Sawyer is the only one I've heard of, but that doesn't mean I will vote on him. Sorry, mon.

A brave statement, but one I agree with. Although I wouldn't say he's the most overrated, he's still massively overcredited for his contributions to gaming.
I'd say Ken Levine deserves a spot too, but I'm not sure if he fits the list considering you meant to post this on the weeb subforum. That also begs the question as to why you've decided to include Sawyer though.

Look at how slanted his eyes are. He obviously has Japanese ancestry.

All of them. All of their work can be contributed to their entire dev team and not just them.
That is why they fail so hard once they leave their original studios.

From all of those names, Kojima is the only one that's truly overrated.

All of them. All of their work can be contributed to their entire dev team and not just them.

Yeah, it's the team that does the programming, designs the assets, does the sound etc...
But if with weren't for these dudes the games wouldn't have been as good as they were, since it was because they were the ones that had the vision of what the game's should be.
Kinda like a movie from a good director wouldn't be the same with another director.

Yoko Taro is more overrated than Kojima.

Both are convoluted and pretentious storytellers, but MGS at least has fun gameplay systems.

Yoko Taro is barely famous though. Kojima on the other hand is know by everyone and often said to be the videogame equivalent of Stanley Kubrick.
And NieR Automata is also pretty fun (buit then again that's due to Platinum really).

I was looking for Molyneux's name to pop up, guy hasn't made anything decent since the 90's but still has star power somehow.

Even as a weeb I haven't heard of most of these guys. It's become very obvious over the years that game quality can be largely pinned to three things: dev team as a whole, iteration on a formula, and luck. I'd say the lead dev is maybe 10%. You can see it pretty clearly when a series loses it's original team and goes to shit, but that same team makes a spiritual sequel under a different company and it still holds up. OTOH, when someone gets bored of doing the same shit and decides to branch out it usually turns to shit.

Kojima, no doubt. I can't speak of devs like Miyamoto because I'm simply not into platformers. But Kojima? I don't understand how people can praise his glorified cinematic action games.

Warren Spector should be on the list.

Nah, he shouldn't be on any list of "legends". He's a hack and a liar.

If he was in the military, he's be jailed for "Stolen Valor" ie: His FAKE SHIT about being a "designer" on early Blue Sky/Looking Glass games. When actually he was just a slave driver suit for Electronic Arts at the time.

The guy is nothing but a blowhard riding on the fame and coattails of others.

Nomura is just a goddamned fashion designer helmosexual. He did nothing other than copy Berserk and jack off on zippers. Is Miura just like Todd McFarlane over in Nipland?

Either Kojima or Nomura. The others might decline in quality as they got older, but their fame are usually well-deserved. Kojima is the worse of the two though, his works simply appeal to American conspiracytards, and gaming community took that as Great Writing because they have shit taste. Boom, he's a celebrity now. The gameplay can be sometimes fun but the only one people remember is how Kojima invented Metal Gear's stealth because of tech limitations. Nomura, OTOH, is simply a crap character designer that became the face of FF character design because they appeal to females. And he isn't a celebrity enough to have people give a damn about his tweets, at least.

I thought Snatcher and Policenauts were both fun when they came out.

Agreed about Nomura.

I thought the proper etiquette on the Codex was to nominate someone like DW Bradley as completely overrated, highlighting that most of the sci fi / anthro / open world stuff in Wiz 6 - 8 had already done earlier and better by (one example) a female producer (Reiko Kodama) in Phantasy Star 1 & 2, whilst he pushed the boundaries on Furry fetish taste and then more recently sold out to the mobile app freemium mob?

I presumed then someone would followup by arguing it is EXACTLY these points that necessarily make him a Deserving Legend.

Or is that kind of stuff only supposed to happen on the main board?
