Tennocon 2019. Interested to see how this affects the new player experience and the sentiment around it. Going from Duviri into the starchart would probably be quite jarring versus the other way around.

This dropped yesterday, I played through the quest, and it's mostly inoffensive. It's basically an introduction to the game modes of this update, which makes sense, since it's supposed to be the new start for many new players. I'm not really a fan of games with this kind of slow but reaction-based combat the drifter has*, but that was something I knew before. The conclusion of this story felt kind of stupid to me, but whatever. The world looks relatively interesting, though much is just set dressing, but I wait for any judgment on this front until I had more time with it. Of course, it's there to farm resources for some of the new weapons, and also those incarnon adaptors seem to need those.

Of the new remaining game modes, I can't play the Steel Path version of the "Circuit" where you get the adapters, because I didn't do what I said I'd do, which means I've still not done the New War. On normal mode, you can farm some of the frames in a more structured way. This should be interesting to try with some of the frames that are hidden behind annoying farms in the normal game. Let's hope it's a bit more interesting. Of the three picks from this week, Trinity would fit that category, so I might try my luck, if I find the time.

Regarding the slow drifter combat, this may get better with leveled intrinsics and if you stay long enough in the open world to stack lots of decrees. I've seen someone play for a longer session, and they were much faster than that horse with their drifter. In the end, it looked not that far off from warframe combat, but it seems to take work to get there, and you may have to put that work in every time you start over. Too early to tell for me.

In this case, the "slow" gets emphasized, because your drifter gameplay is mixed up with warframe gameplay. I chose Mag as my "starter" frame (during the quest, you get the choice between the same three frames as in the normal start), and as I know how to move with a warframe, this was very fast-paced. And the next moment you are thrown back to moving like molasses. Rinse and repeat. For a completely new player who doesn't bullet jump around on the map this may be less of an issue.

Bugframe rears its head. Tried the Circuit, am stuck between missions 3 and 4. Look at forums, seems to be the standard outcome.

Naturally, you lose all rewards and all progress of all prior missions. Naturally.
Feels like Railjack...

I really like Duviri so far. Enemies have telegraphed mechanics that work really well. The random aspect of it gives you reason to build up your arsenal as a whole instead of treating 90% of it as MR fodder because you might actually be using it. It also solved the power creep problem and enemies actually pose a threat for the first time in years.

The world gets much less dangerous as you get your operator intrinsics and it speeds up the game again but I've looked at the intrinsics and compared to where I am now (rank 5), it doesn't add all that much.

There's one decree that gives you +10% speed for every future decree, which is the one that adds up to ridiculous amounts if you keep going.

Anyway, Circuit is fixed. I expect this to get boring quickly, but then again, that's not really anything new, except for the reward system that comes with it. As expected, if you only get horrible weapons, things get hairy, though it's not really difficult. The default loadouts for weapons I don't have seem to be pretty good. The way you try new warframes is also nice (I guess less so if you have all of them). Excellent focus farm for pre-New War peasants like me, too.

I have to try the actual Drifter content more though. Does this actually work in public lobbies, or does it end up horribly, like free roam in other worlds?

real-time upgrades like EVE Online were a great idea. shame more games don't use the mechanic, it really adds to your feeling of accomplishment

After being charmed by watching some rando YT gamer making his first steps in Warframe, I was inspired to start a completely new character and run through the new player experience.

Damn, but the fluidity of avatar control in this game is something else, I'd forgotten how much fun it is.

I can't see myself going through all the grind again (plus if I wanted to grind, I have a fairly well-developed char with a zillion warframes and weps from a few years ago that I could pick up where it left off) and I do think the game lost the plot quite some time ago by larding over so many unfinished grinds and exploding the story into all sorts of incoherent directions.

But the core gameplay is and always will be * mmmwah *.

Very much agreed on both counts.

I haven't played a lot of online games but after falling in love with Warframe years ago I've tried Destiny, Division, Anthem, Overwatch and Titanfall and Warframe stands so much head and shoulders above the rest it's almost embarrassing (ok Titanfall 2 was actually fun.)

Can't understand how can anyone keep playing all these when there's a clearly superior option.

If Warframe was released as a SP campaign with mission format, would be the best 3rd Person Shooter-Melee game ever.

It has:
- variety in locations, enemies and missions (I´m a big fan of the infiltration mission with puzzle vaults, best sensation of being a ninja spy ever)
- Fantastic art and aesthetics- Good graphics
- Best 3rd person movement ever, great shooting, satisfying melee and cool powers.
- Depth in the customization of weapons, armor and character.

