Playing The Summoning from 1992 right now. A savegame I started in 2017. Got a little annoyed when I got to the knights and set the game aside. Jumped back in this week and tried to kill the blue knight over and over. Finally killed him tonight which (if I recall correctly) not the furthest I've ever made it in the game. I love the game, but some areas could use improvement. Weapons break after using them 10 times or so, mana regens about as quickly as in Morrowind (in fact, I have the screen windowed right now waiting, waiting, waiting for mana to regen.)

Summoning1.png

Yes, this is where I am as we speak - it'll be about 45 minutes before I have full mana... And the keen observer will note that yes, I reloaded with each odin rune until I had a 20 strength. I'm pathetic, but inventory is a pain in the ass!

Summoning0.png

Where I was about a week ago - this is a big game and unusual in that it requires a lot of caution. Fixed inventory, a mountain of stuff you'd like to carry, a nice magic system if you can stand the mana regen. Overall, the good outweighs the bad, but I'll be pleased to complete this.

Didn't know this was a sequel to Darkspyre for the Amiga - which I have never played - which I sorta have to now.

Ive gotten pretty into d2r, probably way more than I was when playing original. Just really smooth and satisfying, also like playing with controller. It is not perfectly balanced at all, but thats part of the charm. It sucks that no one can duplicate this in 20+ years, and no one ever will bc now these types of games are designed around microtransactions.

I wish there was a functioning in game ah. I liked the one in d3 and never understood why they got rid of it.

Been going through the GAMMA mod pack for the already modified Anomaly version of STALKER.

It's a stew combining parts of all of the prior STALKER games added in with 358+ mods. I know that sounds like a modders gonna mod Skyrimesque porn game total conversion set up but it just works.

Pic related it's me and my gunfu in the swamps.

One thing I never really liked about those STALKER mods is the way they make weapons look like they came straight out of the factory. They look so polished compared to the better looking grimy originals, you know, you are in The Zone after all.

It would be nice if it were possible to have dynamic gun models based off of condition checks without it being a tangled clusterfuck of a system. I think I'd have to check some of the other cold war era WP weapons, I don't think their models are as pristine as imported NATO/western arms. I give the UMP a pass since they are all carried by rich foreign mercs that don't stay in the zone for extended periods.

Started playing Age of Wonders 3 this weeked. Got hooked, fantastic game so far.

Got an invite to the Great Houses of Calderia playtest yesterday, but couldn't tear myself away from AoW 3.

The next playtest of Dark & Darker start tomorrow! Loved the previous one, very hooked.

Why must everything happen at the same time? Can barely make room for being sexist/racist on the Codex.

Found out a japanese book on "200 hard games to finish before you die", 100 games for NES and 100 games for SNES. So I'm just playing the 100 SNES games first. The first one was Parodius, which I have already finished(after a lot of game overs, kek). Now it's a puzzle game first released on Amiga(or C64) called Bombuzal. Nice game more so because I like Puzzle games. Apparently the game was also released on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1084010/Bombuzal/
But just download a rom and done.

Yeah. The mercenaries mainly carry NATO gear, while the rest of the factions carry Eastern Bloc weapons.
Still, weapons introduced in the Zone should be reliable and resistant to the harsh conditions in the area.

Playing Oblivion right now.
I kind of like it more than Skyrim. It's more of a RPG because you have actually builds and restrictions that you have to plan around instead of "lol, I'm just going to max everything out and be great at everything" and having a quick cast magic button is great.

That said, in true beth fashion there is a lot of stupid -
- There is level scaling. Not only is there level scaling, but it's the shitty kind where enemies just become damage sponges and chain stun lock you. This ruins progression and is shit

- The leveling up system is weird. It basically punishes you for leveling up your major skills because you don't have enough time to get +5 to the attributes a lot, so you have to waste time with minor skills. And god forbid you picked atheletics as a major skill, because you move so fucking slow in the game that you have to run everywhere, which means it levels up quickly and "steals" points away from the attributes you want because it will level you up and not your combat skills

- The lockpick minigame is bullshit. The timings are all off and it doesn't make sense. That said, it's better conceptually than what they introduced in FO3 and does require some skill, it's just that it's so unclear as to what is or isn't working.

- Fuck Clannfears. Seriously, absolute bullshit, overdesigned piece of shit enemy that just stunlocks you death, even if you block the fucking attack with full stamina. Eventually I lost patience and just used a Kill command on them, because if the game is going to be a cheating piece of shit so am I.

I love oblivion but I always use at least a character leveling mod or you get comparatively weaker as the game goes on unless you play real weird to game the system.

Well shit, is it save game compatible? Right now I have to use a mace to level up my strength because if I use blades (my major skill) I won't get to +5 strength on level up.

I'm currently playing Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle for the PS2 and honestly having a blast.

I always thought that Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI was the best KOEI strategy game I've ever played despite it being too easy but Iron Triangle blew me away on how great it is despite being on a PS2 console.

The game is surprisingly challenging due to the AI actually being smart and not a total pushover. Researching technologies actually matter and you to balance it and having enough funds and diplomacy works and it's no longer you vs everyone unlike ROTK11.

