Balrum, an Indie open-world RPG by BalconyTeam has been releaased today and is available on Steam.

Hello everyone! Finally! Finally! Balrum is ready!

First of all, thank you for being patient and understanding.
Second of all, thank you to everyone over at Kickstarter for making Balrum a possibility. You guys were so kind and supportive we could not believe it.
We will support Balrum for years to come and enhance it as much as we can. 1.0 is just the beginning.

We hope that you will enjoy your time spent in the world of Balrum!
Thank you everyone!

Balrum is an old-school, hybrid turn-based, open world RPG with deep tactical combat. Explore a huge living fantasy world with dozens of side quests next to an epic main quest. Grow your own crops, build your home, and craft your own custom items.

Looks everything i want it to be.. From camera perspective, to stylistic depiction, to combat mode, to number of PCs available (one), to gameplay elements.
Which means i'm bound for a disappointment and life sucks, lol

Will as usual await for the obligatory patching frenzy and as such prolongue my despairing even further. Nothing more constructive than masochism i always say!
(if anyone tries it out, do post some comments please)

Weren't there some impressions about the game that basically sold it as not being any good?

yeah, true.. but they've added and changed and balanced and patched so much since that i cannot admit defeat be sure.. Plus, the comments were rather short, so while i respect other peoples' opinion, i do need more than 'it sucked' before i give in and try it myself. There, i said it.

So... you run around the world (and get into turn-based combat), find a pet, and then build your own home, grow food and pen in some livestock? Then explore some more....? What happens to your home?

Trigger warning! Trigger warning! All abort, all abort!

It used to be your pet (/shivers) was an 'option', a 'welcome addition' and blah blah, ie you'd be o.k. never using my pony that cheap neo-companion MMO shit. So i thought fine, as the rest sounded good..

I might not know shit from shinola but I've played about ten hours of this game since release... actually loving it. the crafting can be an interesting diversion while your mana refills, etc. there's a lot of depth to how you choose to build your char, and a lot of options w/r/t how you want to deal with supplies, shelter, bartering, combat... really digging it.

me in the early hours of the game: 'build my own home? yeah I'll do that when I'm spider food'
me five hours later: 'damn gotta make this stone pathway to my teleporter garden look tight as hell'

it's not planescape, but it's competent and at times pretty moody (a witch living in a well who referred to maggots as her "children" told me I "looked a little old, but would do" for her purposes)

the quests have been varied and fun: collecting rare supplies, investigating strange behavior, scaling a tower, finding lost chickens... I've also collected some items from a few "happenstance" quests that ran into me while exploring that haven't been explained yet

almost forgot, got a lovely poem from the village idiot's house titled "my deer meat" or something like that, an ode to a close friend. I smiled.

Anyone else reminded of the Eschalon games by the artstyle of this game?

Obviously the engine is far more advanced, but it's almost as if they shared an artist.

Edit: Apparently yes, I should stop reading threads backwards.
