Any single-player RPG where I can build my char around DoT (damage over time) spells/skills?

I'm just curious, because I played lots and lots of RPGs but can only remember DoT builds being viable in MMOs, notably WoW: Affliction Warlock and EverQuest Necromancer. I can only remember DoT being "viable" in a single player game, in Diablo 2's "poisonmancer," in Two Worlds 1, Morrowind/Oblivion with custom spells, and that is it. But nothing quite like EQ necro/WoW affliction warlock.

So, anyone knows more games where I can have an experience similar to Wow Affliction Warlock? Preferentially with a succubus servant.

streets of rogue where you can focus on putting poisons into vents

skyrim requiem got plenty of dot options. So does morrowind when you add poisoning with mod.

in colonoscopy ship i spent half of combats standing inside poison cloud. That was very successful all hybrid run.

you could try dots in underrail with poisons, acid and setting enemies on fire. Poisons are great but many strong enemies are immune.

you can actually by dot 1337 hax0r in cp77. And its strong, or at least used to be

dos2 <- you can just put everything on fire and exploding poisons while you are immune in the middle

You'll never find anything as cool as EverQuest's Necro. There is a janky indie mmo you can play offline which I like.

Technically one of the characters in King Arthur: Legion IX can be build like this but the problem is DoT builds kinda suck in that game. I feel your pain because I also greatly enjoy that playstyle but it seems hard to find outside of MMO's.

Erannorth games have plenty of classes and specializations with a focus on stacking DoTs like burning or poison, inlcuding the latest Erannorth Renaissance that is still in early access.

There is also this cute game that just came out recently.

DoT spells is one of the specializations that you can choose.

In games with high TTK, DoTs are king. Honestly, in EverQuest I enjoyed playing as a necromancer but didn't enjoyed much Wizard. Transforming enemy blood into fire, using darkness to snare them, fearing them and slowly making him bleed and die is somehow satisfying. In WoW - WoTLK, playing in PvP servers, using unstable affliction, corruption, decay and killing a PKer after he kills you is satisfying.

Sadly IDK any SP RPG with a similar gameplay.

That's basically why I have haunted this forum for all these years.

And did you found any good recommendation? Not counting mmos like Monsters & Memories?

Well Voodoo man in Diablo 3 had a dot and debuff build with pets, that was quite fun and most similar to your request. Unfortunatly D3 in general wasn't all that fun, and it wasn't as fun as Necro in D2 at any rate.

Nope, I wish. There are some cool little games like Erranorth mentioned above, but I was spoilt to hell playing EQ back in the day. I played a Necro and did amazing things. I still think about it. The WoW Warlock and some other MMOs are similar. I love them all. I love that kind of gameplay. I wish single player RPGs were more inspired by their big MMO brothers.

EQ's Druid was great for DoTs too. In PVP in the level 20s a Druid could just 1 shot you with a DoT and then run away. They had a few dots that could stack and they were powerful, and their root and snare is really strong. But I think quad kiting turned out to be best for them soloing. And in groups dots were too slow. Shaman also had a few powerful dots, but they had to land a slow first which was more important. And sometimes a cripple. And they had to help wtih healing so dots were down the list. Necro gets to just go all in. Lifetap over time, heat blood, asystole or whatever magic based dot which saps their strength, plague or some disease based dot, and then there's stuff like venom of the snake you could have too. But if you stack all together the damage was insane and you steal aggro. Soloing you could do that then kite it :D Splurt was amazing too. Starts off doing low damage over time but after about 2 minutes it does about 500 damage a pop and about 4 pops. So a good 2000 is damage if you can time it right.

There was a time when you could see each dot ticking away in the combat log. And also each tick of each dot could score a critical hit. So 4 dots ticking away for 500 ish each, and a few of the ticks crit, it would be like 3000 damage every few seconds. We need an RPG revolution.

