emotional niche in the plot that prevents any bond being forged.

Was it just the 'stir up protective feelings, then saddle you with terrible party member' thing that people liked, the subversion? Or was there something else to her that made her good?

Wow Fargo adressed some of the issues. Just goes to show you what a difference my posting here has made. No need to thank me though, just doing my duty for the cause of better games.

Just play.
It ends randomly near the end. This game is a joke.

How is it possible for only a third of all the text to be in a given playthrough? You can play this game 3 times and get almost completely different text each time? Not to mention that a 3rd of 1.2M is 400k, which is 4 400 page novels. How fast are people reading?

Easily possible. The useless walls of text seem really robust.

Fixed.

The damage control with the added content is a really nice idea and i appriciate it.

The problem is the narrative premise and the way it's tied to gameplay. Adding even more stuff is good if you like the actual gameplay. Improving crisis is not enough if you don't add more crisis.

why
I'm glad there are no romances in the game, it would be pretty awkward considering that the maws are more interesting than your party members and better looking too.

It doesn't looks like there's any replay value so I'll go back to finishing an AAA RPG that has better writing, combat, exploration and doesn't end in two evenings, like Witcher 3.

Hey, out of the thousand projects that went anywhere, did Interplay ever plan a sequel to torment?
