Make the Codex Great Again!
Just tried it some more today with the new Free Aim feature. It's actually pretty good, as I hated the original shooting mechanics where certain weapons could only fire in specific directions. One thing that surprised me was the metagame. Squad members already start off pretty competent. You can promote them to upgrade their stats, but even from the beginning, they should already be pretty good in their specialised stats. I'm curious to see how stat increments in non-specialised areas will affect late-game stages.

No interceptors, much less emphasis on base building in general, though there is some strategic layer (in the campaign), on the other hand there is much more focus on the operatives. I would say the game is somewhat closer to JA2 then (open) Xcom.

Played the game on highest difficulty, focused completely on basebuilding and painted the base map from one end to another to maximally optimise ore collecting and refining.
That gives you stupidly high amount of resources which you can use to raise rep with certain factions, obtain late game recipes from the start and craft end game gear with tier V mods.

Then just gotta spam ammo production.

Overall game is really good, but gets repetitive.

I read somewhere that game has you control large teams instead of small like JA2. I was hoping it was also deadly like Open Xcom.

This looks pretty good on paper, but Steam reviews say otherwise. What’s the story?

I dropped it cause i've spent a lot of time restarting the first few missions before i've figured out how it should be played and pretty much got tired of playing it by that point.

Its pretty complex + you have almost everything(?) unlocked at the start, and missions are mostly 3 in a row. (At least on max difficulty). Like you have to meticulously pick, level up and equip a team of 12(or is it 18?) soldiers so that they would last 3 missions in a row without resupply, except the stuff you pick on a map. Restarted a lot before i managed to not get rekt on mission 2 out of 3. And because many starting soldiers are already high level and most of the weapons are already available - it doesn't seem like you get much rewards for completing the mission.

I guess it may be compared to starting nuxcom game in late game, or starting battle brothers game at day 100.

Though maybe i just wasn't in the mood.

Seems like a pretty dumb design. On the other hand it’s not something that is impossibly hard to fix. Is this a widely acknowledged problem amongst the playerbase?

No idea. Though i guess people who played it a lot during early access wouldn't necessarily share my opinion cause they would already know how it should be played.
