Tags: Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the UnderdarkKhabal posted a review of Hordes of the Underdark giving it 8 out of 10 noting that you could finally play as a bad guy this time. Well, better late then never, although it did take Bioware years to grasp this tough concept.
There are some minor gripes about it though, like the lacking of subraces (I know dialogue would be a bitch and it (it wouldn´t really be special if you were a tiefling and no one noticed), non turn-based combat which really kills the tactical combat elements of 3rd Edition which I have completely fallen in love with, the lack of some combat manuevers that I tend to abuse in pen and paper (grapple, flank, higher ground advantages, tripping, bullrushing, etc) and the fact that my two favourite prestige classes from the splatbooks aren´t in (Tempest and Duelist). Finally! Somebody mentioned in a review that real time combat sucks and has nothing in common with DnD despite some claims that "Neverwinter is the closest possible adaptation of D&D on the computer". I wouldn't call them minor gripes though. Here is another one:
With that, there´s also the inclusion of whips, which I have a few complains about. Namely that they deviate from the Pen and Paper (PnP) version a little too much, like where´s my 15-feet reach? Why should I be a whip fighter if there´s no Lasher PrC, why don´t I provoke an Attack of Opportunity when I attack someone with the whip? It doesn´t really add much flavour to the game it seemsRemember when some idiot asked Tim Cain why he decided to make a TB DnD game? That's why
