What happened to "mature" art direction? Everything is Overwatch now

You guys are so cringe. You don't even know what fueled your favorite "artists" (spoiler: it was gay interracial fantasies)

those look like personal sketches for shits and giggles
not actual serious work

anyway
sensuality as always been a staple of his work
and if he really had a fetishism for interracional smut, that would've bled into his professional work
which it doesn't:

Yeah, Frank was a normie (he drew a lot of porn though). You can also see that he drew those blacks in almost a racist way, like caricatures. Anyway if you have read any of the Frazetta historians (or watched the 2003 documentary), he's had very few interests, mainly cars and motorcycles and playing sports (especially baseball). He's been with the same wife, Eleanor, since highschool. Not exactly deviant material.

Nutmeg you are literally a crazy washed up Serb living in Australia who believes that we are about to enter an era where communist China will rule the world for the next 10.000 years. And you claim to know that "cuckold fantasies" are what "fueled" some artist who was born 100 years ago? Brother, shut up.

And you claim to know exactly what "fueled" some artist who was born 100 years ago? Brother, shut up.
Except I don't believe that and you just made it up. Also, don't misunderstand me, I appreciate (some of) his (other) art too. The point I was making was that it was the social norms of the time (including education), not the artist's proclivities which led to his better art. If Frazetta was born today, he would be drawing doujin interractial hentai in his spare time between doing memphis coprorate art for silicon valley tech companies for money, because that is where his heart lay. We can also see this in Japanese artists like Masamune Shirow, who also drew very beautiful Japanese pop culture art in the 80s (a few lesbian scenes here and there, I suppose), but now literally draws almost exclusively interracial gangbang porn.

A childish art style can be forgiven because the simplification can make game elements easier to see (TF2 had very simplified art and nobody calls it childish, probably because it was tastefully done), and for indie developers going with a simpler art style can make projects a lot more feasible in the long run as they don't have to spend a fortune on high-quality art and environments.

My big issue with modern media isn't the childish art, it's the childish writing. The lack of gravitas is mostly from characters not taking to story too seriously, like it's all a big joke. No serious conversations, no emotional moments, just endless quips and jokes. Every character has to be an over-the-top stereotype with cheesy one-liners every 3 seconds. Bonus cringe points if they somehow manage to """cleverly""" weave in some commentary on capitalism in an awkward and hamfisted manner while producing nothing but toxic sludge themselves.

Seriously, we need to fire all writers and start again from scratch. The recent writers strike should have been a good opportunity for the industry to start fresh with some actual talent.

Don't badmouth Shirow, the guy is still serious, I think he lost some of his passion somewhere post the 90s and just draw a lot of smut and porn, but he's still serious about his universe.

You seem to have problem with interracial relationships, which is already bizarre for a commie, but even more for you since...

...didn't you claim to have a Japanese wife?

Note to Licorice's handlers: sack him from the 50 cent army. He's so bad at his job he regularly blows his cover and compromises fictional biography!

Been reading some developer's comments on Annah from PS:T
https://breezewiki.com/torment/wiki/Annah
According to Chris Avellone (WP), she was inspired by the character Betty Cooper: "Annah and Fall-from-Grace were inspired by Betty and Veronica from Archie comics, embarrassingly enough."[4] The character was voiced by and modeled upon the singer and actress Sheena Easton.[5] Annah's most prominent features are her tail and milk white skin, she also sports tattoo of a wyrm on her right thigh. Described as being on the brink of womanhood suggests that she 17 or 18 years old. Quoting The Nameless One she has beautiful green eyes like emeralds and flame red hair.
Annah was described by the Planescape: Torment concept artist Eric Campenella as "very acrobatic and dexterous so her outfit is light and made of leather. She has light arm and leg armor on one side which, combined with her agility, affords her better protection than full plate since this would hamper her movement. The armor is also somewhat mismatched since she is not particularly wealthy and probably acquired the pieces at different places and times in her life. The spiked shoulder-pad is probably more for ornamentation and gives off an intimidating air. I would be dishonest if I didn't say the outfit is somewhat revealing partially to show that she is a free spirit and partially because it is appealing to me as an artist. Hey, at least I'm honest! Her weapons are punch daggers, which are basically brass knuckles with blades attached to them. So she has Wild-West style holsters on her legs for quick-draw action."[6]

Canonically, the reason for her rather revealing outfit is that her fiendish heritage has given her a higher internal body temperature than that of the average human, and thus the less armor and clothing she wears the cooler and more comfortable she is. This is noted when talking to Goncalves, the tailor in the Clerk's Ward, about purchasing a new set of armor for Annah.
If you think western devs can make a character like Annah NOW, you are an idiot.

Sexiness is bad, even if you are a dick ass thief.

Annah's design was inspired by original Planescape artwork by Tony DiTerlizzi (compare with Annah concept art in the Planescape design document on the right):

Those religious paintings are the past's version of design-by-committee commissioned works. They're aesthetically pleasing, but the artist had little room for creativity.
All ancient art is canonical. Your attempt to shoehorn it into the modern paradigm of unrestricted personal expression on the one hand and corporate design on the other just highlights how alien the traditional mindset is to the soy bugman.

While there is such a trend indeed, there are proud exceptions.

Exibit 1: Clara Reed from Sovereign Syndicate, released by a Canadian company in 2024. Like Annah she's a character from the criminal underworld (a prostitute and an occasional thief), and while she does not show as much skin as the hot-blooded tiefling, her dress is pretty revealing for the Victorian era she lives in.