I'm currently playing as the Oda and it's not easy despite successfully expanding my territories due to being neighbors to two superpowers on the right (Uesugi and Takeda clans) and being pressure by other hostile clans to the left.

If only this was released on the PC...

My tally since the christmas period:

-galactic civilzations 3:
i havent played this in ages and remember finding it meh despite liking gal civ 2 but i was in the mood to make my own spaceships and the ship designer in this series is well decent.
My impressions have not changed, when one of my supposed allies with whom i had great relations hired a merc from the bazaar and culture flipped half my domain it almost made me want to rage quit right there and then, do i really have to tell my allies to stay out of my lands every turn to prevent that? BS. And sadly you cant even disable mercs via a toggeable option so that+ gal civ 2 having more fun super events means i’m of the mind that if you are going to play a gal civ game, play 2, none of the added mechanics in 3 are worth it.

-rune factory 4:
This title might be too weeb/cringe for most codexers but azure dreams on the ps1 gave me a taste for this very specific type of game. Came in expecting it to be worst then rf3 judging from reviews saying the series suffered going from 2d to 3d but i didnt mind too much: farming is more annoying but its something i avoid doing in these games anyways, but the dungeon crawling and combat feels a lot more fun in 3d. The town itself is not as good as rf3 due to it being more spread out BUT the game clearly telling you when there is town events available more then makes up for it (if you played rf games before, you will know exactly what i am talking about).

Also the game is an example of western sjwism ruinning vidya, in order to please westerners the devs removed same sex friendships and dialogues so made it so that all npcs will treat you as a romantic interest of the opposite gender, leading to male npcs blushing around you and flirting awkwardly. Needless to say i avoided talking to male npcs as a result and dodged all their related events.
And of course in reviews you have idiotic journos being all omg!!!! First rune factory game with gay characters, such inclusivity! Yeah…inclusivity by making everyone gay and eliminating gendered differences in dialogue so everyone is reduced to a grey blob, perfect metaphor for how woke bs ruins writing.

-Red orchestra europe 44-45:
Oldie but goodie ww2 fps which tried to be more hardcore then most such games without quite getting into arma 3 territory.
Learning curve is steep and there are way too many hyper autists with a billion hours in it but still, it’s mostly good fun.

Total warhammer 3: mostly mod testing to get it close to the same setup i had in wh2. I get the impression battles are much faster then they were in wh2 which is decline but it might be my mod setup so will have to test it further.

On one hand the rise by use skill system might seem immersive.
On the other hand it can easily lead to a certain degenerate behaviour like wasting 10 minutes of your actual time on being bitten by ghouls in order to rise your disease resistance or something.

Yeah, it does result in some silly shit like "let rats bite your balls for 20 minutes to raise your armour skill" or "cast detect life on yourself to raise mysticism."
Alchemy at least makes sense; if you make potions all day of course you're going to get better at it.

I really don't understand why armour is even a stat that you have to level it up by getting hit.
Can you imagine if it was how that worked in real life?"Alright men, today we're training you on how to use body armour. Just hold still while I shoot you with this magnum. If you live, great. If you die...well, you should have invested more points in Endurance then."

You'd think that just moving around in it and being in combat would be a better way to show your character getting used to it, not tanking hits like a dumbass. In most games, getting hit is a bad thing unless you have some reflect damage or damage steroid from health loss or some shit.

Insert Title Here Strap Yourselves In I helped put crap in Monomyth
i'm quite impressed by dread templar, although if you turn down the music - which is metal music obviously inspired by mick gordon's work, the only music that actually plays is this droning ambient stuff and the whole game takes on this trippy lynchian quality

I'm playing Kalin no Tsurugi ("Sword of Kalin"), a famicom disk system Action RPG.

What's cool about this 8-bit Ys clone:

- Completely open-world from minute 1. You can pretty much go anywhere in the world map right from the start.
- No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, in the overworld and in the dungeons.
- Smart use of terrain in combat. When the player enters combat in a plain open field, the combat screen will be plain and have no obstacles. Since the enemies always outnumber you, this kind of terrain will make it easy for them to surround you and death will ensue. However, enter combat on a forest or mountain area and terrain elements like trees or rocks now block spaces in the combat screen, allowing the player some protection and the opportunity to pick the enemies one by one. It's a design idea that makes sense on many levels.
- Enemies need to touch the player character in the overworld in order to initate combat and they spawn into the map screen one at a time, so players can easily avoid enemies and thoroughly explore areas even when severely underleveled.

What's shit about it:
- Bump to attack combat is always bad.
- The game pretty much consists of blindly looking for special quest items you'll then have to use in a specific situation or exchange for some other special item.
- Grindy AF.

It's easy to kill Metzger and his guards at a lower level than that unarmed, just buy and use a psycho and you can add insult to injury with jet if you want.

Or better yet, just lock both doors(using the Lockpick skill) so you won't be swarmed and having to fight Metzger and all his slavers.
Also, those windows can be used for sniping and then taking cover.
