After 5 years of No Games, Sony leaks they'll announce PS5 Pro on September 10th (edit: Revealed. $700 and no disc drive. Come laugh at it.)

In addition to the Horizon Remaster and Lego Horizons, Horizon Online is in the works too!. This has to be the biggest franchise since Call of Duty!.

"PS5 Pro has a function called "Game Boost". Even if it is not a PS5 Pro compatible version, if the game uses a variable refresh rate or variable resolution, it will be able to be displayed more stably even if it is set to a high setting. However, in the case of games that are fixed at 30 FPS, it cannot be supported unless it is unlocked."

Consoles were good when you just had to buy one every generation, but if they're gonna expect me to buy 2 or more plus controllers that break all the time and all the exclusive games are made by an overweight woman + male feminist combo then even I will wash my hands of these imbeciles and buy a pc instead.

Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

Consoles were good when they were much cheaper than PCs. In the late 90s a decent computer was 10000fr, around 1500€ (or probably well over 2500 with inflation).
A PS1 was 2100fr at launch, and just worked compared to a win98 workstation which was not exactly the most stable or user-friendly thing around.

Now my end-end computer is cheaper and faster. The PlayStation model makes no sense anymore.

Wellllll the ps5 works better and smoother than a $700 pc would, I'm sure of that, but if we factor in now the 4 controllers I've had to buy at $90 each and upgrading to the new model, we have $1700 plus 13% tax gives me a total budget of $1988.80. I'm thinking that would make a decent pc computer for my rpg games.

All this discussion about PS5 / Pro pricing conveniently skips one aspect of PC gaming:

2016 - GTX 1080 - $599
2018 - RTX 2080 - $699
2020 - RTX 3080 - $699
2022 - RTX 4080 - $1200

If you're angry at Sony, you should be angry at Nvidia as well. $700 card (RTX 3080 in my case) is not enough to play the most demanding games nowadays in Full HD (e.g. Wukong).

Don't play games made by people who think that upscaling garbage is a substitute for optimization, problem solved.

I am stuck on the PlayStation platform because I have made plenty of digital purchases. However, I don’t think I will buy their consoles after this generation. Everything eventually comes to PC. There is no point in buying the “pro” consoles, and their controllers are terrible.

I still give them credit for having good niche games. “Fist of the North Star” is a Yakuza clone that is still exclusive. The same goes for Vanillaware games (like Dragon’s Crown) and niche Japanese SHMUPs.

Yeah, but that's also the time when computer games were far more sophisticated and complex than console games.

One of the (retarded) original selling points of the Xbox One was that MS also runs Azure and that developers could offload computing to the cloud. You could simulate the entire game world at all times, and not just the immediate vicinity of the player! NPCs could have rich, fleshed out schedules and routines even when the player isn’t around to see it! The game world could evolve even when the system was off!…

…but it never happened, because nobody wanted to program it (not even MS). Honestly, local generative AI is probably the only chance we have for more complicated NPCs, because it removes the unwilling developer from the process entirely.
Unwilling developers ?

Speed of light is a hard limit. 1 Ghz = 1 nanosecond = 1 foot in ideal conditions.

Most people do not live next to server farm that hosts Azure in their region, so NPCs would act like lag switchers or players from Australia connecting to European servers.

I remember reporting on the Stadia demos mentioned the problems with lag even when they literally were next to the server farm.

Luckily ps5 pro will not have this.
For a extra 19.99 per month probably.
One more reason to just abandon consoles and focus on PC instead.
Seriously, those console peasants just consume whatever console slop is thrown their way.
Some eventually wise up though, and go for PCs.
