Finished it. Game is quality wise like IWD to BGs, a bit lacking but still good.

Game has full blown MMO (Underrail) style combat now, which might not be everyone's thing. On PotD it's a bit easier than Pillars, but I ran around with a 4 mage party, might be harder with martial classes. AI was basically useless for me so the gameplay included a lot of RTS-like f1-2-click-shift3-click-f2-5-click etc. spamming the entire time. Default combat speed is also much slower than Pillars but thankfully can be sped up with the slider.

Spell crafting system is fucking brilliant - you can ie. make a fireball with 2 projectiles both of which bounce 4 times. This does little to a single enemy, but bunched up baddies get obliterated by 10 fireball hits. There are a lot of really fun combinations. Bad part is that it makes physical classes seem boring in comparison, they should have gotten a similar "technique" crafting system. Best part of the game.

Story and writing is good but a little off throughout. If it's bothering you I recommend taking a few shots. Companions are very interesting, but could have gotten a personal quest or too for more screen time. I found the narrative compelling, dials up to 11 a bit fast at the end but that's mostly minor. Got the (I think) Yes-man ending which was satisfying. There is a lot of reactivity with regard to your conquest and background, how much branching in terms of areas there is, prolly like 10 maps difference.

Loading time for me were less than Pillars and only had one crash on transition. Didn't notice any gameplay bugs at all.

Took me a good 25 hours with likely missing a few side quests, with a second playthrough feeling mandatory to see everything (AoD-lite), but with potential for disappointment if there is little distinction. If you liked Pillars buy it otherwise wait for 50% off.

8-10 hours is impossible, speedrun or no speedrun. I'm at 18 hours and and I'm not past the end of act 2, this is looking like a 25-30 hour game to me, on a fairly completionist playthrough

So without loading screens. Ok

I also just finished it.

I find the ending rather abrupt. The setting itself has kinda the same "made by committee" feel that PoE has. Also, it seems to me there is less C&C or I just never found alternatives. On more than a few occasions, it seems like you can actually attempt to dialogue, but when you speak to the final character, there is no other choice but to fight

You have to pick a side and stick to them, have to kill the Archon of Shadows, etc

In the ending, I was expecting at least
a showdown boss fight with whoever Kyros sent to fight you
.

The point about writing being a bit "off" sounds right to me, some parts seem not to flow very well, can't remember specific examples right now besides the ending. Maybe one example is a number of stuff that the game tells you, but you can't do anything about, and sort-of just fades into the background.
Sirin's mask, you can ask her more about it, but even when she tells you, you can't do anything, or at least I didn't find anything to do. Also Berik and Verse's relationship, you can get a combat move, but it doesn't lead anywhere by the end. Berik asks you to bring him to the battlefield where he got his armour stuck on him, but once there he says "Oh wow, this place didn't change much" then shuts up. A lot of these kinds of false leads IMO, a lot of telling, and no showing or resolving.

I did like the magic system though.

Do copy pasted soldiers and bane encounters ever end for something unique? I am clearing 3d tower and I don't know if I can take the repetetive combat anymore. It feels like Deep Roads/Od Nua again, but the whole game is like that.

A few interesting fights

Archon of Shadows
Voices of Nerat (I sided with Disfavoured and got them to bend the knee, so didn't fight them)
but mostly meh fights.

But Tyranny just has so many rough edges sawn off PoE, there's so many qol things like making highlight everything a toggle
...
Seriously, highlight everything as a toggle is amazing.

Pillars of Eternity has this feature, but it's not bound to any key by default for some reason (seriously, why would anyone want to use the other option other than misplaced nostalgia?). I kept it on at all times.

I've played Pillars when it came out, on PotD, knew nothing about the combat system (I don't read manuals) and not only wasn't it challenging, it was also boring. (and buggy)

3.0 fixed it.

Quality choices involving everyone's favorite furry. That's definitely what I've expected after being ambushed by this thing and choosing to fight it.

No, third choice in the second picture doesn't mean killing it.

Stealthy characters trigger cutscenes, even if they are not detected. Even better, cutscene dialogues don't check whether your party is actually present.

That's just how Obsidian does it. You can trace it a long way back. In fact, I don't think I've played an Obsidian game yet that doesn't feature this kind of bullshit.

badler Is there a console command to advance a part of a quest? I'm stuck here without older saves:
m5iIXRC.png

Already shot the winch, lowered the ramp and defeated the party left by Elia, but nothing changes.

Some amazing luck I have. First I got stuck in the Maerwald bug in PoE now this.

Yeah, but I am not sure what it would be for that quest. I'll have to ask an area designer on Monday.
Do you remember the command itself? The quest name seems to be 01_qst_rustcanyon_main_dis.

EDIT:
I managed to change the quest stage, but I still can't explore the northern part of the map.

From the official forums:

Thanks so much for the save!

Unfortunately, it does look like you've run into a bug :(
Normally, Iron Marshal is hanging out down near the training area (near Barik). When turning in the side quest "Earthshaker Reinforcements," she temporarily moves next to Ceveus. After turning in that side quest, she should have moved back down to her normal spot, but somehow she's gotten stuck in a weird state where she won't move and you can't talk to her. We're having the dev team take a look at your save to try to figure out what's happened.
In the meantime, I'm sorry to say that it looks like there's no way forward from where you are, and you'll have to reload an earlier save :/ Hopefully, this time Iron Marshal will behave; if not, you might have to go back to a point before you finished "Earthshaker Reinforcements" so you can talk to her in her normal spot.

 if you're playing ironman. What reactivity!

After playing around with Lantry, I have to second that. I think I'm going to scrap my archer in favor of a mage, because mages are just so much more fun to play. That's the one great idea (okay, so spells could use more variety, and the combat system is still not fun otherwise, but still) that I'd like to see expanded to other classes. E.g. why give archers pre-made abilities like "fire arrows"? They should be crafting their own.

badler that about sums up my feedback: more of the magic system, I'm even willing to put up with engagement in combat if you expand on the magicrafting

Why didn't they use the scripted interactions from PoE? People loved those, didn't they? There was one moment in particular where
you kill a baby
that would've been heightened immensely by a scripted interaction instead of just hitting a button. You don't even get to see
the baby you're murdering!

Those would require new 2D art though.

Look at the amount of enemy recycling and the quality of the backgrounds to see what kind of budget this had.

I like the game so far (expected much worse). Mechanically it's a proper PoE spinoff, so anyone who really hated the original probably shouldn't bother.

The setting is somewhat simplistic but also more focused than in PoE where you keep hearing about the remote parts of the world that have little or no connection with the events of the game. Less lore dumps. The combat is OK, though pauses between attacks are a little too long. Spell crafting is a very nice feature - more RPGs should use it. The UI could be more convenient but it's not a big deal. The music is awesome and the voice acting is p. great - it reminds me of the IE era.

There seem to be a couple of plot stopping bugs throughout the game, depending on who you side with and which order you do the boss battles in. Please don't be a Roxor and make regular saves while progressing through the game.

Torment's aren't any better than this. We might have to wait for PoE 2 to see a good looking game in the PoE engine again.

There is one important question that was left unanswered for me. If you recruit her, can you torment Eb properly? I never got to try, since every time I defeat her she dies before she even gets to finish a sentence. She starts talking and she is dead. Bam, like that.

I wish I could've done the same with the jailbait.

So far I derived more fun from the first 30 mins of this game than from my entire POE playthrough. I really like the atmosphere.
