Cut him some slack, he's sustained massive butt injury from how mediocre the game has turned out to be.
Yeah i wonder why he's on Codex in the first place. Why not join something like ResetEra instead of here? I don't mean this as an insult, but it's obvious he's not exactly the right fit for this place. I mean... the freaking first page of the forum says we are terrible people...

Difference is, Disco Elysium had the guts to actually use the word faggot, censored or not. TOW is toothless and pandering.

Irrelevant to my point and i couldn't care less if a game has the word faggot and other not.

Just because disco uses faggot doesn't mean shit for the actual quality ( very high btw) of the game after all it's just a word.

Even if this game was Masterpiece, 11/10 since slice bread, same fuckers would come just to lose their shit of how you can't name your character Hitler or Fag and thats everything about the game is sjw.

Can you find me one (1) example of a game that most people here consider quite good but the discussion is still centered mostly around the stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the game itself?

I'm curious if your claim is even remotely grounded in reality or if you're just pulling it out of your AIDS-ridden ass.

Thoughts after my first day of playing:

Interesting to me that Prime Junta ranks Fallout: New Vegas as "peak Obsidian writing" in comparison to this game. As I was saying yesterday on Shoutbox, most of the writing in New Vegas is actually pretty basic. There isn't some gaping chasm of quality separating Sunny Smiles and Easy Pete from Goodsprings from the characters of Edgewater. Anybody who tells you that the moment-to-moment writing in The Outer Worlds is like, radically different stylistically from Fallout: New Vegas ("Everybody in The Outer Worlds sounds like an SJW cuck! Everybody in Fallout: New Vegas sounds gritty and awesome!") is only remembering the best parts of that game. In fact, I think there's little in the FO:NV base game that Obsidian's current writers couldn't have done. There's a reason the Avellone-written Dead Money DLC feels so different.

So the question is, does The Outer Worlds have those "tentpole" elements that elevate the entire experience in retrospect like New Vegas does. The great characters like House, Caesar & Chief Hanlon, and the strong setting. Very likely it doesn't, but I need to play more.

* * *

In other complaints, I've found that the bodies of Marauders can blend too easily into the high grass in Emerald Vale and it's sometimes hard to find them for looting. Art direction screwup.

Wow WTF. So in TOW, you cannot name your character certain words. For example, you cannot name your character "mongoloid". Even though it's a purely singelplayer game. That is messed up.

Unlike (((Magnat))) they do actual market research instead of pulling shit out of their ass on a forum.

And after this research game ended up:
1) Paid in advance by Epic
2) Available in 1$ game pass (for installing last version of Win 10 to improve MS statistics).

It is like nobody even tried to generate revenue by selling it to actual people.
In other words, they had zero creative constraints and 4 years of development and that is what Obsidian came up with. Let that sink in.

Yes, and this is the queston that matters. Whether during live play or in retrospect, the average is simply not worth caring about. (But it's a good way to moderate a forum.)

In less words, nobody give a fuck about 40.

I'm put off from playing TOW simply because I'm still riding the highs of Disco Elysium, and the game will probably seem like been-there-done-that derivative shit to my eyes.

The optimization on the PC port is utter dogshit. People with monster rigs playing at 60-70 fps with stutters audio and fps at 1440p. Ridiculous.

It gets especially bad once you get to bigger towns like Monarch etc.

So, I take it the majority opinion is that the game is rather disappointing and

-tier, especially considering it was supposedly led by Cain and Boyarski?

Another thing is that I think people are maybe not giving the game credit for its moments of darkness. The burial fee sidequest in Edgewater for example. You have characters like the barber/surgeon Conrad and the cannery foreman Phyllis who profess the utmost loyalty to the system, but behind the scenes they're up to all sorts of grisly shenanigans to avoid suffering its worst consequences. And there's the totalitarian embrace of the "corporate family" concept, which made me think of what felipepepe said earlier about North Korea.

Is this trite stuff compared to New Vegas' story of nations & civilizations colliding and the march of history? Probably, but it's not the safe cuddly experience you'd expect after reading this thread either.

The main problem is that right after these situations you have the game do a lolsorandumb moment and it loses all impact.
It would be like if right after talking to Hanlon in FNV you turned around and there was a wild wasteland joke.

Infinitron give Junta a break. He needs maximize shitposting to bury that part of the thread where "stupid valley girls" tricked him into siding with sweet nice granny who defiles corpses.
Is it strange that I don't see anything wrong with using a corpse for fertilizer? It's definitely not something I'd do(I can just buy real fertilizer, plus contamination…), but it's not like they're being cannibals.
How different is it really from what happens naturally?

I don't understand what's dark about burial fees. Burial is very expensive irl, with monument and taking care of the grave in thousands dollars territory. This business is also often prone to criminal activity.
So in game these fees is basically insurance pay that cover your burial by corporation you work in. Considering you're a colonist on a dangerous planet, what's so immoral about it?
Yet when streamers see this, they're like OH GOD, THEY PAY FOR THEIR GRAVES??
yes, you do pay for your graves, your relatives anyway when you die.

I need spiritual guidance, is it ok to use a corpse for fertilizer?
We're talking about far away future which doesn't have religion in our sense. (and religion they do have states that body is just empty shell, i.e. what Vicar states)

This is basically Recycling Tanks from Alpha Centauri. And again, you're on a dangerous planet where nothing grows. Burning all bodies and using ash as fertilizer seems like it makes total sense in scientific future. Many already choose cremation irl because it is cheaper than standard burial.

Is it somewhat troubling? Yes, like the whole death and burial topic irl.

Is it troubling considering the far future/scientific utopia (or dystopia)?
Not much. Basically, Recycling Tanks from SMAC. We're in space where resources are scarce.

you would think this, but even the "official" discord for rpgcodex is filled with SJWs... I got banned for asking why there is a gay porn sharing section of the discord. (even if you argue there should be, to ban someone for asking about it is clear decline)

LOL, did streamers really get baffled by this? Someone should tell them that they will have to pay for their graves, this is how life works (unfortunately).

It's not something wrong, even Reed agrees it's quite genius. But that doesn't change the fact that the old lady is a massive cunt who tries to trick you to
murder a whole town of people for her the first time you met.
