Being evil in this game didn't affect me. In the original Fallouts (and other good RPGs), I'd feel guilty for doing questionable things, but FO3 is so bad that I feel rather like I'm traipsing through a wax museum melting mannequins.

Also, to the OP: download mods to make children killable because I know you're too kind of a person to force us to suffer Little Lamplight with nary a chance at vengeance; shooting those little shit NPCs is kind of like getting back at Bethesda.

The description for the Seducing Moira Mod:
may I present to you Seducing Moira - At last, a use for the Lady Killer perk! Of course, getting a little closer to Ms. Brown isn't simply a matter of choosing the [Lady Killer] option from the dialogue menu (this is Moira we're talking about, after all). First of all, to even get the option, you're going to have to help her finish her damn book. And once that's out of the way, you'll face a speech challenge to see if she falls for your charms, but the more brainy types might be able to persuade her of the scientific merit of the idea. Choose your option carefully, you only get to try this once a day. And finally, once you do get her to the bedroom, she's going to rate your performance, which is calculated using a certain combination of appropriate stats and skills. If you can completely satisfy her, there's 50 XP a time in it for you!

Part 9 – Nosferatu

Remember Lucy West?
314.jpg

i3.jpg
She used to live in Megaton before she got herself killed in the big explosion...

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

i3.jpg
However, before her body was destroyed in the nuclear explosion, she gave us a fairly generic FedEx quest.

315.jpg

Here’s the letter she told us to deliver to her parents.
FACT: The game doesn’t allow us to open it or read the letter.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Who cares? That bitch is dead.

i3.jpg
Well, we could still deliver the letter anyway. I mean, what’s the harm in that? We might meet some interesting people along the way.

i3.jpg
Plus, after we deliver the letter to her parents, we can gloat to them about how we blew up their daughter.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
 :D

So, we leave Tenpenny Tower and head to Arefu.
316.jpg

We’re approaching the seemingly peaceful settlement of Arefu, when...

317.jpg

All of a sudden, there’s a small explosion right in front of our face.

318.jpg

This guy is the leader of Arefu.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
WTF man? Why you throw grenade at us without warning?

i3.jpg
Whatever. Let’s just give this guy Lucy’s letter and leave.

319.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Let me guess: Your town is being attacked by some stupid gang and you need our help. :sigh:

320.jpg

321.jpg

Notice the wording he uses when he refers to the Brahmin as ‘lifeblood’.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
And, you need our help, right?

322.jpg

FACT: There are three houses in this settlement. We need to check up on all of them.

323.jpg

Here’s the first person we need to check up on.

324.jpg

Here’s the second. Both of these people seem like they're ok.

325.jpg

However, as we enter the third house, we find two dead bodies.
These are Lucy’s parents. We were supposed to deliver the letter to them.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Hey, didn’t Evan King suggest that the gang attacked the town just a few hours ago?

i3.jpg
Yeah.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Well, then why the fuck do these bodies look like they’ve already almost completely decomposed?

i3.jpg
I don’t know. That’s kinda silly.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Maybe we should try to analyze the bodies a bit more closely.

326.jpg

FACT: You need a medicine skill of at least 30 to make this diagnosis.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

i3.jpg
Please tell me there aren’t any vampires in Fallout. Please?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg

If you had a Medicine skill of at least 60, you could also diagnose that these bite marks were created by human teeth. Unfortunately, our medicine skill is not that high.

Anyway, we go back to Evan King and inform him of the dead bodies we found:
327.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Also, the dead bodies had bite marks on their necks.

328.jpg

FACT: Evan King is a moron.

i3.jpg
Why do I get the feeling the actual answer is gonna be much sillier than ‘attack dogs’?

329.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Nope. We just found two middle-aged dead bodies.

i3.jpg
So, I guess that means the kid is still alive?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Maybe the gangsters kidnapped him.

330.jpg

i3.jpg
Do we really have to?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
C’mon. Maybe we’ll get to meet some vampires!!

i3.jpg
...

This is the Meresti Service Tunnel. We need to go through here to find the gang.
331.jpg

FACT: This location seems like it was stolen from Oblivion.

332.jpg

There are monsters inside this tunnel.
Meet this Mirelurk. He attacks us. We kill him.

333.jpg

We leave those tunnels only to find more tunnels!!

After a couple of minutes, we find this guy:
334.jpg

FACT: ‘The Family’ is the name of the gang we’re looking for.

i3.jpg
Who the fuck names their gang ‘The Family’? Doesn’t that sound like a pretty faggy name? I mean, is that name supposed to create fear?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
I agree. These guys sound like a bunch of pansies.

335.jpg

Anyway, this badasssss gangster tells us to talk to their leader, Vance.

336.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
You were right. These gangsters are a bunch of pansies.

337.jpg

i3.jpg
Misunderstood? What do you mean? What kind of fucked up shit do you guys do down here?

338.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Teach them your ways? What are you, some sort of crazy cult?

