Especially Varant and the huge ruins near Mora Sul.

Yeah but most of that area was just filled with tedious MMO quests: find the X scrolls, find the Y urns, find the Z rings, etc. spread out over the four 'houses' or district ruins or whatever they called it.

I meant that I liked the looks of the ruins, not the actual quests. If we want to talk about Gothic 3 quests then we have a long list of shit to deal with. The whole game played out like a single player MMO, there's no denying this. Having that said, at least there was a shitton of quests to do, if that's your thing. It felt like there was always adventure right around the corner no matter where I went, but it never shoved it down my throat either.

The big problem I had with Gothic 3 was that Nordmaar and Varant seemed like they were just filler both in design and content while Myrtana was fucking great. It looked consistent as a world(of course scaled down) had the most robust quests and things and places to discover that were often hard to track down and rewarding in some way. I understand that Nordmaar is supposed to be confusing and inhospitable and Varant vast and empty with a few settlements scratching out an existence and there is that atmosphere which on one level works well, BUT on another level it results in a lot of bland questing and tedious wandering looking for needles in haystacks. Of course one doesn't want quests and locations popping up every two seconds like in Oblivion but the actual reason for exploring(ie. to discover some great new secret or loot) is diluted when you traipse for 10 minutes in a desert only to find a whole lot of nothing.

Those other two lands would have worked better as just smaller additions with a greater releationship to what is going on in Myrtana eg. go to either the main Human or Orc encampment in Nordmarr to seek allies for the Myrtana factions and perhaps then travel to the city deep in the desert of Varant for the final battle. It would have given diversity and focus.

On other hand Varant had much better liberalizations then Myrthana.

Just the fact that you had a good reason to kill almost every NPC in Varant, and find help in that makes it not true for me. There was too much walking in Varant especially in escorting the mages, but the liberalizations were good.

Liberations, mayhapse?

I LOVED Nordmar, it was a great place to get lost/roam around and the poorer vision range made things all the more exciting when a saber-tooth jumped on your ass.

Those finisher cutscenes seen in some of the videos can be switched off, thankfully.

Environments looking really gorgeous in those vids, PB always does such a great job making hand-crafted worlds. Also, it's pretty cool to see a PB game where the women actually look like real people for once.

Just looked up its release date, it comes out in April 24, 27 for Europe. Didn't realize it was so close. Already pre-ordered, really excited for this one. It's too bad it's going to get overshadowed by Mass Effect 3's release, this is clearly the superior game.

Those animations are simply atrocious, but at least is a proof that this is a "proper" PB game :)

- Swashbuckling looks fun ! Not your typical hack n slash game.

Also you can play as a monkey, look out ! a three headed monkey!

Oh shit the voice acting is bad. I guess they didn't think paying for proper voice acting was worth it anymore.

The monkey, magic and combat look sweet though.

I kinda liked the stale and awkward english voice acting in Gothic 1 & 2. For me it's an important part of the Gothic experience. That said, I don't really give two shits about voice actor quality anyway. It's nice if it's good, but I'm not gonna make any extra comments about it. Sometimes they can be really bad for a hilarious effect (see: Men of War, Two Worlds)
Losing some (maybe most?) of the wit and humor from the original german script is unfortunate however.

Yeah, the shitty voice acting in English is part of the charm. At this point, it signals to me that I'm playing a Gothic game.

Besides, its badness is kind of low-key. I wouldn't trade that for slightly better but in-your-face-extreme-gritty-action-film voices for anything.

I personally loved the horrible voice-acting in the games, I always imagined they just got their in-house devs to do the voices cuz they keeps it real like that.

So, got a chance to actually watch that video. If using voodoo isn't overly gimmicky and for certain scripted areas, and can actually be used as a tool, I am so fuggin' on board. Glad that video's out too, as it alleviated some concerns that were starting to form over reactions to the changes to combat. Now, if only the "consolization" that VD speaks of is misreading what PB has presented, all shall be well.
