I just realized that mage characters get the shaft talent wise. The spell runes can be purchased later - I just took the great sword and the two handed hammer on char gen and picked up the vigor run in the camp.

Nothing of value lost. Seriously. But if you're worried take the same school of magic twice to get the talent (tip: shield).

Mage character rapes as long as you boost cooldown reductions. And have sigil of illusion to make a prone/stun rape machine + mirror image. Cause arcane armor + mirror image makes you the team's tank that casts aoe.
Does atrophy get good spells eventually?

Dunno, I stay as fuck away away from buffs/debuffs in RPGs as possible - they are usually trap choice. In Tyranny they seem to follow this pattern.

Time spent buffing/debuffing is not time spent killing shit.

Coming from Civ6, what's it with rulesets being overly complicated and UIs failing to cope with this complexity these days?
If I look at a thing I found and I have no real idea whether or not it's better or worse than the thing I'm already holding, your UI sucks or your rules suck or both.
Also, what's it all those fiddly and ultimately weaksauce abilities? And why can that enemy archer pierce my mage at his leisure while I'm engaged in melee with him?
Even moreso than in PoE, I find myself longing for the UI and gameplay of Baldur's Gate 2 - this can't be good, right?

Found of reddit, apparently Obsidian out-lawyered themselves, giving a starting edict that had to be resolved "before the day of swords". Without year stated :)

After thinking about the wording of the edict I started a new character and rested over and over until it was a new month. When I advanced the story and read the edict the counter became 363 days as opposed to the normal 8.

I've experienced my fair share of RPGs where offensive magic is utter shite.

I don't think debuffing is worth it. On PotD it seems that MOAR DAMAGE is key, since the enemy's tactics seem to be to overwhelm you with their numbers, so the faster you kill shit the better. Not to mention that any other strategy is out of the question because you have no battlefield control and you really can't do anything else. At least until Ascension Hall you can have 1 CC, which lasts 5 seconds, soooo yeah.

You get one talent if you pick the same magic school twice. On the plus side it's much easier to boost Athletics, Lore and Subterfugre to a decent skill level during character creation as a mage. You get better dialogue choices, you can pick locks, you don't fail scripted interactions, and you get XP for all that. I think it's a decent compensation for -1 talent.

[Edit]: Since the game is hybrid-friendly, Bow primary + Vigor secondary is probably the best overall choice. It's still -1 talent, but: a) you get 5 Lore + 5 Subterfuge + 3 Athletics, b) Heart Shot is strong enough to make a difference in early game, and c) unlike in PoE you can cast buffs while out of combat.

They really need to gate some of those dialogue options better. Verse confessed to me that she was a spy in the middle of the tutorial and expressed her sincere hope that we could learn to trust each other again - two minutes after we had met, in the middle of an ambush.

I really don't get why the mob variety is so low. Three types of "bane" over and over and over again. Just re-texture the existing models and add a couple of abilities to it, how much could that possibly cost? How about one immune to physical? Something to shake things up a bit...

And dropping the cold killer attitude going all emotional when you talk about her power.

Couldn't you get Leliana (lol DA:O) to spill all her "secrets" in the tavern you meet for the first time in? Basically the same thing here. You can ask Barik how he masturbates the first time you see him, soooo. Verse is kinda multiple-personality disorder because she's a completely different person once you get some loyalty with her.

That I think was on purpose for her to spill it early, though still I'm under impression that loyalty gate is too low. It is pretty obvious that she did not appear by accident - even inquired about it she tells you how Voices of Nerat sent her to intercept you (out of goodness of his heart, of course)

You can also unlock her first two per-rest abilities through dialogue right when you meet her, which makes her massively more powerful. That just doesn't seem right.

Is there any way to attack friendly NPCs at the start of the game? I know in PoE you could slaughter Odema's caravan right at the start and the plot would accomodate that; here the PC just says "Sorry, I can't!" when I try to target a friendly NPC.

Patching this would be criminal. Such a good method

There's a building called Sirin's sanctuary on the minimap, you walk through a doorway and she's there

In Mask of the Betrayer, it's totally possible to max out Gann's influence the first time you meet him, getting some spoilerific dialogue as a result. :M

I remember that actually (you had to be charismatic + notice that he changed his ward symbols and compliment him about), but I don't know what spoilerific things he said. Was that fixed in some patch or is it still in?

All my playthroughs took place with a fully patched game, it was there.

Nope. Game has less reactivity than PoE.
