the +20 social credit is a bullshit "commie" button because it acts as a positive rating, not a negative one.

It means: "You are a moron for supporting an Orwellian system."

I thought it was sarcastic too, and it probably is, but it still gives a positive rating. Not sure why you think your post refutes the fact that it is a positive rating. Only in Lady Error's world is being a "moron for supporting an Orwellian system" a positive thing, apparently.

"You are a moron for supporting an Orwellian system."
To quote the overview of the novel in question:

The story takes place in an imagined future, the year 1984, when much of the world has fallen victim to

- perpetual war
- omnipresent government surveillance
- historical negationism
- propaganda

Great Britain has become a province of a totalitarian superstate named Oceania Kwanza that is ruled by the Party who employ the Thought Police to

- persecute individuality
- independent thinking

All of this checks out in the modern UK even without the communism. Ask Rowling, for example

Man, the joke only works BECAUSE it is a positive rating. Why would, in a regime, "Good job, you are supporting the regime!" be a negative thing? Stop doubting the buttons, embrace ineluctability.

Some buttons work as a response to what the post says, others as valuation of the post, others as a commentary on it. The positive/negative system isn't that important.
