So I made a new install that simplified things a lot compared to what I tried last year. I'm playing on a toaster, so installing a whole bunch of graphics stuff is pretty pointless. I use MGE XE to get 3x distant land, and otherwise follow the settings from Sigourn's modding guide, just not the shaders and other shit. Sigourn's settings are supposed to keep the foggy aesthetic of the game, and this seems to work well from what I can see. With these settings, I also no longer seem to have the problem of objects still popping up in the far distance. Plus I got Patch for Purists and some other fixes. But no textures, no bodies, heads, faces, trees, grass, fucking improved mudcrabs or keg stands or whatever, none of that kind of faggotry.
From this OP I've installed:
- Publicans
- LDM - Context Matters
- ROHT (+ UL + LGNPC Tel Uvirith + Building Up Uvirith's Legacy)
- Expansion Delay
- What Thieves Guild
- Great Service
- Blades Informant
- Religions Elaborated (I wanted to make Temple and Imperial Cult mutually exclusive, but I didn't like all the exclusions of More Exclusive Factions)
- Hospitality Papers Expanded
- RP House Hlaalu
- Greetings for No Lore
Besides this and some other small fixes and changes, I got Tamriel Rebuilt. I also got the old mods by abot that allow you to actually watch the silt striders, ships and gondolas, which I've never tried before for some reason. It's pretty nice to see, but the ships/striders change directions rather abruptly. I doubt I'll be using this a lot, actually, but it's nice to have the option.
I have been a bit hesitant in recent years with LGNPC or any other mods that add huge amounts of dialogue, although I appreciate the ideas behind them. Although I have the RP Hlaalu mod, I think I will join Telvanni to check out the updated ROHT.
Some questions for OP or anyone else who might have suggestions about this:
- Are there any recent, recommendable mods that add some kind of NPC schedules or changes like closing shop during the night, so you can't just loot their attic/basement because they're in the same place all the time? I remember Living Cities of Vvardenfell way back in the day, although I eventually didn't include it in later builds, because it also made some NPCs difficult to find. I don't much need to have some "radiant" bullshit but it would make for an interesting change of pace, also because of the aforementioned ease of burglary.
-
Economy Adjuster Adjustments: I've downloaded this, but not sure whether to install. I understand this is an edit of HotFusion's Economy Adjuster? If I understand correctly, this just makes it harder to make money from trading, and it changes crime and punishment? Or does it also affect service requirements (more refusals if you're not a high-ranking member) for guilds?
- If not, what mods currently change faction requirements (both making it harder to join, and to get services) in a way that makes it harder, but still being balanced, not going too overboard with exclusions and such?
Setting the game up like this takes about half a day, which is not bad, and I can easily go off and have some fun with the game itself. I mentioned this before, but TR and ROHT by themselves are already better and more expansive than the official Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, which is crazy by itself.
