I'm curious about something that was mentioned in the first video. Cities (or some cities) seem to be connected. If one of them is destroyed, the other will also be destroyed. I assume (and hope) not all cities will function this way, and if not, what are the requirements for a city to 'behave' this way?

Tomipapa, do you happen to know anything about this?

You mean when he captured Logano at 17:40? Sorry, i have no idea it might was a bug but i ask this question on the official forum .

Thanks.
No, not Logano. She talks about it around 2:30 in the video (in German) and calls them 'mirror cities'.

Heh, those human female portraits in the first two screens are awful.

Some new info about how leaders/heroes get spells:

"
Leaders gain spells through Research only. Heroes can acquire spells through experience. Spells are never shared. The main advantage is that a Leader can have unique heroes that all retain their own unique class spells!

This difference between level-up of leaders and heroes is basically Leaders having a slight advantage as they don’t have to spend their experience points on spells and can focus on personal upgrades, stat upgrades or stack upgrade skills exclusively."

And according to the german PC Games(the one who did that 27 min let's play) and the german Amazon the release date is 18 March 2014. The price at Amazon.de is 39.99 Euro, but the devs said the price is vary per territory. Imo the Usa price will be between 40 and 50 dollar.

About the AI:

"At the moment we’re putting a lot of effort in improving the strategic AI much more than we did for previous games. But please don’t underestimate how much time it takes to write a good AI for a game like AoW with all the different units/skills/spell in there. Often the AI code required to support a feature takes much more time than the feature itself..

All I can say for now is that the AI will definitely be more aggressive and challenging than it was in AoW:SM."

A new screen with the portraits of some premade heroes, for example (queen)Julia of House Inioch

Man I am stoked for this. I don't get the harping on the aesthetics. Pretty much gotta roll with 3D nowadays and I think this game's presentation is a lot better than its contemporary peers.

For me the measure of game success will depend only on possability of creating a Necromancer or at least undead army. Devs promised option to slaughter a settlement population so I have high hopes.

The Necromancer is at the top for a dlc/expansion. As for the unded army the Archon Revenants are undeads , but besides them and the bone dragon i don't have any info about other undead units.

I really enjoy the fact that towns look so much like they did in AoW 1, except in 3D. Actually Triumph's games have always been eye candy to me, but this time they may outdo themselves

It does say "preliminary cover" in the bottom right corner. I must say I'm not a big fan of this front dude, the face looks almost pained. Otherwise the composition and detail are perfect

Here is the final version, the goblin was replaced with a dwarf.

The Characters:

  • Dwemus, A Dwarf Theocrat. A jolly Dwarf Priest appearing in the story. He’s got a grudge against the Commonwealth
  • Sundren, High Elf Rogue. Daughter of Julia and King Saridas. Protagonist of the Elven Court Campaign
  • Edward, Human Dreadnaught. Protagonist of the Commonwealth Campaign.
  • Reshkar, Draconian who you’ll help find a new homeland in the the Elven Court Campaign
  • Saridas, former Dark Elf, appearing in both EC and CW campaigns

I'd preffer if it would be more of a "spiritual sequel" than a game too tightly connected to previous games.

Large scale strategy games were always self contained, which is reason why CIV IV, or UFO:ET doesn't work as a sequel. Civ was always from the beginning. And UFO:ET would work better if it wouldn't play on anything and simply did a earth invasion by aliens.

How's the campaign gonna be, did they say more? I remember it was going to be more instyle of AOW1 campaign, with multiple scenario choices and multiple endings and whatnot. Are we going to pick/make one character and then go forth through the entire campaign slowly levelling him up, get one char which we constantly changes through the campaign (AOW2, where you swap spheres every three scenarios) or we're going to pick multiple characters with small campaigns, like in Shadow Magic?

I'm thinking here Sundren/Edwards are the new campaign's equivalents to Elric/Talic or are we going to play with a single, but somewhat modifiable character?

Saridas, former Dark Elf, appearing in both EC and CW campaigns

Does he at least retain the dark elf look? Dark Elves look cool.

Also, Julia in the pre-made character screen! Wonder what happened with Merlin. Am I the only one who wants to fight a Death1-style one-on-one with the master of the Wizard's Throne?

Age of Wonders 2 was set on Evermore, which is a completely different place from the mainland of AoW 1. I'd say good riddance because I hated everything about AoW 2 except its multiplayer/some fundamental mechanics, but Merlin showed up in the reveal trailer as a narrator, so who knows, maybe he's around.

Never really cared about the story/lore of the AoW games, for me they were all about building shit and conquering shit.
