This dead horse is now liquefied, a mass of ooze dripping in my coffee or my whisky whenever my mind wanders and I think of RPGs. I realize this, and the bloody mass will be beaten again and again, and will unfortunately be beaten even harder once the game comes out. I have my reasons for being frustrated with this company.
So why did Bethesda decide to make a sequel for one of the most revered games in the genre? I find it very odd; since the people that appreciate and recognize the fallout name are people that like more old-school rpgs, vastly different from the current offering of Bethesda, and most other RPG developers. I believe that Bethesda's primary audience does not appreciate let alone know about fallout, so why did they acquire the license?
I see two reasons: They are lazy, unwilling to put the time and effort in creating something new. They decided to steal another, and make it palpable for those interested in bloom and blood baths, in full 3d, visceral to the bone. Why create a new, unique world when there's one that already has plenty of guns and opportunities for rendered explosions?
I admit that the other reason is suspect and on the fringe of paranoia, but maybe they also decided to get back at the old-school lovers for lambasting their hot seller Oblivion. “Let's show those naysayers and rape their beloved fallout and turn it into a FPS with stats so we can tout it as a RPG”, and though this reason would be nigh impossible to prove it brings the gun closer to my open mouth.
