I would say 5. Even if it lacks new ideas and follows the blueprint from 3 too closely.

New Dawn was generic and the villains soured the game. 6 was too bloated, and the story was a turnoff because you played as real terrorists.

Far Cry 2. All the ones that came after it bored me eventually and I never bothered to finish any of them. Except for 6, but that's because I never even played that one (and I doubt I missed much).

I had fun with Far Cry 1 until you get to the mutants, it was downhill for the series since then.

Depends on what you mean by good. I enjoyed 3, 4, 5 and 6 as open world popamole in exotic locations (yes, Montana does count as exotic from a European perspective). All of these play pretty much the same because 3 was successful and then Ubisoft kept copypasting the formula with minimal changes.

Are they objectively good? Not really, no. But I enjoyed them nonetheless.

Far Cry 2 is the last one that actually had any ambition beyond being popamole, but it's dragged down by bafflingly retarded design decisions. Luckily there's mods nowadays that fix the worst aspects.

Far Cry 1 is the only one that was good without any major flaws.
Okay, except for the second half when you fight bullet sponge mutants. But up to that point, it's pretty great.

Far Cry Primal wasn't good at all but you can pin cavemen to trees with spears, so that was neat.

They're all only good for the IMFDB snark.

Really, I'm surprised they haven't done a cowboy western one yet, especially since they bothered adding horse (actually zebra) riding for one.

I enjoyed the first one and only the first one, probably mostly because it was graphically stunning and open-world, which was something uncommon back then. I never replayed it though and nowadays it would seem rather mediocre at best to me.

Far Cry Primal with the survivor mode they released like 5 years later or whatever was an interesting game IMO, coming from someone who genuinely despises FC games post FC1. Without the survivor mode I wouldn't bother.

I've only played Far Cry, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry 5.

I would say Far Cry is very good up until the point you start fighting the mutants. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is on my list of best games of all time because of it's humour.

To me Far Cry 5 wasn't that interesting and I abandoned it mid game because I felt it didn't have more to offer. There was simply no innovation and it wasn't fun. Also the setting was very weak. It takes place in an American territory occupied by and ISIS style sect, only that they are white Christians, and you have to fight them. It's just bad. Why didn't they set the game in Syria or Afghanistan instead and the put you in the role of an American adventurer mercenary? That would work better within the framework of "far cry".

The last one I played was 3 and I thought the stealth gameplay in that was fun. I heard the sequels declined in that aspect but I'm not sure

Gameplay wise I only enjoyed the first up till the mutants.
I did like 5, but mostly for the story, villain and the ending. Gameplay-wisw was boring slop.

The best in the series by a mile is Far Cry 2.
Far Cry 1 was good as a tech demo and a novelty.
Rest are shit and can be skipped.

FC1 was probably the first FPS I played with consistently massive outdoor areas, the ability to approach an objective multiple ways, to jump into and swim under water, etc. So I definitely enjoyed that one.

FC2 I enjoyed for the fire and weapon physics.

FC3 I thought had a pretty decent story (for an Ubisoft game -- I know, low bar) and the gameplay loop of "go capture an outpost" 30x or whatever is pretty consistently amusing when I have the FPS itch.

FC4 and FC5 are basically the same as FC3 in different settings.. fine for what they are, though the repeated "you got captured!" sequences in FC5 were a bit much. I haven't played FC6 or the others.

2 and Primal and Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. 5 had some damn good music though.

Far cry 1 and Far cry 2 are the truly original far cry games with new ideas. Far cry 3 and the games that followed are the same cooked ubislop games with a different setting.
