Whats with the new press event thread that was retardoed? it seems to me like *someone* is hiding something. Was the information too horrible to fathom? Or maybe it was positive, and the NMA/Codex staff is suppressing the truth. I sense a conspiracy.

Besides, you don't become the sheriff. You can put on the sheriff's clothes and some people say "howdy, sheriff", but knowing Bethesda, that's pretty much it. I mean, you don't expect Bethesda to change their design dramatically just to help you win an argument, do you?

In MW and Oblivion, the top rank is just a title given after end of particular guild questline. Why are you comparing it to this quest? Its not like you 'earn' the title of Sheriff or something. You just put on his disguise for this small quest. Why it is *dramatic* change in design then?
Memory loss?

"Aditya: Umm, you forgot the part about 'becoming' the Sheriff yourself. I would like to see how things turn differently [if at all], when you blow the town *being* the sheriff."

Valut Dweller said:
Good point. I guess that explains why Oblivion was loaded with options.

Maybe they will implement it in FO3?
Maybe pigs will start flying. You never know.

After all, some of the thing they are demonstrating are already an improvement over Oblivion.
Bethesda is known for demonstrating things that are either not in the game or that don't represent the overall design of the game. Fargoth's Gold? 1001 ways to get a diamond from an NPC? The RAI presentation?

it's just another Codex conspiracy, like with SP masking as Andhaira

it contained the screenshots which included top-down view, tb combat and a great variety of well-written dialogues. all this time bethesda was posting horrible shit after horrible shit to make us believe that FO3 will be a crappy game, because really - even the most retarded idiots won't come up with such "ideas" - but in the end they will go like - surprise! and deliver us the game we want. not gonna happen, bitch
but Codex and NMA need enraged masses to take over the world - so they can't let the truth out.

the car in fallout 2 worked on usual batteries you used for your energetic weapons. so yeah - if you even use that shit in the weapons - how can they be unreliable?
but Bethesda proved they can.
But it's only ''mini'' mushroom cloud, remember? It all makes sense. Like, you know, those ''mini-tsunamies'' or ''mini-sequoia''.

I don't get it.
Dad screen doesn't contain any examples of dialogue and the raider one is basicly:
1. ''Hi''
2. ''By''
Same Oblibians.

Weird they haven't shown the dialogues you mentioned in the preview. Maybe afraid to offend the target base with TOO MACH TXET BOREING GLUAHGLUAG11!

I'm sorry to say it, skyway, but when the men with the black uniforms and the big guns visit you, please follow all their orders and you won't get hurt. We have to do this, you need to understand. It is all for the better, it is for the safety of everyone of you, and for the guarantee of a new world order that will bring peace and prosperity over humankind. We can't let your propaganda spoil this, can we?

And don't worry, the execution will be as painless as possible. Underszand that we just have to do this, to guarantee the security of our mission.

Waah waah.

Guess what?

FO3 is going to be an entertaining shooter with RPG-lite elements and an exceptional atmosphere.

That's it. Stop crying.

Will it be the Fallout we all know and love? No. But it'll immerse the players in a different way and be a hell of a lot more entertaining than recent shooters in terms of plot and backstory.

If it makes you happy, get a sticky and cover "Fallout 3" with "Nuclear: Life After War, loosely based in the Fallout universe" and put it back on your shelf. Tada.

Yeah, but it will probably require high virtual larping skills.

If you knew so much about the quest as you claim, *what* clarification you wanted? What exactly are *two* black n white choices you were referring to? If you read BN's posts above, you would understand its anything but like that, which would only mean u did NOT have enough information about that particular questline. Its no shame if you admit you were ignorant.

Why should i do that? I already had the info you brought up and probably know more about it than you know and it still doesn't get near the quality of Fallout quests. I don't have to be happy when a mediocre quest is presented to me as a Fallout quality quest and please don't give me that i don't care crap.

Aditya said:
Isnt that obvious? they will try to refine what they know best of.

What they (new Bethesda) know best is to create beautiful cg engines where you can larp. They made an half decent game when Ken Rolston was the lead designer in Morrowind but that was it.

In Morrowind they only changed the scale of the world and i accept it because of technical difficulties making a game with the world scale of Daggerfall while still looking presentable.

