He isn't really flip-flopping though, just apologizing for picking the new Wolfenstein game as a target:

"Though I was wrong to take out general frustrations on an individual game and on a single team, I'll stand by my overall statement about lack of variety and innovation in mainstream gaming," Spector said. "I was simply expressing, once again, my long-held belief that we make too many shooters, lots of which look, sound and feel like basically the same game dressed up in different clothes. I've been saying that for years--it's nothing new. Wolfenstein got in the line of fire, but I've been shooting at this target for a long time."

He basically repeats the same stuff in this "apology".

Maybe he should've waited until the game is released before judging it.

FNV had promos that made look like FO3 with a few casinos and a dinosaur, yet it turned out to be something much better to say the least.

Disappointing to see they have "sneak up behind enemy and press button to kill animation" :decline:
Didn't RTCW have that too? It's the only good thing about using the knife as it's a stealth weapon. Just take out the pop-up prompts and any form of combo kills and it's good. And as long as the anims are quick.

Just noticed that there are actual nazi flags and symbols in the concept art, not some silly lookalikes as typical in video games. Is Bethesda going to take on the German censorship ministry?

Did it? Well, even if it did, I still dislike being forced to watch a too intricate animation every time I want to sneakily kill an enemy. I'd rather they take the STALKER/Metro approach, where if you can sneak close enough to the back of the person and stab them manually it is a one hit kill, but without any "cinematic takedowns" involved. Of course it's just a single screenshot which probably won't look anything like the final product, so maybe the animation is near instant.

RTCW didn't have visceral takedown animations, but it had the backstab = instakill policy.

All Wolfensteins had actual nazi symbolism in the English versions, while the German versions were horribly crippled parodies of the original.

Both RtCW and 2009's Wolfenstein replaced the nazis with... wait for it... The Wolf Sect in the German version, with all swastikas being replaced with the Wolfenstein symbol and the supernatural SS division didn't have actual SS ranks but ranks like Alphawolf and Betawolf.
Wolfenstein (the 2009 one) was banned in Germany anyway some weeks after the release because the censorship team forgot to remove one single swastika in the entire game.

When it comes to nazis, we have the most retarded censorship ever.

BONUS LULZ: The German version of Hearts of Iron 2 replaces the names of nazi leaders and removes their portraits. Adolf Hitler is Albert Hiller, Hermann Göring is Hermann Gorink, Heinrich Himmler is Heinrich Himmel. HEY GUESS WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO SUPPRESS NAZI IDEOLOGY? LET US REPLACE THE NAMES OF NAZI LEADERS WITH FANTASY NAMES IN A HISTORICAL STRATEGY GAME, BECAUSE IF WE DON'T EVERYONE WILL BECOME A NAZI HURR DURR DERP

At least that's, uh, somewhat creative.

Unlike misters Hilter, Gorink and Himmel.

To comply with German law, a special edition of the game was made for that country, in which the developers removed the Nazi swastika. In its stead, the German forces' use a Wolfenstein logo which is a combination of a stylized double-headed eagle prominent in most Nazi symbolism, and a "W" (standing for Wolfenstein), it can be seen on the cover art for the American version (above). Every direct reference to the "Third Reich" was removed; thus, in that edition, the player is not battling Nazis, but a secret sect called the "Wolves" led by Heinrich Holler, whose name is a pun of the original character Himmler (Himmler roughly translates as "Heavener", Holler as "Heller").

I always wondered how did they put those censored Wolfs in ANY time period or context or whatever.

"The year is... uh, somewhere in the middle of the 20th century.

Germany is under siege by a, well, by a sectarian menace. And only the brave American commando agent B. J. Blazkowicz can save it!

By taking the war off the streets! Mass-genociding the soldiers of the Wolf Sect! While the German gubmint has its hands tied with Turkish immigration policies!"

so, how did the Germans go from K98 with bayonet to use combat armor and robots, just some 20 years after they won the war?

bigimage.jpg

that uniform looks more Russian then German, no indication of rank on the neck or anything, just red. Artillery officer?

This might come as a big shock to all the whiners here, but this is a fictional version of post-Nazi era. Trying to find answers why uniforms, ranks, signs or other display isn't historically accurate is futile.

Err...is this game a sequel or a reboot? If it's a reboot then I might not be so irritated at the fact that the protag is still BJ. If I recall he was a Captain in older games so he was arguably in his early 30s during those games. If this game is a sequel he'd be like what, 50+? Gimme a break...I've already had enough of old, one-man army protags after Snake in MGS4. Just get another silent Pollock to do the job

A sequel or Reboot, it doesn't matter, from what I read Wolfenstein 2009 is so average in a CoD way and Return to Castle Wolfenstein is so far away that people don't care what the story was. In best possible scenario it would be Riddick with Nazis in it, worst case scenario would be CoD with muslims/russians playing with nazi outfits.

Maybe they can use Commander Keen's father. The most badass talk show host in the world. :smug:

I wonder if there might be some time travel elements in the plot. In the trailer BJ says that the nazis are rewriting history, and that he's been "gone". So i speculate that the nazis have gotten their advanced tech from the future, and that BJ has gone through a time warp from 1945 and is still young and fit to fight nazis in the 60's.