There is Vanguard: Saga of Heroes which was like a spiritual sequel to EQ. The Necromancer is similar, improved pet. You can find parts on creatures and graft them onto your pet to make it stronger. The game had issues though and shut down. So you can only play now on an emulator which is still trying to rebuild it. A lot of content still missing. But it's getting better, I played it and had fun. In many ways it is better than EverQuest but in some ways it is worse.

The little MMO I play offline is called Minions of Mirth. It might be hard to get these days. It's also pretty janky, floaty controls, not as nice as EQ or WoW. But it's still a decent MMO that you can play offline and it runs on my little laptop. I'm not sure about DoT builds but there are a lot of classes and you can multiclass and play a whole party yourself. So it can get pretty deep. It has about a month of content.

There was a game like that once, It was pretty good, where a poison build was fully viable. It was called Dark Souls II. All these moments when my impeccable Dark Chaos Blade +5 & full Havel (except for Smelter Demon Helm) build lost to a novelty Channeler's Trident poison build* are now lost... like tears in the... rain...

* - (this happened literally just one time but I'm still butthurt about it almost 10 years later)

They definitely exist.
Granted, vast majority of examples i can currently think of are these auto battler roguelikes you can find on steam.

Tales of MajEyal has DoT builds. It's only a little indie game though, but good.
There is this Rogue posion knife thrower build and i remember having a very similar experience of killing an elite mob by placing bunch of DoTs and running away as Cultist of Entropy.

As for other games with dedicated DoT characters...
There is Path of Achra there you can build your character around applying million stacks of cold, sickness and whatnot. But everything dies so quickly(especially if you're doing things right) i doubt this is what Cryomancer looking for.
Crystal Project has Shaman as a dedicated DoT class, if one is not allergic to JRPGs or incredibly infuriating amount of platforming.
Soldak games, assassin spec from Din's Curse/Legacy and Zombasite definitely fits the criteria. Drox Operative games also have some DoT weapons, i think?
Chronicon might also count, probably.

There is also this dungeon crawler i can bet none of you have heard of.

Made on RPGMaker as you can see, plenty of small annoyances concerning UI, bugs, unclear information and stuff.
But i found classes you can pick are pretty interesting and some of them can definitely be made into DoT specialists. Like Ship Surgeon can be built into a DoT class, healer or a "disabler"(someone who can cut "leg","torso" or "head" which prevents enemies from using attacks associated with these body parts, also grants extra loot after battle).

I'm aware but as you have noticed yourself few games offer what you seek. I know because I'm looking for the same. But a new indie Jrpg, The Nameless: Slay Dragon has one out of 4 party members who is kinda like that but the caveat is that she only becomes such late in the game as an extra class. So you won't have that experience for 2/3's of the game for one and secondly there is a bunch of other stuff that makes me lukewarm on the game. Granted when she does come online she DoT's and debuffs like no other but for most of the game you won't see it.

If you're into roguelikes ToME has some classes that can build around DoT abilities, I'm pretty sure. Necromancer in particular to fit the theme (no succubus I'm afraid) but there's oozemancer and I think some other options too.

Assuming you actually meant single player and not single character, Monster Sanctuary has a huge variety of ways to build an effective team. Spamming dots and other debuffs is definitely a viable option, it's basically how I played most of the game. There's a monster that's kinda like a succubus but it's a fox demon and shows up very late in the game.

Crystal Project can do teams built around DoTs as well, though there are a few bosses that make them pretty ineffective iirc.

Across the Obelisk would be a perfect candidate but you said you don't like cards. DoTs in the game get incredibly silly.

Part of the problem is that an MMO character is inherently going to play quite differently than a single player game's characters, especially from that era. I can't think of any games that let you click on enemies, cast spells that automatically hit them then kite them around in real time, aside from other MMOs. Diablo clones are about as close as you can get. You can throw Last Epoch on that pile; plenty of DoT based builds there, including a necromancer.