Aditya said:
Yes, you indicated that you are ok with 1st person camera and 3d graphics. How so generous of you. Indeed, there isnt much scope in *improving* FO given how perfect the game already was, no? Where else you want FO to improve?

First Fallout isn't perfect but it's a classic and a reference.

Second why not work on the Fallout core?

Why removing the world map and fit the entire world into a tiny sandbox?

Why VATS which is nothing more than a bullet time system and not a combination of RT and TB like Fallout Tactics did? There are many games that worked well with that scheme. Might and Magic is one example of a first person game that works with both RT and TB.

Why not including both camera modes? A point and click interface and a first person interface?

I don't see any technical limitations here that prevent this to happen.

Aditya said:
Its a fact that FO3 will NOT match the quality of FO. Its Beth's version of FO and I am looking forward to it. End of argument.

Not if they insist in calling this game a Fallout game and refuse to shows us some Fallout quality. The credits of the people they hired to write for Fallout 3 shows how much they care about this.

Think like a gamer and think for yourself. Does Bethesda pays you to defend their incompetence and PR bullshit? What do you gain in standing for this crap?

In the previous wave of previews, the funniest thing for me was how everyone want "and Radiant AI?! THAT'S TOTALLY IMPROVED!!"

I was replaying Fallout with the jinxed perk (a perk that makes everyone fail a lot and drop their guns to the floor, which is good for someone who doesn't play with combat skills) and i decided to use the alien blaster gun (which i got from a special encounter) in a fight for a quest that has gone the wrong way instead and running away. It happened that my enemy and my character both drooped their guns. The other guy dropped theirs first and i dropped the alien blaster in the turn after. When it was that guys turn he run to my feet and grabbed the alien blaster from the floor instead of picking up his own gun. He then proceeded to volatize my char with three well placed shots in the next turn.

I wonder what those guys who attended that Fallout 3 preview would think of this, done in a game that is 10 years old.

@Brother None: Did Sheriff Simms predictably have the same voice that Redguards have in Oblivion/Morrowind?

Exactly what points to it being an entertaining shooter? It looks to me like it has as much appeal as a shooter as Arcanum had as an Action RPG. The shooter elements are going to be gimped by the tragically inept "tactical" mode that VATS represents, so why bother? Just play a fucking shooter.

no no - even more hilarious is beth and exceptional atmosphere. these two things cannot co-exist together.
besides how can be a ruined world covered with the happy shiny bloom where orks fight human paladins be atmospheric? screenshots look shitty and generic - your standard "everything is covered by bloom and bumpmapping goo"

Damn man.. I now realize what games used to be about. At least the gem that's FO.

Yup and they did it all with scripts. If we want to play a fucking decent rpg these days we have to wait for some old indie creator to do a decent one or the moders to come in and fix all the crap, because a) you can't let the nobe fail any skill check or make him think too hard, b) everything has to be packed with pixel shaders and into a small immershum-ive disney park and c) a team of dumbfucks apparently thinks better than one credited and experienced game developer who isn't that expensive to hire considering how much of these guys are unemployed or working no one knows where.

Fargoth's Gold?

I didn't read any Morrowind previews so I missed what Fargoth's Gold was all about. How exactly did Bethesda use the Fargoth's Gold quest to overhype Morrowind?

This particular short quest is more complex in design (scripted) than any other and they used this quest as an example on every presentation and preview. And you know that vast majority of other quests were of simple fedex/elimination type.

Or Stalker, which seems to be Fallout 3 done by the Iron Curtain guys as opposed to some guys on the East Coast.

Brother None politely asked me to remove the news item because it wasn't ready for PRIME TIME yet. So, I removed it and moved the comments thread to Retardo Land so Jarly wouldn't have to retype the whole thing when it was cool to post about it.

Huh? What "Prime Time"? The Codex Administration is keeping secrets?

Not so much "prime time" as public. I just goof'd up and news sumbit'd it to the Codex. It wouldn't have been a problem if JarlFrank wasn't such a fast newsposter, he posted it before I got the note that I done messed up. So my bad.

There was no real new info out in what I posted anyway, so nothing spectacular in any of this, just a minor goof-up.

Saint P: it'll prolly go up in a different format if it goes up again, so poor JFK will have to repost anyway :(
