The only reason I was able to finish Morrowind (after like 3,000 tries) is just so I could add another notch to my list of codex top 70 RPGs played :whatho:

and of course so I can trash talk about it in a more educated manner.

I got used to the UI except for the journal which is tiny and hard to use.

But you still can't rebind the "Cancel" or "Close Window" commands to the ESC key AFAIK. You *have* to use the mouse.

Morrowind, with all its flaws, was fairly easy for me to get into and play. Its biggest problem is the fact that the world feels dead. No such thing in Gothic 1. In Morrowind NPCs literally walk from point A to point B, then from point B to point A, and repeat.

Yeah, Morrowind, more than any other RPG and probably video game I've ever played, feels completely dead. It's not just a function of its clockwork NPCs (though that is a big part), but other things too, like the huge size of the world compared to the small amount of meaningful content, the massive cities (Balmora and Vivec in particular) populated by small numbers of NPCs, the even more braindead wildlife (cliff racers just floating everywhere, those insects robotically moving around), the silent (non-voiced-over) dialogue in a first person 3D game.

It's a sad realization I discovered upon playing Gothic. The fact that NPCs actively talk to me was my "this world is dead as fuck" wake up call. But I had noticed that aspect long ago.

Who said that rpgs are about fun? Oblivion is pretty good mod to make morrowind fun i.e. removes all the boring tedious shit.

But it doesn't replace it with anything. So if you take something that only has boring tedious shit, and remove said shit, you are left with an empty vacuum, which aptly describes Oblivion.
