Even as an idea, Muv-Luv is pretty cool in a really fucked up way. You have game developer who has this life-long dream of making a hard-core military mecha game. So they spend years making crappy porn games to raise funds, then blow it all in a crazy ambitious project that combines their expertise in crappy porn and their secret passion for mecha porn. No sane person would even think of such a thing, not to mention making it happen (and succeeding with it).

BTW, there is a new VN coming up in the same setting.

The story follows the East German Army's666th TSF Squadronin its battles and political conflicts during the BETA's westward push in 1983.

The East German Army 666th TSF Squadron "Schwarzesmarken" (Black Marks) are a special-forces unit tasked with assaultingBETAforces through unconventional tactics; specifically, they target Lux and Magnus Lux to deny the BETA the advantage of ranged firepower. Their orders are given the topmost priority, such that it is common practice for the 666th to ignore allied distress calls that will result in deviation from their original mission, even if only for a short moment.

Oh Japan...

Total Eclipse is a little bit better as VN, but the story isn't that appealing.

Schwarzesmarken is quite different. From what I saw from the first novel it seems much darker and focused on soldiering. And considering the setting, the early stages of the war are rather... grim. Soldiers meeting a BETA charge with bayonets, lol. And political officers (more like comissars, really) deployed even in tactical units. Not to mention drugging up pilots so they can cope up with the psychological stress.

Probably will go the usual redemption and love route later, but at least it starts with hatred and disgust.

One thing I never understand is how the Muv-Luv spin-offs have all those character designs with massive tits while the original is the only porn one but the girls are pretty bland

Because the original trilogy was a work of love whilst the spin-offs are just money making exercises.

What a waste.

Why would you draw on some sort of soviet background for a VN and then make it a generic Japanese high school VN?

Set it in a gulag or something

Are the Umineko games worth buying? I found an import shop that's got them for a good price, but still not exactly cheap. I haven't played any of the other games though, so I don't know if they are any good.

Probably because the biggest appeal of entertainment in Russia is escapism.

Looking at stuff they have released so far, this is as generic jap-wannabe weaboo shit as it gets. They should've kept the music guys from Summer. Just listen to this:

I bet RK47 will be delighted to LP this one after all the fun he had with Katawa Shoujo. :troll:

LundB's latest modesty mod?
My work is generally less stylized, more photo-sourced or at least based on real clothing or clothing the character has ingame.

This must be the work one of my and Berzee's many brothers in our struggle. I'm glad someone else is fighting the good fight.

Will the chinese save visual novels from the disgusting SJW OELVN twine game menace?

Getting a girl-friend before Gaokao(National College Entrance Exam), I know it's crazy, but from today, we will face everything together.
Is there still room for love in this 100 days, or am I just ruining my life, or worse, her life?

This is a dating simulation game based on Chinese students' real life.
You can have romantic relationship with classmates,
but remember that you have just 100 days while preparing for "Gaokao".

I was never really into Japanese culture or anything like that until my wife and I lived with an Anime/Japanophile for a while. I was exposed to a few things I missed my entire life - Akira! - Ghost in the Shell! Etc. JRPGs I never much got into except the Final Fantasy rebooted MMO for a while until I got bored with that like every MMO.

I do like to try the occasional JRPG or visual novel though, just picked up a visual novel called The Fruit of Grisaia. Interestingly enough I got it on Steam and my virus-scan program detected an "Agent5" trojan in it, removed it, and that was the last I heard but still... first time that happened with a Steam game. Anyone go through this? Is it a decent visual novel for the genre?

Any others to recommend? Mainly interested in good plot. My tastes are all over the place. Anyone play through this novel?

Finally got down to Dies Irae, I think I'm only 1/4 through first route or so but it's been a lot of fun already. Exactly what I wanted/expected, over-the-top pretentious fantasy shounen thing with SoL/comedy to boot, a power-upped FSN. How can my Nazis be so moe?

I don't really play visual novels but I can recommend ghost trick if you want something with a good plot. You can get it on ios or just emulate it. Though the emulated version has more aliasing.
