Is it really turn-based?
I thought it's real-time, and told him in the survey I don't like that.

Well, there have been a few bits of information giving a glimpse of what the game will be about.

You know, I didn't much care about not getting because I figured that the chances were low, but now that I'm seeing that almost everyone else got in...

I'm curious how many people responded to his initial request for emails.

In the beginning it sounded like he wanted to do it real-time, but then he said it will have "proper turn-based combat".

Oh, didn't know that, I've also said to him that real-time was a bad ideia... at least it will serve to make him sure about going turn-based. :)

This is from the interview at: http://www.thenerdcave.com/guido-henkel-interview/

“Deathfire” is a hardcore role-playing game that is heavily influenced by games of, what I call, the Golden Era of computer role-playing games.

Using modern day technology for the visual presentation, under the hood we’re building a game that is every bit as detailed and intricate as the “Realms of Arkania” games used to be

In addition to that we’re also bringing back true turn-based combat to the genre. The industry has largely abandoned turn-based combat in the last decade in favor for more action-oriented real time combat. However, we felt that in order to create a true role-playing experience that has the depth and flexibility, as well as the strategic elements, we were looking for, turn-based combat was the only feasible way to go.

The survey was just about the title.

All titles looked like they'd been taken from a generic RPG name simulator:
you know, like "realms of the netherruin of far-beyond", "ancient eldritch mysteries", "black thunder and dark fire" or "wonders of the old sunken world".

Anyway, not much to satiate my curiosity and nothing to really get irked either.

Fingers crossed. ;)

I thought the proposed titles were not really generic, but most of them would require getting used to - like Deathfire. After his explanation of what it is, Deathfire doesn't seem like such a bad name after all.

I hope you told him to get Mark Meer and Felicity Day to do the VO's of the characters, you know for immershun as no RPG is complete without full VO.

There are people who'll come up with several usable names in an afternoon - if you know what you want from the name. And I'm not quite sure he does know, the way he's been going about it :)

Except if he wants something stupid, in which case
From generic Death + <greek element> combinations of Deathfire, Deathwater, Deathearth and Deathair, I'd personally go with the last one since it just sounds more eclectic and less tryhard (since that's what I want from the game as well).

I don't see why a working title is necessary at this stage of pre-pre-pre-production. Usually studios call it something nondescript like van buren or project eternity

If Dilbert has taught me anything, you start with the name then the design the product from that point forward.

I got the impression from one of the questions in the survey that the setting and basic story is in place.

What's in a name?

New email from "G3 Studios":

Hello,

I wanted to take a moment again real quick to thank you in person for participating in the "Deathfire" survey last week. It was very exciting for us to hear all the various opinions and see how you felt about the different names and suggestions we had in mind. Many of the responses were surprising and many were very much enforcing our own feelings on the subject. We are currently analyzing the results and I will have a blog post soon that will discuss the survey and some of the feedback we received from you.

Since we have made our final decisions at this time, we feel it is no longer necessary to shroud the contents of the survey in secrecy so please feel free to discuss the contents of the survey on your favorite message boards, your blogs or your social networks.

As a small token of my gratitude for taking the time to participate in the survey, and for the many honest responses we received, enclosed to this email, please find an eBook copy of the "Jason Dark: Ghost Hunter Collection." I hope you will enjoy these little stories as much as I had writing them, purely for wicked fun. I am enclosing the Kindle version of the book but if you need a different format, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you once again for your help and your support. Please continue to help us spread the word about the game and feel free to contact me at any time if you have thoughts, suggestions or comments about the game.

I hope we can do this again some time,
Guido Henkel

Okay, so my favorite name was "Realms of the Beyond", partly because it is simlar to Realms of Arkania.

Some of the other names were: Nethermore, Endergast (biggest city in the game), Ruins of Nethermore (I think)... That's about all I can remember.

I think the game is very much influenced by this Jason Dark Ghost Hunter thing, since a big focus is on the "Beyond" where spells like Deathfire are from.

Ah, then that is some helpful information to know. I'll take a glance at the stories. Was wondering if any one else had thoughts on the quality of writing.
