Commander seems appropriate for those who played nuXCOM. I mean I'm not playing on Ironman but it provides a good challenge.

I like the timed missions, makes the game feel more "run and gun", instead of the lawnmower of doom, everyone in a straight line killing everything game like the last.
And given the guerrilla nature of the setting, I guess that's mission accomplished

hohoho, with the anti-beaglerush protocols in AI behaviour I had a faceless morph out in the aliens turn, rush to two of my dudes and kill one + critically wound the other. With its bullshit running range it is horryfying. And I was like ~10 tiles from that motherfucker pretending to be civvy.

I find equipping one of my band of merry terrorists with battlefield scanner to be remarkably useful since it reveal faceless very early and most importantly very very far away.

They still chain panic. One of my dudes panicked and went into overwatch. When my other also guy who also panicked move he tried to kill him. Chain panic is very much alive :)
That sounds like a bug. In EW they were smart enough to remove soldiers shooting at allies

Are you sure about that? I was playing XCOM2 one of my soldiers panicked, and she took out a grenade and tossed into two other of my soldier that were squatting behind, destroying their cover and killing one of them. Pure bullshit.

That feeling when your high level sniper is one movement point short of the evac zone on your last turn.

Werent there los issues with EU too? Im guessing there are some geometric faults in the procedurally generated maps (i like the concept though).

Right now still on IM (probably a bad idea with the games current state) commander but im guessing i wont be able to get to a win on the first run, with all the bugs still in game (and as other mentiond some of the bloody annoying enemies who can destroy your entire squad pretty easily).

Legendary/Ironman has been pretty rough early game but it feels like artificial difficulty since you're limited to 4-5 squad which seems absolutely retarded when I'm facing 3 pods, 2 turrets and a stunlancer reinforcement dropship on my flank while on a timer that requires a specialist to be alive - flashbangs are pretty much a requirement and mimic beacons are a get out jail free card. Don't see why they couldn't have up'd the squad size as it only limits strategic options but whatever mods will fix it. Once I upgraded to magnetic/guass with some choice PCS upgrades things became pretty smooth. Squad size is my only gripe really and I don't miss the air game at all.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I don't get the reviews at all. 6.8? I mean yeah it probably sucks performance wise (even though I didn't see that), but what else is the problem? Is it too hard or something?

*Reading the reviews it seems that the timers are the biggest problem. Haha talk about getting people out of their comfort zone :hahano:

Medical Specialists are the best things ever.
Their drone heals and revive have no range limt and the ranged hack is always nice to have.

On the other side, sniper based sharpshooters are garbage. Probably because due to the uneven procedural terrain. Pistol sharpshooters are great though. Rapes every idiot who shoot at him, shoot at everything with high accuracy and provide secondary cover destruction via grenades in case the grenadiers are too far to help.

Is there a way to download other people's characters? I just don't have the patience/talent/time to fiddle with all those options.
Shit, you guys can use mine ... but that means I need to finish writing all their bios first :D
OK, so for anyone who wants to use them ... 35 custom characters made by me, including unnecessary biographies.
Bear in mind that these are original fictional characters, most created by me, some originally created by my friends and then adapted for XCOM 2 by me. Some are from old P&P campaigns, others from CRPGs. All of them have existed before in some game or other.

But if you are looking for the 1,001st Solid Snake or Mario attempt, you will not find them here.

Simply drop the file into \Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\CharacterPool\Importable and then the characters will be importable to your pool in-game.

Let me know if you like them or have questions. If you hate them, keep it to yourself. :)

I find it quite dumb that you can complete the objective for a mission (e.g. destroy a comm device) but still fail it by extracting your XCOM team before killing all the aliens on the map. As if killing four more alien grunts matters when we've achieved the reason for the mission. Rather goes against the "get in, complete the objective, get out" idea of a guerilla war.

The situation is even weirder because (aside from orpses) you receive the rewards for suceeding at objective.

I wouldnt mind this shit if it wasnt for council reports, cause Optimus Prime 47 considers failed missions points for aliens.

"Let's see," I thought to myself the other day, "Fallout 4, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age Inquisition each have 400 to 500+ pages here on the Codex, including the pre-release threads. Looks like the new XCOM is out. Is it getting its own huge thread, too?"

I have to wonder, why XCOM 2? Could it be that you've all played every worthy strategy game ever developed, and don't care to replay any of them? Is XCOM 2 really a superior experience compared to, say, replaying Enemy Unknown (patched to remove unintentional easy mode) or TFTD? There's OpenXcom now too, so it runs perfectly and doesn't have timing issues, mouse lag/cursor flickering, etc. that you'll often get in DOSBox.

I did play the first XCOM, and I somewhat enjoyed it, but it had too many popamole, "streamlined," dumbed-down features and mollycoddling. I had no desire to mess with it again after just one playthrough.

I genuinely don't understand why people who purportedly enjoy good strategy games and presumably are fans of X-COM are playing this nonsense. The Firaxis name doesn't mean much this side of the 2010s. They've been cranking out a lot of shovelware in recent years.
