Good review, VD! I had been looking forward to this one for some time. As was said above, I wish it was longer but that's just because I wanted to read more than the 5000+.

Thanks for the review - good stuff and pretty much sums up the hivemind impression of the game I've been seeing in forums: a decent game but not much to do with the original FO games.

For some people that would be a dealbreaker but personally I don't mind.

Looking forward to playing some more once my system gets back from repair...

It was a pretty good review but didn't really talk about some of the hollow choice and consequences options in the main quest which I thought was one of the bigger things wrong with it.

There were a few critical parts of the game that had choice and consequences in the dialog but so horribly written that it fucked the whole thing up and I wanted to cry.

He obviously cut down on the bitter irony in favor of objectivity. Fair review overall, but less entertaining than the famed Oblivion dissection.

Only part I can't follow is the final conclusion: it seems far too positive in light of the glaring faults mentioned throughout the review.
This.

Lacking, but good review nonetheless, as well as much more likely to be received well by the dumb.

I wish you mentioned the lack of "Violence Level". You can play the originals without seeing one drop of blood or bodies bursting open or burning down if you don't want any part of it, ie Fallout not being about graphic violence. As opposed to FO3.

You can just fast travel and your father will fast travel, too.

Didn't work that way for me. I fast travelled to Rivet City and daddy was about a third of the way when I arrived. I then fast travelled back and forth to Megaton until dear old dad arrived near Rivet City. Then I escorted him to Rivet City, which wasn't a straight shot because dad decided to kill some supermutants along the way.

I'm pretty sure I saw some "forcing" %. Anyway, I prefer fixed skill check values that force you to invest into a skill to "success %" inviting reloads.

Yeah, but still, where's the "Beating the Lock to Death" option. I got a Super Sledge, a locked metal box would be no match for that thing.

One thing that bugs me is that the game has havoc physics, but I can't smash through boards or wooden shelves barring my way. I also can't beat up swing traps until the chain breaks. If it's got havoc physics, things like that would have been nice.

You have to use the wait command once you arrive. I did the same with a couple of other quests, like the slaves making their way to the Lincoln Memorial - they decided to take a Wasteland World Tour and have all the non-essential members of their party brutally killed over the course of five in-game days instead of just going directly there.

I had a problem too and thought I would have to run with him which would have been retarded so I just went to the destination and talked to someone and he showed up when his dialogue was needing I think.

I tried waiting eight hours and he didn't seem to move, so I just kept fast travelling, and he started moving on the map.

I think it's when you push "T" and then select the number of hours to wait.
Your version not have a manual?

As for your father, I found that he wasn't at Rivet City when I turned up, but as soon as I entered he "teleported" in beside me. I find that works quite often. As soon as a new cell is loaded any follower will suddenly appear beside me regardless of where he was (e.g. hooked up on the landscape somewhere).

Yeah but that was stupid. Ditto for the language filter.
