When did CDPR apologize for Witcher 1? Do you have some evidence like a link?
Just search for some articles about the future remake of Witcher 1.
Sorry, but the person that makes the claim should provide the evidence, not the other way round.
I remember one full of "many themes weren't appropriate", "needs to be updated for modern audiences" coming from the supposed devs.
And I remember it was not an employee of CDPR claiming that, but someone from the company preparing the remake.

Besides, I'm sure as hell the word 'apology' never appeared in those articles.

Hence I consider the statement that CDPR apologized for Witcher 1 false until proven otherwise.
CD Project was already going down the path of woketards for a long time,
Be that as it may, I'm still to see the practical results of this woketardism in their games. All Witchers adhere to Sapkowski's way of looking at things and he was always the good old 'live and let live' leftie.

And both Panam and Judy are quite hot, which is very bizarre for a woke game :)
and it gave the rights to remake it to a studio with a similar track record.
That might be true, I guess we'll see when some more promotional material from the remake drops.

True, but I don't necessarily care to scour the internet for articles I've read months ago just to prove my on an Internet forum, when there is ample evidence how CD Project RED writing and game approach declined since making Witcher 1 or how they're embracing woke ideologies/DEI (like here, after just a guick YT search).

And I never stated that CDPR 'formally apologized' for creating Witcher 1, rather the tone of criticizing supposed bad parts and highlighting new approaches of remaking/modernizing Witcher 1 felt deeply in line with other game studios' modern PR speeches, slimly bashing on the old works, promising subverting just for the sake of subverting, and modernizing/diversifying just for the sake of idiotic propaganda and ESG money.

All Witchers adhere to Sapkowski's way of looking at things and he was always the good old 'live and let live' leftie.
If you can't discern the difference between Sapkowski's prose and the leftie 'creations' of today, then I am unsure if me debating with you about writing and woke even has a point. Woke isn't just making characters ugly, it's writing with a specific ideology in mind, glorifying radical feminism, bashing men, mary sue writing of women...

Sapkowski did lean left, and it was present in his writing, like Ciri and Mistle, mentions of Triss' and other mages' escapades with members of both sexes, or Neratin Ceka - the supposed tranny. But it was never written amateurishly artificial, stupefyingly in-your-face or purposefully one-sidedly glorifying. Mistle technically raped Ciri, Neratin Ceka doesn't get the job for being trans or gay, he gets the job and his companions don't want to question his allure to woman-wear, because he has some renown for his craft of killing people.

You don't have scenes where a hunter questions Geralt whether it's alright to be gay like in Witcher 3. Skellige in the books is ruled by man, Crach has literal 2 wives, so presenting his son in W3 as this sloppy rough drunkard, when he was just shown as a courageous lad by Sapkowski, and giving you a game-only original strong female sister, presenting her as more fit to rule, and fighting against 'mah patriarchy' and 'prejudice against women' is just another form of wokeization.

The Witcher by Sapkowski is still my favorite book series, I've read it multiple times in Polish, German and English. And I've read books by Patricia A. Mckillip or Marion Zimmer Bradley. Not even Marion's heavily pro-feminist "Mists of Avalon" reach the idiotically radical or dumb levels of forceful propaganda that is subtly and not-so-subtly spewed in the gaming industry of today.

First of all - Sapkowski does not give a fuck.

He shows a dirty, inconvenient side to every social and political system that true supporters tend to ignore. Being born and raised in 95% catholic society, and doing his best to sell shoes produced in Polish People's Republic on international markets, you will find nihilistic parody of both left and right wing values in his prose.

It does not mean that the author is some kind of messiah or a hero, he's just a grumpy grandpa that likes to get drunk and hit on girls 1/3 of his age.

And answering the question:

None of the developers mentioned in the poll would be a major players if not for complete retardation that has hit gaming industry in the 90's. Laughable first efforts by Bethesda, Larian, Bioware, Owlcat or CD Projekt RED would become quickly forgotten if we would get innovative, revolutionary Ultima, Might and Magic, Wizardry or Gold Box title every year as we did in the 80's.

A major improvement on Ultima IX Ascension, Gothic 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Might and Magic 6/7, Wizardry 7, Morrowind, Fallout : New Vegas or Betrayal at Krondor formula would be seen as a revelation and sell gangbusters - but unfortunately new indie players think that creating a title that could be as well released on Commodore 64, NES or 286 is sufficient. So it's hard for me to hate on 'established developers' that were sold multiple times to different corporations and release complete crap. They all should be dead by now, but they're kept alive by the lack of a new blood and a new talent.
