According to a new post on Guido Henkel's blog:

As the development of Deathfire progresses, we have reached a junction in the development of the game where we would like to get direct feedback from the fans. We want to hear your opinions!

Since it has always been one of our foremost intentions to share as many aspects of the development with you, the fans, as possible, we feel that getting a feel for certain elements regarding the game from the fans is the logical next step.

This is your chance to make a difference… we are putting together a limited focus group to evaluate one of the most critical aspects of the game. It will be a very easy task for those participating, that will require no more than a handful of mouse clicks and a few minutes of their time.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the first Deathfire Focus Group, please fill out the form below and we will add you to our list of interested candidates. From all submissions, we will then select 25 participants at random to move ahead with.

Let's see how many Codexers we can get into this thing.

Wait... form? It looks like he was asking only for first name, last name and e-mail address. I was expecting a questionaire with a resume of role-playing game experience, possibly letters of reference.

Submitted, because, why the hell not. If I was part of this focus group, I would push toward the direction of staying true to the Realms of Arkania series, with a Wizardry-like interface.

o_O wtf

Why not check out what the majority want?
While a majority is still not optimal, it's still better than "lol, we troll u... we choose at random because we don't care"

"Focus group" is never a term I want to hear come from a developer. Also, he really needs to give this game a better name...

I can already imagine 25 Biodrones stumbling at this and requesting gay romances and awesome button.

The kind of people who like his games and frequent his blog are hardly Biodrones.

Why doesn't he just open a forum for the game?
... on the Codex!
We host relevant forums for a very reasonable price. He'd have to agree to our low moderation policy (he' be able to mod his own forums however he'd want though), and not expect special treatment from our front page coverage or anything like that... but yeah. It's an alternative for any crpg developer. And also, our admins would have to agree to it, which they may or may not do.

He would also have to put with lavish praise being heaped upon MCA, Fargo, and kickstarter.

at least until Wasteland 2 comes out and we all bitch about it :troll:

Definitely an odd move for him to make, but then I suppose that's par for the course given the odd path this game's development is traversing. At the very least it would've made more sense to spring something like this only after far more concrete details about the game have been revealed.

He should make another RoA. You don't need focus groups to know what's good... you need focus groups to know what IS NOT.

Best of luck to him though.

Poor Guido. He's so misguided and out of sync with the times. Quitting KS game when he didn't even try and then giving a butthurt reaction about it. And now this game. It's like he wants to stay obscure on purpose.

Realms of Arkania was what, almost 18 years ago? Has Guido even done anything noteworthy since? Does he even still know how to make a good rpg?

Eh, he worked on Planescape:Torment as producer and he did some work on Fallout 1 and 2 as well.

He's noteworthy for his new-found dementia. :(

Sort of looks like just a general association with Black Isle Studios, rather than Fallout, if my google-fu is to be trusted (and it certainly isn't).