But they chose to make a degenerate MP grinding game. Still worth playing of course.

heh, i wish it was true. despite mods being in the hundred and more, in the end those truly worthwhile are ten, maybe 15. they had at least two chances to rework everything, but in the end they always chickened out in fear of displeasing whales who spent exactly to abuse the system, not to have a fun game. DE brought it onto themselves.

it lost it the moment it tried to add it. it makes no sense. "you're a space ninja pirate" was more than enough.

I thought up to the introduction of planets and the Second Dream (which I thought was a really well-done cinematic quest), it was fine. A lot was explained in a way that kind of made sense. You're a kid from a space tragedy who got superpowers from space magic and was imprisoned in a "dream," which was actually you fighting a war teleoperating warframes (that had affinities with your superpowers) Avatar-style. That made sense, and it was quite enough to answer most of the questions I had at the beginning. We could have had more planets of different kinds, that would have been fine. Maybe the railjack, which was very cool in concept at least. But I'd rather you'd just remained the dweeb jacked into the chair at the back of the spaceship, rather than having some new pointless progression system. And from what I can gather since then, the story and lore have ballooned into a whole bunch of new characters, factions, etc., and revisions that nobody cares about, with new mechanics depending on new grinds that are very variable in quality.

I think it's two things: the pressure to keep the game going by adding new things, and a kind of reliance on the "mystery box" school of storytelling. They should have put a fork in it and developed something new years ago. You could tell from the devstreams that they were tired sick of the bloody thing anyway.

to me that's the point of no return from retardation. it's akira, it's evangelion, it's a lot of stuff stolen here and there, what it's not: warframe. you went from "space ninja pirate", the very definition of rule of cool, to immortal invincible invulnerable magical kid with magical powers coming from magical entities. suddenly, octavia is creamy mami, limbo is magical emi. there's no way in hell all this shit can be taken seriously anymore. not that they would realize, in fact they went in full force, evil midget & fatso, the dysfunctional family, lechuck... and then, insult to injury, "do you know how the strength of warframe is going in 5 minutes, doing a mission and then out to something else? fuck off, we'll take control out of your hands for ten hours or more with the worst gameplay ever, and you can't go back to your game, if you started you're fucked, because fuck you that's why".

That's the best said I've seen. Yes, the tumble down to retardation narrative-wise is sad but also the change of tone, from sharp and savvy to mami and emi. Like everything in this day and age.

It's not as if the Evangelion/Avatar idea is proprietary, it's been around for ages as a proposed technological possibility. They had to explain the situation with having different warframes yet them not being literal battle suits that you as a physical player get in and out of at some point, and the idea of teleoperation is good enough. The origin story of them being kids when they got their superpowers was fine, but it would have been less faggoty, and less of a ripoff of other product, if you were now an adult (slow growth in stasis or something), or hell, even just a brain in a vat by that stage.

I think also, because the warframe suit designs were getting wild and whacky, at some point it was no longer feasible that they were battle suits/exoskeletons. Like Excalibur, Mag, Volt, those could tolerably be thought of as battle suits or exoskeletons or something like that, but by the time you're getting to, say, Banshee, that idea's getting more and more untenable. Same with the powers - early, on, you could think of them as abilities tied to the suits, but at some point (say Nyx or Nova) you're looking at something much more obviously like superpowers or space magic of some kind. Again, this is the pressure from having to keep regularly introducing new warframes to milk the game beyond its sell-by date.

The faggoty stuff really started coming in with the fan art, and the devs probably leaned into it because they thought it was "building community," but it just turned the game in more and more of a lame direction. Essentially it was a game that, for better (popularity) and worse (faggoty direction) caught on with the Tumblr generation.

So, those last content patches, New War, Durviri, Deimos and the ship content, are they better than the Star Chart and playable for solo players? I checked out before of those.

The Star Chart was basically a 5 hours demo stretched to 50 hours, I was having PTSD at the end of it after realizing that "Cool weapon: Needs 5000 space herpes nucleotides" and you need to do that shit over and over again to get it, that shit was unplayable after 5 hours without a clan to keep you from going into depression.

I did all that shit only to realize my remaining options were: a) do the same shit maps again but harder and b)go into story missions, shoot some flying triangles while listening to some animu gibberish.
