Bethesda guys aren't masters of anything unfortunately.
This pretty much sums it up.

It is interesting to see how a troll or two can really liven up the usual <s>Bethesda</s> Zenimax hating. Yes. Oblivion with guns. Yes. Todd Howard and Pete Hines die die die. Nice to see how united we are. We should just storm Zenimax corporate with torches and sawed off shotguns to put an end to the travesty/aborted fetus that is FO3.

FO3 is going to be an entertaining shooter with RPG-lite elements and an exceptional atmosphere.
I wonder about that. Obviously it goes without saying that FO3 cannot be judged by the usual RPG standards. I haven't played a shooter since Doom's original release. So I guess I'm not too qualified to judge. I found even Morrowind to be terribly boring by *any* standard imaginable. Even the usual story-less action game standard. I only recently purchased a video card with the power to play Oblivion. So I can't say how that fares. The scenery and weapon screenshots looked amazing to me. The non-character artists seem to be pretty decent. If only Zenimax could hire decent designers.

Actually I just think Zenimax is targeting a much younger demographic than The Codex. It is clear that FO3 is targeted more towards 10 year olds. My 9 year old nephew would fit squarely in their demographic. I have no doubt that he would love it.

Yes. That would be nice. Although I would prefer if they spelled it "Nucular" instead. But again note elander_'s point above.

Fargoth's Gold?

I didn't read any Morrowind previews so I missed what Fargoth's Gold was all about. How exactly did Bethesda use the Fargoth's Gold quest to overhype Morrowind?
It was a heavily scripted, interesting quest implying that the gameworld is alive and dynamic. Bethesda used this single quest example (sounds familiar?) to overhype the game and hypnotize the media. Unfortunately, it was a single quest of such a caliber and anything else was plain in comparison. What's even more unfortunate is that nobody asked Bethesda any questions about lying and misleading everyone, so the only lesson Pete Hines learned is that lying is a great form of marketing.

GameSpot: "What we found were a number of other perplexing quests waiting to be undertaken. For example, we were charged with spying on a particular townsperson so we could find his hidden stash of ill-gotten gains. To do this, we needed to carefully observe his actions in the dead of night, from atop a lighthouse. Then we retraced his footsteps and recovered the loot, returning it to its supposedly rightful owner. We later decided to confront the townsperson about the whole incident. Just as Morrowind itself is a nonlinear game, its quests also seem to have various outcomes and solutions."

Yet another glaring example showing that most game reviewers barely play the first couple of hours of the games before writing their piece.
Not that many games deserve more than that though.

Grand Theft Auto IV is being advertised in the same way: company representatives overlooking the hands-on previews, no gameplay footage released, tons of media sites ejaculating "best game ever".

yes, but Rockstar has a damn good track-record with GTA series. the gameplay always was consolish with shit like time-quests, pursues etc - I doubt they will make it any worser.

Don't bash GTA, it's never been sold as anything else than an action racer/shooter and that it does a great job at. I replayed GTA 3 the other month and although I can't say I liked it that much (apart from the radio channels and driving taxi), it has a solid presentation and is really fun to just fool around in.

I'm not bashing it, just giving another example to show that the overhyping Fallout 3 is getting is pretty standard for a modern AAA game. Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably gonna get it too.

The dumbfuck didn't even realize the guard was asking you to steal from Fargoth.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is followed by a big hype already, but I think that Japanese developers have a completaly different aproach when it comes to games. They put focus on the story so I have no worries there. MGS4 will have a great story, no doubt about it, and for me that is enough to enjoy the game.

I had some fond memories of the first Metal Gear Solid but after playing the second one (pc port, quite awful I have to say), I found that the story was quite the dumbfuckery.

Then I replayed the first MGS and saw that the years removed the veil of innocence and stupidity from my eyes and I found it quite the dumbfuckery as well.

I guess Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is still the best in the serie.

I'm all for insulting the gaming press, but in this case the use of the word "supposedly" indicates that he did realise.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I did it! My last two years wasn't spent in vain. I made a guy (who had never played fallout) fall in love with FO. You know its kinda hard to play it now. You don't have fancy graphic and so on. Sad thing... now he is looking forward to FO3...
