In the Junkyard, currently wary to do missions for anyone because it'll probably lock me out of the other faction. I guess I'll have to choose one, or maybe I'll find a way to find the drill part on my own.

I have a weird issue where I have to alt tab the game repeatedly until it works every time I open it. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yeah I do as well. You open it up and when you try and click on the screen it tabs you back to your desktop right? I just ignored it.

I've been pretty uniform in how I level up so far. When should I stop and put some points in other things? I could probably get away with skipping lockpicking and traps for a few levels maybe. Dodge/evasion seem essential though, when do I stop leveling them up? Never? Can't skip hacking either. Not having throwing skills has been pretty bad for me in particular. Wish I had gone guns/throwing instead of guns/melee really. And yeah I'm pretty shit at everything else. I can't do anything with most items I encounter, and I might want to change that. Should I Maybe invest in biology, chemistry or tailoring at some point?

The game has been pretty hard (exploring Junkyard Depot A now) but it has not been impossible, but I'm still fairly sure I'm screwing up the build becase I've had to be a kinda cheesy with some of the most fucked up battles (like leaving the level to heal and going back... I feel bad about it).

Dodge and evasion is essential, BUT, you need to make sure that you're getting the right feats with it and using the correct armor. You can't use armors with high armor penalties. You need to make sure your armor penalty stays as close to 0 as possible. This is where crafting comes in, or, you could alternatively get a unique item from a quest that's really good throughout the whole game. There is a feat you can get that lowers your armor penalty by 15% and gives you a bonus if you're at 0 penalty; I recommend getting it if you're going to be leveling dodge and evasion. And yes, you always max dodge and evasion.
Not having throwing skills has been pretty bad for me in particular.
It sucks sometimes having to reload a fight cause you fucked up that one grenade throw, but I made due. You can level it until your throwing ability isn't shit if you want, but it never really bothered me enough to bother in my skill point hungry builds.

If you want to craft some of the best armors in the game in regards to dodge and evasion, you'll need really high tailoring. This is an example of some OP ass armor with really high quality.

You can do this with the other kinds of armors as well. As you can see, it requires extremely high tailoring. I don't know off the top of my head, so check the wiki to see if you need to level mechanics/chem/bio/electricity to craft the other components such as the helmet and torso piece. You might need it if you want to add certain component. Feel free to ask if something is unclear.

Eh, you'll get into some tough situations where you have to cheese. Save often and save in different slots, because it's entirely possible to get caught in an unwinnable situation. Its almost happened to me before. Of course, your build might not be viable. Usually you know by the time you hit Depot A, but sometimes it takes getting to the Foundry or Rail Crossing and facing the Ironheads to realize you're fucked. If that's the case, don't hesitate to restart. It depends on you, but I usually just rage quit a game if I have to restart; but something about Underrail is so fun and unique that I don't get that vibe at all and actually want to restart sometimes just to try a new build.

Thanks for the hints. I'll be ok if I have to restart because it really is insanely fun. Also I just want to say that molotovs are insanely powerful, been using plenty to get through this area and it's always beautiful when I manage to lure a lot of enemies and catch them together.

Yeah, putting points in both guns and melee is basically never a good idea. They need different stats and different feats so they don't work together at all. It's much simpler to just pick one weapon type and stick with it.

You definitely want mechanics and tailoring at the very least, since crafted guns/armour are a huge upgrade over the regular stuff. Electronics is really good too, especially if you're using a weapon type that benefits from smart modules (and you probably are). Chemistry and biology aren't vital but they're still good. Crafting is really really powerful in this game.

I feel I should point out that infused leather got nerfed, so you can't make boots this good anymore. But it's still good so take tailoring anyway.

The game is a black hole. It's 4am and I had to force myself to quit. I seriously need to sleep now.

Also crafted shields are way better than store shields.

Currently trying to kill a death stalker but it's nearly impossible currently. Maybe gonna try to set lots of traps. Molotovs seem to really upset it too. Maybe gonna spam them, but I don't have enough right now.

And it heals too. This might just be impossible for my character.

This was my strategy:

I was trying to use the rathounds as cover since in that spot the DS can't attack me. I was gonna throw molotovs/grenades at it until it died, but the heal overcomes everything and the rathounds die too soon. My chance to hit is 40% or below too with all my weapons so I'll just give up on this guy.

Also it can show up in a way that really creeps me out, coming from nowhere to attack me and climbing up to the ceiling and disappearing. What is this, Alien?

Will try it. Thanks.

In better news, I ironically killed the Rathound King by spamming traps outside of his lair where he couldn't see. I put like 6 frag mines in close proximity of one another and that is where he died. How funny.

For the ancient rathound, I put a sequence of burrower poison traps on the floor so it was constantly trapped while I shot at it.

I'm consistently disappointed with the damage/chance to hit that I get from my guns, but at least the traps are awesome. The King provided me with the very traps that I killed him with too.

Crafting guns is really important, and so is having a high perception; as well as using the right bullets.

I got caught in that exact area actually; took a bunch of reloads to finally get it. And the stalkers are done really well, better than a lot of fucking horror games. Caltrops are your best friends when it comes to hordes of enemies, as they really help with kiting. Sprint is an awesome feat for that as well.

Alright. You've convinced me. I'll try crafting guns and armor.

Also just dealt with the burrowers in Camp Hathor by flooding them. That was great.

Your SMG is broken and has lowered chance to hit. But chance ot hit tends to be a bit low in the early game in general and death stalkers have really high evasion. Try installing gun mods that increase it (laser sight, standard scope, compensator, etc.), try to light up dark areas with flares/molotovs (or better yet, craft/find/buy night vision goggles, ranged build's best friend). You can also bring the death stalker's evasion to 0 if you manage to lure him in a bear trap or immobilize him by any other means.

Dodge and evasion is essential.[/QUOTE]

Nah, I wouldn't call Dodge/Evasion essential. I never put (many) points in them in stealth/crafting builds, and I do well.

The usefulness of Dodge/Evasion is probably much enhanced for other types of builds, though.

Great day today. The bear trap hint worked! How humiliating that a mighty creature like the Death Stalker can be taken down so easily by bear traps.

Here's how it went down:

First of all, whenever I fought the rathounds in this cave, the stalker would come along to kill me, so I had to stealth through it the first time I went through it. I needed a way to stop the DS so I could deal with the rathounds first. I found out where it always came from, and planted the bear traps there:

APB9n0k.jpg

Almost as soon as I entered combat with the rathounds, the stalker fell into the first trap. Next I had to clear out the rathounds before the stalker got through my traps. I finished them off quickly enough that there were still a lot of traps left:

Then it was a matter of shooting it until it died. Behold:

I did it! That was awesome.

Wanted to solve the Buzzer's shop crisis via hacking the auto turrets but I found no working security console. The quest seems to lack this option, guess I'll just have to try and kill them or something.

Edit: never mind, I'm dumb.

There are other ways to solve it. That is all I will say.

There is a way to turn on the turrets, I had just missed it. I shouldn't doubt the game.

The plot thickens... I'm actually very pleasantly surprised with the story and worldbuilding of the game so far.

How do I make sniper rifles work decently? I found one called Dragunov which looks great, but I have low precision, in general lower than my SMG. It's in perfect condition and my guns skill is fairly high [70 (99) atm].
