How in the name of God do you beat Ascension Hall fight on PotD. It isn't even close.
- Prebuff (illusion school). Give all characters heal and buff spells, they're only about 20 Lore req?
- Eat most powerful foods (like berries for dodge and coke for +4 might)
- Pass Lore check to get rid of one of the sages. You're now 5 on 4 I believe. Eat Mushroom if not enough lore.
- Buy time with Barik's petrify ability.
- Focus down someone dangerous, like a rogue. Or just someone who wasn't petrified. Blow all your spells from Lantry - he'll get drowned anyway by Eb. You're now 4 on 4 - almost fair (minus overpowered stats)
- Focus archer.
- Deal with the rest.

You haven't even played the damn game nevertheless you say it's not worth playing. What the fuck ?!?
Game is quite good by the way. It's good for what it is.

:nocountryforshitposters:

Yeah, there we go, target audience for the game right there. Tyranny is a game for you if you happen to be a dumbfuck newfag with serious reading comprehension issues.

Protip: I'm not a professional gaming journalist, I actually play through the games I review and critique.

Using the inks during one of Lantry's interjections is interesting (buried in the green mouse-over text, there, too). So far I'm enjoying the companion interjections, and Sirin has grown on me (her actual dialogue is pretty good, and she has some neat backstory). Not a bad game so far, we'll see if the ending is as underwhelming/abrupt as people say.

Is there a way to reduce graphics quality like particles and shadows from .ini files or something? I installed the game on my old laptop too, but the fps is abysmal on it.

Looking at the game files, it turns out that all the skill checks are level scaled. Hardly a surprise, but it's a highly unusual design choice; not even Fallout 3 did that.
This is common practice in PnP so I don't see a problem. People mistake well done level scaling with badly done level scaling. BG2 had good one, Oblivion and Skyrim had terrible.
Common practice in bad games/groups.
Nope. Bad practice is letting players get bored because of lack of challenge.
Challenge comes from tackling harder stuff, not making easy stuff hard.
Harder stuff is just a bit of different description with bigger numbers. You are being a bit retarded now about something very simple. A good GM can sell a challenging goblin to a party if he wants and a bad GM will make a Dragon look terrible.

That's not level scaling. It's encounter design.

Level scaling means things directly scaling to the player's level (or area it's encountered).

So I've tried this game and oh boy, what a mess.

I haven't played much, but the only positive thing I can say about it is that the setting is ok to quite interesting in some parts. But then again, the story is executed very poorly.
You know you're following a shitty video game plot when there's a scene where the leader of a friendly army says to your character: "you go ahead and we'll guard the rear". How about: "fuck you, I'll skip the glory and just watch you soldiers do your fucking job from behind, just this once". I can't say that? No? Thought so.

Well, maybe this forcing you to be first into a breach situation wouldn't be so bad if the combat wasn't a stinking pile of shit, but unfortunately it is. Not gonna even mention cooldowns, but engagement system doesn't do what it is suppose to do, enemies are all suicidal HP sponges and nothing obstructs range attacks so maintaining a frontline and a backline is impossible. Srsly, this game should be playing Benny Hill chase music whenever combat starts, because that's what I can actually hear in my head when I watch what's going on on the screen. Maybe this changes in later parts of the game, on top of shitty combat there's shitty encounter design. Basically, for whole act I you fight 3 types of dudes (heavy dude with 2H sword, bow dude and javelin dude) with occasional mage thrown in the mix. But that's it, same shit over and over again. I know not every game can be BG2 where even the tutorial dungeon throws everything from kobolds and sewage monsters to a cambion against you, but come on, not the same shit over and over and over again.

Ok, I also liked the dialog system: that mouse over text that tells what your character should realistically know while being part of this world + some additional gimmicks is welcomed addition, because you don't need to roleplay an amnesiac or a moron if you want to learn something about the setting.

But overall: banal, shit, boring.

If your builds are right - it's doable even without the prebuffing stuff. Prebuffing & heavy consumable usage is only needed for the threacherous resolution (i.e., the one where there's another fight after that). The common is not that difficult (the comments are in russian, but you can just skim through to see how it's done):

the game is pretty good. it's written better than pillars, the encounter design is better.

but combat are worse because more simplified mechanics.

the settings is better than pillars too in general
Encounter design is better??? Are you kidding me man??? There are like 3 types of enemies in the entire game! They just throw small groups of enemies at you (3-5 tops). They do it one minute after you started the game, they do the same just before you finish it. And dont get me started on the God damn "dungeons" where the only enemy is "bane".

Much less confusing imho. It's a lot easier to plan out your dungeon diving strategy when you know you'll only be fighting one type of enemy.

2 mages is way easier, I didn't have any trouble either on my first playthrough with a mage, and she was extremely shitty built - no accuracy and "trap" support schools as main picks. Thankfully I wasn't dumb enough to not pump Lore to max so it helped a lot as I slowly switched to cold/illusion and spells like that.

My second char is agility/might anarchist with 2 handed spear (basically PoE barbarian) minmaxed for damage and I hit for 20-30 damage and 50 crits on average, while potd melee enemies graze for 40. I rushed to Sirin because Censor fight in Burning Library (first act 2 area for a rogue fatebinder) completely stonewalled me.

tbh bane enemies with just Lantry were also a pain in the ass for almost full "physical" party with no spells. (obviously killed Eb because fuck naruto.)

Yeah I have no AoE to speak of. Didn't care for magic. So I am pretty much in a 4v6 fair fight.
PC is throwing that does maybe 15 damage a round with maxed might. :argh: while random rogue does 20-30 regularly.

So the conclusion is basically play mage to complete PotD?

Nothing can be more convincing than a video but why don't enemies in your game move when you Icicle Storm/Fulminate them? In my game they run around all the time so hitting 3 targets with the same cone is impossible.

I'm at Matani Sybil (Echocall Village boss) and I cannot repeat what you did in the video due to enemies always moving. Also how do you crit anything on PotD? I have 19 Finesse on my main and my rolls are still never in the crit range. Finally, why does you Icicle Storm proc Magefire?

So, any tips for mere mortals on how to to come a little bit closer to your godly performance?

Finesse barely makes a difference for crit; your base crit chance is virtually always in the 5-15% range.
