Imagine seeing the demo for the pizza 10 years ago (yes, Unknown Realm is that old by now) and giving the chef 1/4 million USD (there were two fundraiser campaigns) to make it

Did they raise $250,000+ for the KS and secure other funding?

Yeah, 126K on Kickstarter, about the same on megafounder or something. Plus whatever they raked in with their membership thing and donations.

Damn this game will be so great.

Edit: the dice is telling otherwise

Do you have a link to the megafounder campaign?

Boingkid didn't do well. I wonder if he made it into Unknown Realms?

It is all connected! Don't you see the pieces of this Unknown Conspiracy.

You'll NEVER see this game, but you will see "another company" create "another game." WINK WINK.

Oh.. I just remembered Bruce said he'll show the box art for the game in the next few days. On April 1st he posted it:

...

...

Fans: Hey it would be cool if you could show what you did in the five after the game was supposed to be released
SDG: okay already, I'll show the box art :smug::smug::smug:

I really wonder why the people are a bit salty by now :)

Fake news! He says a 12 year old artist but that is art he or his wife did. Dunno why he'd lie about that. It'd take a video of the 12 year old drawing it to convince me otherwise.

I'd bring up Richard Garriott's mother doing a rendering of the prototype box Ultima III.

Nothing wrong if your art skill isn't up to par. That's why you hire artists if you want better.

I agree, I have no idea why he would lie and say that was drawn by a 12 year old.

It was obviously drawn by a 6 year old.

Of course! Fools don't do shit for free unless the platform can't get them plenty of work opportunities.

anyway. JUST the KS backers:
1,246 Backers

x the rewards... page (backers divided throughout)

https://www.kickstarter.com/project...m-an-8bit-rpg-for-pc-and-commodore-64/rewards

I've seen a lot of progressive tiers but that looks like a clusterfuck. It is like tiers were added on at various times. They're a bit all over the place and the physical tiers will probably destroy them which it probably did. Examine EACH physical aspect and how many they have to manufacture. The digital are no brainers easy.

I've supported KS and as soon as they were funded and success the pdf or digital was released. Physical backers had to wait and in some cases those were shipped within a week. Such KS merely wanted the product on a platform to increase their popularity or get their name out there.

Then there are others that have NOTHING done but an idea they know people will glomp onto. The KS succeeds and they run with the money.

..... and others fall in between....

At what end is this project? Compared to Cleve's work it is barely a toddler.

Remember when they said they'll release the game when people send additional money in 2020?
Of course they didn't say if they've met their new goal. I still believe in the 2020 release!

btw, if you're reading this, Bruce - it is not about the game, it is about how you treat the people.

This is true.

Back in 1985 Richard Garriott released Ultima IV after being little more than a year development. He outsourced the composing of the music and some of the art, but he handled the programming alone.

Back in 2012 Bruce showed the demo for Unknown Realms, "almost finished" in five years of development and collected money 1/4 of a million dollars for the last finishing touches. He also outsourced the music and some of the art but failed to deliver anything after 10 years of development :(

So yes, his tweet is kinda accurate - it neeeds 10x the time and money than it did in 1985 =)
