Any single-player RPG where I can build my char around DoT (damage over time) spells/skills?

nigga, you literally set fucking wow as standard.

Yep. WoW went too far in Barbie dressing, mainly after vanilla. But their implementation of affliction warlock is great/

Re downloaded Rift. A generic wow clone. Am loving Warlock/Necromancer build. I can throw a couple of DoTs and go to next mob waiting it to die. Very satisfying.

Any SP RPG with similar playstyle?

A fun build in Diablo 2 is a Throw Barbarian with lots of Poison damage combined with "Hit Causes Monsters to Flee 100% of the time". Monster Flee (and Knockback) is usually an annoying ability in D2, but with Poison it's fun.

I loved Rift, but when it had people, I liked the dungeons the most. And questing solo was ok. I also played on a PVP server which was good, and there are pvp modes too. So I enjoyed the variety. I think I did everything in a month though, apart from raid content. The high levels are a bit thrown together in parts :/

And yeah I wish single player games had similar combat.

Multiboxing is something that I personally don't like. I wanna control my char, not be constantly alt + tabbing.

I would recommend Outward. It has bleed and poison both with an extreme version. And a shit ton of status effects as well as armour that can increase your damage with certain damage sources.

I always thought that too, until I tried it, then I became hooked. But it varies a lot. I played an EQ server which had a 2 character rule, so I became hooked on playing Necro and then switching to my Druid for teleports and buffs and heals and extra damage. I also tried playing as a Tank + Healer which was even more powerful. Then I played on a server with no limits and I tried boxing a full group of 6. It was too much hard work. I enjoyed having a full group. It was like Baldurs Gate or something, I controlled the whole party. And I enjoyed finding gear for my tank as well as the casters and healer. I used some goofy software that actually worked and let me put each game in a virtual desktop so I could go to any character with a button press. And I could bind them to my mouse.

Then I found MacroQuest which is amazing. If you played Dragon Age it is like the tactics for your party. So you don't have to alt tab anymore, you just set up rules for each character and they fight automatically. I really love that. I used that to go through all the dungeons and raid content in the game, all the stuff I wanted to see. And I loved playing it by myself, I could go afk whenever I wanted, take as long as I wanted. It was a lot of work to setup the automation though, but I enjoyed the process, fine tuning.

For Rift you can't do that, but I still did a whole group using Isboxer. I did most of it just using Autohotkey with a popular multiboxing macro for World of Warcraft you can find online. I tweaked that and it let me play Rift. But I also tried it with Isboxer which is even better. Basically you just play your 1 main character, and everything you do and press, gets broadcast to the other characters. So in Rift you can run a full group of 5. And you just setup the number keys to fire their important stuff. Then when you do 1234 it broadcasts to all of the characters and they all kick stuffs ass. I liked doing the dungeons in Rift so it was worth it, fun little adventure. But now in the late 40s it becomes a grind so I gave up.

And I play Vanguard sometimes and I use Isboxer for that too and do the same thing. All this is not for everyone but it can add another dimension if you get into it. And it can let you see more of these old games that have no players :P
