Is there some kind of difference between the US and EU versions of The Witcher because I don't think I've ever had to use the game disc outside of installation...

Original version (2007) + Patch 1.4 -> no disk check
Enhanced Edition (2008) + Patch 1.5 -> no disk check

I think they should sell a "The Witcher: Super Enhanced Platinum Diamond Edition" that has some graphic updates, a few more quests, some mods, some fan-content, re-re-retranslatated dialogue, some new voice-acting lines and a little plastic vagina in the box.

no shit, it's the trend man, they're doing it like the big boys: Collectors / Gold / Platinum / Diamond / FR Pack and the collections Atari Collection: Rollenspiele (2005), Neverwinter Nights 2: Lawful Good Edition (2006), Neverwinter Nights 2: Chaotic Evil Edition (2006), Ultimate Dungeons & Dragons (2006), Rollenspiele: Deluxe Edition (2007) and Neverwinter Nights 3-Pack (2007) all were released containing copies of Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark, as well.

They are in a position that warrants doing it, being big boys as you say and having released already a body of games. This is a little different of milking your first product, though I suppose it is acceptable for an upstart company, if a little arrogant.

(See, I'd rather they made expansions than these "revised editions" - I feel more work goes into those.)

How is it arrogant to keep yourself afloat on your first game as long as possible? It's not even like they're double dipping on the game with DLC or paid-for patches, they're just trying to stay in the public eye

Because it's arrogant? They've made a mediocre game, where 50% of content is MMORPG quests and retarded sex encounters for 12 years olds and hype it like the best thing to ever happen to the undead RPG genre?
"My god can you believe it? We are releasing something that should've been in the game from the start FOR FREE! Yay! Best reaches perfection"

It's not even like they're double dipping on the game with DLC or paid-for patches
For real man - CDP is like the shining beacon of hope in the endless sea of paid-for patches.

they're just trying to stay in the public eye
Yes - while doing nothing else.

Yeah, nothing. I'm sure that's what they're up to. They just go to work and I dunno, sit around and do nothing all day.

Okay so just so I can give myself some perspective here is their list of crimes:
-released a game that you don't like
-their pr department had the nerve to say that it's a good game
-continue to support the game after release even though you didn't like it

what a bunch of bastards