339.jpg

i3.jpg
Please tell me there aren’t any vampires in Fallout. Please?

340.jpg

i3.jpg
Please?

341.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
But, you guys survive by only drinking blood and come out only at night? I’m pretty sure that makes you a vampire.

342.jpg

i3.jpg

343.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
If you psychos are so ‘disciplined’, then why you murder Ian West’s parents in Arefu?

344.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Yes.

345.jpg

i3.jpg
So, Ian West is also a vampire?

346.jpg

After a speech check, he agrees to let us talk to Ian.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Evan King told us to find you and make sure you’re ok.

347.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Yeah, we know. You’re a fuckin’ psycho just like Vance and the rest of this gang.

348.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Now you’re just making lame excuses. Quit blaming it on the hunger.

349.jpg

350.jpg

i3.jpg
See? This is why vampires get the reputation of being emo faggots. It’s ‘cause of losers like you.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
I agree. This kid’s getting really whiny and annoying.

351.jpg

i3.jpg
Actually, I think you’re a psycho emo murderer.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Whatever. Let’s just give him his sister’s letter.

352.jpg

353.jpg

i3.jpg
Actually, Lucy’s dead. We killed her.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
 Let’s gloat in front of his face about how we blew up Megaton and killed his sister!!

i3.jpg
Nope. The game doesn’t let us. This part plays out exactly the same, regardless of whether or not we destroyed Megaton and killed his sister.

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
:(

354.jpg

So, we go up to Vance and inform him of Ian’s decision.
355.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Also, you should stop attacking and feeding on Arefu.

i3.jpg
Dude, I don’t think that’ll work. I mean, this is a gang. They’re not gonna just start being friendly just ‘cause you asked him to. That’s not what gangs do.

356.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Well, what if the folks in Arefu give you bloodpacks and in return, you protect their town?

357.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
See? Told ya it would work.

i3.jpg
:sigh:

Anyway, let’s head back to Arefu and talk to Evan King.
359.jpg

358.jpg

We tell him about Vance’s proposition. Here’s his response:
360.jpg

We also decide to check up on Ian:
361.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Hey dude, you don’t actually believe you’re a vampire, do you?

362.jpg

i3.jpg
Hold on a second. When the hell did he actually learn to 'control his hunger’?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Well, he did hang out with that Vance dude for a night.

i3.jpg
This is supposed to be an almost uncontrollable hunger that caused him to kill his parents, right?

i3.jpg
He learned to control all of this in just ONE NIGHT?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
I agree. This dude’s is probably still just as unstable and psychotic as he was before all this.

i3.jpg
I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up killing and cannibalizing the rest of the folks in this town. We should get the fuck out of here before he tries to eat us.

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t let us warn the other residents about his ‘hunger’ or anything like that.
So, we decide to head back to Vance, and see if he has anything more to tell us:
363.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
Hold on a second. Are you trying to turn me into a vampire?!!

364.jpg

FACT: Will and Meditation are all you need to become a vampire.

365.jpg

366.jpg

367.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
So... I’m a vampire now?

368.jpg

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
So... does that mean that I’m only a Thin-Blood?

i3.jpg
Aren’t Thin-Bloods supposed to be harbingers of Gehenna?

MainCharacterSmall.jpg
So, that means I’m actually a sign of the upcoming apocalypse? Sweet!!

369.jpg

Normally, consuming a blood pack would only recover 1 HP.

End of part 9.

This is the last side mission I’m gonna do for now.
In the next episode, we’re gonna focus on the main mission some more and head to Galaxy News Radio Headquarters and resume our search for daddy.

Much like this whole quest.

It's so blatantly rail-roaded, the whole thing could just as well been shown via cut-scene. The disconnect between how the quest plays out --- Ian the emo-goth-wannabe-cannibal lives happily ever after --- vs. how it would have played out in RL: The people of Arefu take him out into the desert and cap his emo faggot ass, followed shortly by his sister having a nervous breakdown when you inform her of what her brother had done to their parents --- is just so jaw-dropping immense I'm amazed my monitor didn't implode from the vast degree of suck it had just experienced.

But, I guess, that's just Bethesduh pandering to their target audience.

It was after this quest played out, that I lost what little regard I had for Fallout 3 as an actual attempt at a game, and started treating it as a LARPing simulator.

Paladins, orks, tree ents, vampires.
In Fallout.
Bethesda has improved beyond perfection.

And lo' and behold - vampire gang that attacked people for years agrees not to do this anymore because some random guy asks them to and a boy who killed his own parents and fucking ate pieces of their bodies is easily welcome back to the Arefu.

Emil Pagliarulo together with Bethesda and all people who find this piece of shit enjoyable are braindead imbeciles.

Well, how do you think that Emil Pagliarulo managed to loose such an incredible amount of weight working on Fallout 3? To come up with all this shit requires intense focus and dedication. It's not that easy, you know?

Why would there be fresh blood packs in 200 year old hospital ruins?
